Rayne Livith

a character in “The Hunt Begins”, originally authored by EKRonnie, as played by RolePlayGateway

Description

Character Sheet:

HUNTERS

Full Name: Rayne Livith

Age: 20+ 21 1/2

Nickname: Shortie (even though barely younger/shorter)

Gender: Female

Height: 5' 4 1/2"

Weight: 130

Weapons: Silver pistol with bone handle, silver tipped stake (slender and fits in boot), two knives (one forearm long machete and a small gravity dagger)

Partner:Her cousin, Georgina.

Appearance: Rayne's dark nearly black eyes are framed by long chocolate locks when she is not hunting, but on the job she wears her hair back in braids or long pigtails. She is toned and muscled where needed, working out being part of her routine when not working. She wears jeans along with black steel toed boots with tank tops mostly, though she wears flannel shirts over these, the ones that had belonged to her father and brother. She also wears a necklace that used to be her mother's, a tiny golden cross with a heart in its center.

Personality: Rayne tends to keep to herself, participating in conversation and jokes with her cousin only for the most part. After seeing her family slaughtered during a time of reunion, she has been scarred and carries herself as such. She is not afraid to be told her is wrong, knowledge being dear to her in this new world of monsters and demons. More comfortable with ending evil than comforting those victims it affects, she is socially awkward and distant, spouting words without thinking at times, her brutal honesty odd and somewhat unsettling.

History: Rayne woke to find her family murdered in their sleep, except for her cousin Georgina, during a family reunion at the Livith farm one summer before her fourteenth birthday. Tracking their grandfather down, Rayne watched as her cousin ended the man turned werewolf that had been so close to them both. While Georgina dealt with the mental scars from the action moments later, Rayne robotically set out to hide the body, not shedding a tear for weeks.

It wasn't until she had returned to her family's home to find it completely empty and void of life, except for the kitten they had adopted two weeks before, that she broke down, sobbing in the doorway and curling herself on the couch with the kitten for three days. Then she packed and found the keys to her brother's old red jeep as a mode of transportation until she traded it in for a truck, better mileage being her motivation since income was barely anything being under the custody of her Aunt and being 14 and unemployable.

At 16, she and Georgina, after researching day in and day out, and fearing the world around them, took off into the night without looking back, all of their belongings in the backseat with the black cat Domino and the road ahead of them.

Rayne Livith

"Reow!"

"Hush," Rayne whispered to the cat sneaking onto her lap as she drove. Domino was always cooped up in this stupid truck and he made sure the girls knew of his annoyances, day in and day out, with his odd bark like meows. Softly petting his ear, Rayne returned her dark eyes to the road, the twilight of dawn approaching.

Beside her, Georgina slept in the passenger seat. They were heading nowhere at the moment, just roaming around, scrounging up any work or money they could get their hands on. Rayne disliked being between "jobs." Any chance she saw for a Hunt, she would take it. And Georgie knew it. For almost a week now, she had hidden newspapers from her cousin, not even allowing Rayne to watch the news.

"We need a break. Just a few days," was her explanation.

Rayne rolled her eyes at the memory, stroking Domino's head until he began to purr a vibration across her thighs.

An hour later, Rayne parked outside a hotel motel. She got a room and two keys before rapping her knuckles against the glass of the window Georgina's head was against as she slept. Her cousin jumped and Rayne smiled a little. She held up the keys for her cousin to see, then pointed to Domino in the front seat to indicate that she needed to bring him inside as well.

Rayne unlocked the door and propped it open for her cousin. Two twin beds. Rayne nearly collapsed into the first one immediately, the long drive tiring her limbs. But she instead decided to help unpack some food, change clothes and make sure Domino was all comfortable. He was dead asleep on a pillow within minutes, the brat.

"I'll be back," she said before leaving the room and pocketing her room key.

