Adric's father was exempt from this due to the fact he was an only child and was nearly in the same boat until his younger daughter was born from a royal consort. This is also why Adric keeps his mother's maiden name and not the royal house name of his family. Adric knows that he is no leader and is terrified of what will happen if he has to do to some unforeseen circumstances

Personality:
Adric is thoughtful, soft spoken and slow to offer his opinion on things. Having grown up in a country that values secrecy, intelligence and cunning he is quite adept at playing the political games, he just hates doing it. He'd much rather be wandering on his own, enjoying a good book or intelligent company. He loves music and often plays the violin, having taken to it as a young child. Adric tends to be a bit on the rebellious side when it comes to doing what his parents tell him, shirking his royal duties whenever given the chance and instead studying things that actually held interest for him. Although he is by nature very quiet he will not hesitate to speak up for himself, his family or his country. It's not that he's afraid to speak up, he just thinks it's prudent to wait to speak until you have something of substance to say. So many people talked and all of their words meant nothing, nothing exasperated Adric more.

History:
Adric is the oldest of the two royal children of Casta Luna, with his sister following closely behind. He wasn't particularly doted upon by his parents but was well-educated and well cared for. A quiet, pensive child he was fond of reading, playing pretend and often getting lost in the vast Casta Luna countryside. Something which frightened and angered his parents every time they had to send out a retinue of guards to find the young prince who occasionally took along his little sister, the heir, on these adventures. The young prince often said that to know one's country one had to explore it. To which his father said he had no idea what he was talking about

As he came of age the young prince became rather charming and seductive, combined with his quiet, dark good looks the effeminate prince was seen as quite the prize. Hearing of his many exploits his parents, slightly shocked, were more than glad to send Adric to the Capitol. He'd be able to put his charms to good use and perhaps unite their countries in a marriage alliance. Hopefully to save them the disgrace he would bring upon them due to any "indiscretions".