She needed a walk in the fresh air, which ended being a stroll to a park then a nice long sit on a bench. Gripping the bottom edge beneath her and staring to the pavement, she inhaled a bit, smelling the small traces of her brother's deodorant on the blue flannel shirt she wore. His original scent was long gone during the past eight years, but sometimes Rayne bought the same brand he used, just for the memories. Now she was recalling their camping trips together in the mountains in Colorado. Cold nights, good fishing, hikes and views that were unbelievable...she sniffed. She never cried, not since that day eight years ago after her family was slaughtered. She would sniff, feel the burn under her eyes and then bite her tongue. It was routine and once completed, she felt relaxed enough to return to the room to pass out.

The sudden tapping sound on her window startled Georige out of her sleep, forcing her to scream banana loudly. She could hear her cousin Rayne laughing as showed Georgie two hotel room keys. Pushing open her door, pushing Rayne out of the way, Georgie climbed out, enjoying the ability to stretch out of her cramped position.

She stretched her arms above her head, feeling her bones pop and crack. She only ever managed to get a good nights sleep while riding in the jeep. The constant hum and the blasting music from the old stereo were a constant lullaby. Helping keeping her mind off of things. However, the idea of sleeping in a bed was a wonderful thought.

Following Rayne into the room, Georige found that their cat Domino was already fast asleep on one of the pillows. For a cat that lived on the road, he sure was spoiled rotten. Kicking off her boots and peeling off her camo jacket, she immediately made her way to the bathroom, in desperate need of a shower.

She knew Rayne would go walking, letting her legs stretch out before finally being able to fall asleep. Georgie usually need a nice hot shower to help her limbs loosen up. So, ten minutes later, Georgie found herself sitting naked in the tub letting the shower head spew out hot water over her body.

Her head pressed against the back wall, the cool of the wall and the heat of the water providing a glorious mix. She breathed in the steam, letting her mind clear. They were in between jobs, which was always frustrating. But they needed the time off. Their last job had left them with many cuts and bruises. Georgie even needed stitches.

Checking the small black threads, Georgie sighed. Another scar to add to the bunch.

She finally climbed out of the shower, changing into an old t-shirt and shorts. She didn't bother brushing her hair, too tired to really care if her brown locks were in proper place. Domino was still slumbering quietly on Rayne's bed, his small body moving up and down with his breaths.

Collapsing onto the bed, Georgie didn't bother to cover herself with the blanket. She was asleep the moment her head hit the pillow.

"So, what happens now? We go our separate ways? You slit my throat? I wouldn't recommend killing me, though. Getting a dead body out of a hotel unnoticed? Not easy. I speak from experience."

Rayne skidded where she walked, hearing the words coming out muted from inside one of the other hotel rooms. She turned her dark eyes upon the door, stunned and intrigued. Pausing, she listened more to the conversation. A harsh one anyway. No one seemed to want to answer some sort of questions or something along those lines. Rayne's curiosity got the best of her and she stepped beside the door, listening carefully.

Whether it was her addiction to the hunt or her natural curiosity that had driven her into trouble all her life, it was hard to say. She shook out of her thoughts, trying to focus on the voices and figure out who they were and if someone, the one who was talking about slitting throats, was in trouble.

Hand wrapped around the hilt of her gravity knife, she waited and listened, silent as a cat and ears perked up fully.

Georgie turned over for the umpteenth time, unable to fall asleep. The walls might as well have been made of paper, she could hear everything coming from the room next door. Domino had crawled over to her bed, wanting to snuggle with. But after the fifth time of disturbing him with her tossing, he angrily climbed back to Rayne's bed.

Which was still empty. Georgie was a little concerned for her cousin. Granted she knew what to do if anything attacked, but Georgie couldn't keep her thoughts from straying to the worst possible situation. Sitting up, she kicked the blanket off of her bare legs and grabbed her boots from the floor.

She slipped the on, not bothering with socks and slipped on her camo jacket. She had done this many times. Gone wondering outside with nothing but her torn shorts, her boots, and camo jacket. She had often gotten some off looks, but she didn't really care. Most of the time everyone was asleep when she went out looking for her cousin, so it's not like it mattered.

She had her hand wrapped around the doorknob when she heard something interesting come from the room next door. Something about slitting someone's throat. Moving a dead body. Fear gripped her stomach, but Georgie's face remained stoic. She grabbed one of the knife's from her pack and slipped it into her boot. She wasn't going to take any chances, but she didn't want to burst into a hotel room with a knife and find that there was nothing wrong.

Stepping outside, she spotted Rayne a few feet away, eavesdropping on the conversation next door. She had heard it too.

"Hey," Georgie said causing Rayne to jump. "Did you hear what I think you heard?"

April opened her mouth to add yet another comment about the situation, when she heard voices outside the door. She couldn't make out words, just mumbles here and there. She didn't give anybody a second glance and walked over to open the door, but stopped once her hand was on the handle. They weren't demons. If they were, they would have just waltzed in. Finally, she just closed her eyes and sighed, before opening the door.

"Oh, hello. Care to join the party?" She said, smiling warmly. She didn't give them a chance to answer and nearly pulled them inside, closing the door behind them. "Now you can't kill me. We have witnesses." She said to Azazel, with a joking laugh and a grin even though she was dead serious. She looked her guests over once. Nothing remotely obvious about them being supernatural. She would have to test that theory later.

"So, who's up for some bonding, eh?"

Gerogie spoke with Rayne quietly, asking what exactly her cousin had heard. She had basically heard the same things Georgie had. Slitting throats, hiding dead bodies. It definitely didn't sound like a good time.

"So, what's our plan of action?" Georgie asked bending down to grab the knife from her boot. They were interrupted, however, by someone pulling open the hotel room door. They said something, but Georgie couldn't make it out, as she was being pulled into the room.

There were two other people there, both staring at them with confused expressions. Now, she was regretting not putting on jeans. It's hard to be taken seriously while wearing the ensemble she was. Abandoning her attempt at getting her knife, Georgie stood straight.

"So, who's up for some bonding, eh?"

The person who had pulled them into the room spoke. She was a young woman with wavy blonde hair. She didn't look too happy either. "I'm blaming you for this," Georgie whispered to Rayne.

Her green eyes scanned the people in the room. Two women and a man. They all looked relatively human, but Georgie never trusted that instinct. She had come across too many people who "looked" human that had later tried to kill her.

"As I recall you're the only one talking about death. I have never had any intentions of killing you and now you've brought two innocent people into this. Do you think before you act?" April gave him a glare as she walked past him. He wasn't catching on. She sat with legs crossed on the bed, oblivious to the fact she had changed positions many times. She really couldn't stay still. Looking up, she realized Azazel was simply talking about the girls leaving. For some reason, she didn't want them to. Time to put her acting skills to use.

The blonde locked eyes with one of their visitors, and then tried to open her eyes wider with fear. She gave a quick glance to her own gun on the dresser and then back at the girl, who seemed to be piecing things together in her mind. She then gave a nod of her head to Azazel. Frame him as the killer. He wasn't going to like that. Looking down at the ground, she let her hair shade her face and gave a small smile. The pair was going to be mad at her, not let her join them like she needed to. Oh well. There was always time to be polite later.

Rayne was eyeing a claw attached to the male of the group. Not normal, to say the least, but having faced worse, she was calm. Locking eyes with the man, she squinted, trying to figure out what was going on.

The blonde caught her eye. She was gesturing to a gun and then the man, seeming frightened for her life. Was she the kidnapped victim in this whole thing? Rayne zeroed in on the claw again. Why would he need a gun if he could just slash at her throat?

"I do have a question," she said in response to the man's words. "Is this place a Hunter magnet or what? Cuz...we all seemed to have chosen the same exact place. Bit strange, don't you think?"

Crossing her arms with a smirk, she waited to see if her observations had proven correct.

Georgie eyed the man, more so the claw. He was definitely not human. Or he was, and just ran into a serious amount of bad luck. She eyed Rayne, who also seemed to put two and two together. Something was definitely fishy here.

Her thoughts were proven right when the blonde who had originally pulled them in, was now sitting on top of the bed, looking absolutely terrified. That terror was nowhere on her face when she dragged Georgie and her cousin inside. She actually looked as if she was running things.

So, why was she eyeing the gun on the dresser and than the man sitting on the bed. Georgie was sure the clawed man wouldn't need a gun. And, of course, Rayne was on exactly the same page.

"Is this place a Hunter magnet or what? Cuz...we all seemed to have chosen the same exact place. Bit strange, don't you think?"

Georgie smirked. It amused her when Rayne tried to be witty or snarky. She was definitely the socially awkward of the two, usually Georgie doing the talking. Crossing her arms over her chest, to match her cousin, Georgie sighed.

"Why do we always manage to fall into a job? I just wanted some sleep."

Georgie listened to the others debate, finally deciding to discuss everything in the morning. Although Georgie was definitely okay with going back to bed, she was definitely not okay with leaving all her questions unanswered. Finally, succumbing to their requests, she and Rayne made their way back to their room.

"This is all your fault," She said to her cousin again.

Pushing back into their room, Georgie kicked off her boots, letting them slam against the small dresser across from her bed. Domino meowed, honestly it wasn't really a meow, from the sudden noise. He had stood from his spot on Rayne's bed to greet them.

"Go back to bed," She said to the animal. He was already moving towards Georgie's bed. He did that constantly, always moving between the two girls beds, trying to find which one he wanted to sleep against more.

Pulling her camo jacket off, Georgie collapsed on her bed. "Wake me up when breakfast is ready." She grumbled in her pillow.

Georige could feel the sun beating down on her, making her body really hot. And just her luck, Domino decided to climb on top of her back and rest there. She grumbled, she hated when he did that. Georige felt like she couldn't move or the damn cat would dig it's nails into her back.

He had done it on many occasions. She knew better than to trust the little beast.

"Hey, Rayne," Georgie called. No response. Sighing, Georgie buried her head in her pillow. Of course, this had to be the one time her cousin would be dead to the world. Grabbing her pillow, careful not to disturb the cat, Georgie chucked the object at Rayne.

It nailed her in the head, and rebounded off onto the floor. Nothing. Georgie groaned loudly. She was going to be stuck like this for a while.

She felt her stomach grumble with hunger. "Dammit,"

Rayne felt the pillow hit her, but she remained still. Sleep had eluded her once again after a nightmare had woken her up after only an hour of rest. It was strange. She hadn't had such intense dreams for awhile now. With them cropping up again, she wondered if she should worry about her health. She definitely hadn't been sleeping well, not that she would tell Georgie this. It seemed her cousin hadn't noticed yet. Rayne was gifted in never having circles under her eyes, even after days with sleep. Georgie hated her for it, but Rayne cared little. It just gave her an excuse to brush off the lack of sleep. If she couldn't see the effects in the mirror, then there was no need to worry.

She did sit up though after a few minutes, grabbing Domino who let out a sound halfway between a meow and a purr, before lugging him to the bathroom and placing him int he tub of the shower. She undressed and ran the water, smiling as the black cat inched away from the droplets, yet stared at the water at his feet curiously. He was so weird.

She dressed and found Georgie up too, ready to shower again. Waiting for her cousin, Rayne plopped down on her bed again, Domino joining her on her stomach. They were meeting the other Hunters for breakfast. Part of her felt like ditching. It wasn't like they meant anything to her or Georgie. There didn't seem to be a job that they were feuding over. But it was rather curious, especially the man with the claw. She couldn't quite place where she had seen the appendage before...

"Can I get some two pancakes, scrambled egg, three slices of bacon, two pieces of toast, hash browns, lots of hash browns, and another coffee please."

Georgie ticked off the items she desired to the waiter. He scribbled quickly, trying to keep up with her requests. She closed her menu and smiled at the boy, then looked over at Rayne who was shaking her head.

"What? I'm hungry. The last time we ate was two nights ago. And all we had were gas station sandwiches." She threw a piece of her napkin at her cousin who knocked it away. "Thank you." She said to the waiter as he took their menus away.

He was cute. His shaggy black hair falling into smokey gray eyes. He was definitely young though. Probably working to pay for college. Or save up for a car.

Leaving back in her seat, Goergie smiled at the waiter as he filled her coffee mug. She added another cream and sipped it happily. The caffeine buzzed in her head and she could instantly feel her headache diminish.

"So, are new friends aren't here yet." Georige pointed out. "When do you think they'll show up?"

Rayne shrugged. Her mind had been elsewhere, sizing up a rather attractive young man who sat in the corner of the small space, sipping on coffee and reading a magazine while he waited for his eggs and hash browns. Rayne could easily read his lips from this distance. He seemed nice...well built...pleasant...or so she imagined and hoped. So much would be different if she could escape this life...never turn back...have someone to confide in...

Her cousin sat across the table, sure. But she had little tolerance for heart to hearts. Rayne agreed with her out loud, but inwardly she wished she could just let it all out, cry every tear she had disallowed herself for the past eight years. She couldn't talk to Georgie, not really. She wished she could find someone...anyone...who could listen and just...understand...

Food arriving, Georgie's order three times Rayne's, the girls began to eat. Rayne scanned the place for their "friends" as Georgie put it. But she noticed someone enter and sit at the bar instead, dirty jacket, jeans worn down and stained here and there...Squinting, she wondered if this gal was a liken spirit to them. Rayne excused herself to the bathroom while trying to get a better look at the girl's face. Pretty. And with that trying-to-hide-my-past glare, she was definitely material for a Hunter. Rayne returned a few moments later, catching the girl's eye and nodding once before sitting with Georgie again.

"I really do think this place is a Hunter magnet. Bar, third down."

"I really do think this place is a Hunter magnet. Bar, third down."

Georgie looked up from her plate, mouth stuffed with eggs and hash browns. She swallowed and washed down the food with a swig of coffee. Giving a inconspicuous glance to the bar, she immediately spotted who Rayne was talking about.

Blonde hair. Tattered clothes. Eyes hiding secrets and a troubled past. Definitely Hunter material.

"Good eye," Georgie said turning her gaze back to her cousin. She was quiet, taking in her surroundings. Although the two were close, they did have clashing personalities. Rayne was all touchy feely all the time, and Georgie had a tendency to bottle everything up and take it out on whatever crap creature they were fighting at the time.

They had been on the road together for a long time, but they were still at odds. They experienced a horrible past together, but they reacted to it differently. It was just how they were.

"You missed something though." Georgie added squirting more ketchup onto her hash browns. "Back corner. Dressed like he's about to MC a wedding. Definitely not from around here."

Sarah had her eyes fixed infront of her, thinking how lovely it must be to have a simple job like this. Nothing to really worry about, no demons or monsters.
Just normal problems like, money and love. Things she never had time to worry about, well.. She never really had given anything about that a thought. A simple sigh left her mouth as she felt someone pass her, looking at her.
She looked at the girl who passed her, she was definitly looking at her. She gave her a light smile and a small nood as a greeting and followed her as she sat down with another girl. They must be friends or something, and both of them had looked at her.
"Here you go." the lady said and it actually suprised Sarah, she flinched a bit and looked at the lady with a suprised look but smiled.
"Thank you." Sarah looked down at her plate and started to eat of the pancakes. She was even more tired then she thought, a nice bed and some really nice rest wouldn't be bad now. It had been some time she slept well enough lately and it bothered her. She sighed even deeper and gave another glance towards the girls.
Could they be the same as her? Maybe, she could only guess. The girl who ahd walked by and given her a small nood was pretty. Brown hair and.. There had been something in her eyes.
She focused on eating again. She was way to tired to think about it anymore. She had other stuff to think about right now. Like eating and finding a good place to stay over the night. Getting sleep before continuing on her road.
She had found a lead on her brother, she knew she shouldn't look after him but she needed him now more then ever. It was close to that time and she didn't want to go through it alone.

Azazel looked over to Jude. "Do you have any idea how that could have gone last night?! They could have all tried to kill me...at the same time!" he said shocked she didn't even think about it. Azazel took a bite of his eggs and a sip of his sweet tea. Cassandra was walking back with someones fresh cup of coffee and tripped and it splashed all over Rayne and Georgie's table.

"I'm so sorry!" she said fumbling to get up and catch the coffee with the paper napkins on the table. Azazel couldn't help but look up as she fell. Being the gentleman he was he jumped up in a blink of an eye with a proper towel he grabbed off a near by table.

"Well hello again ladies." he said awkwardly.

"I'm so sorry I'm so very very sorry." Cassandra said seeming to beg for forgiveness from the two ladies. She backed away from the table because Azazel was wiping up the mess. "I'm sorry." she whispered feeling useless.

Jude couldn't help but frown at him, did he really think she hadn't thought about it last night, how they could have tried to kill him? Apparently he didn't even know how concerned she was about their room being full of hunters, knowing she most likely wouldn't have been able to to anything if they went after him. She let him have his though, not correcting him in the least. When the girl had fumbled she turned too look just as Azazel had gotten up to help the poor girl, she seemed to nervous it was almost a bit to hard to watch. Her eyes soon glanced at the two woman from last night, she amused they had been there before her and Azazel had arrived.Jude couldn't help shake an odd presence in the diner though, something or someone was giving off weird vibes. She shook her and head continued to watch Azazel clean the mess.

The demon couldn't help but to let out a soft chuckle from where he was sitting, only being loud enough for him to hear and no one else. These humans were so useless and fragile, just the slightest cut on their body and it could get infected and potentially kill them, nothing but worthless hairless apes. Oh how this town was going to be more than just a boring pass through, this town was going to be marvelous, riddled with something fun to do around any corner. He just needed to figure out what he was going to do first, perhaps cause a group of low life monsters to rampage and kill innocent people. The potential was almost limitless, anything to get ride of all these hunters.

Rayne and Georige continued talking in hushed towns, trying to decipher who or what exactly was sitting in the back corner. "Probably a demon," Georige guessed. "A higher one too. Dressed too nice to be anything else."

Rayne nodded in agreement. Georgie scooped up another forkful of eggs and hashbrowns, when hot coffee suddenly fell upon her. She cried out, quickly pushing away from her seat. Her skin sizzled from the hot liquid and she quickly began wiping away the droplets.

The waitress who had spilled the coffee was trying helplessly to clean up the mess. She apologized over and over and over again. "Hey, it's alright. Shit happens." Georgie laughed, trying to calm the young waitress. She continued to apologize even as the creature from last night had shown up to help clean up the mess.

"Well, hello again ladies." He said as he began wiping up the coffee.

"Well, hello again good sir." Georgie smiled, noting the bandage around his hand. That was the hand that was not human. Interesting.

The young waitress continued to apologize, her hands covering her face. Georige placed her hands on the woman's shoulders, and forced her to face her. "Hey, it's okay." She said with a smile. "Everything's okay now. No harm done."

April woke up to hear her alarm blaring next to her. She must have slept through it. Sighing, she turned off the radio and stood, stretching her back. She started gathering up her things to move to a different motel, which was something she did to lose anybody that could possible be on her trail, when she remembered the group from last night. She frowned slightly, considering to just blow it off altogether, but then she thought of that demon she was chasing. She needed more then one hunter, that was for sure. Running a brush through her tangled hair, she searched around her dresser for a weapon that wouldn't be sticking out. She simply decided on a knife, sticking it in her combat boot like the night before. Then, following her nose, she went off to breakfast.

"Everything's okay now. No harm done." The blonde looked up to see the two girls from before, one of them covered in coffee, and then Azazel helping out with cleaning up the mess. She closed her eyes and bit the inside of her cheek to prevent from laughing, and then just stood there for a bit. Eventually, she opened her eyes and put a grin on her face before walking over. She didn't have a towel on hand, so she simply stood there for a minute and watched.

"A lot happens in 30 minutes." April said, announcing her presence to everybody at the table. She simply gave a small laugh before heading over to the waitress in distress. Apparently, she was the one that spilled the coffee. She opened her mouth to say some a rather snarky remark, but somebody in the far corner of the room caught her eye. Who would be wearing clothes like that in this town? Demon, had to be. She wanted to take her knife and slit his throat right then and there, but that wouldn't look very well in the public. She turned back to the waitress, and then smiled again.

"It's alright. I'm sure he's having fun cleaning it up, anyway." She said, giving an even kinder smile and then a laugh as she indicated to Azazel.
