a character in “The Lucky Thirteen”, as played by wakeangel

Description

I think I may be the only mass murderer ever whose victim's families lobbied to have saved from the death penalty. Why should I be allowed the ease of a quick and painless death, they argued, when I committed such atrocities that denied the same to their loved ones? The judicial solution was elegant, almost easy. I applaud their cunning. Won't they be surprised when I never show up on Squarkal V to play nice for the cameras.

In sending me to that gods-forsaken hellhole, everyone was to get what they wanted. I'd die, but not quickly or easily. I'd suffer, and I'd bleed, and as an added perk, the monstrous acts I'd commit to survive wouldn't hurt anyone they care about, so that makes it all just fine, right? Atrocity becomes entertainment, and they become just like me. I found, and still do, the whole concept vastly amusing considering how often I'd egg my boys and girls on just so I could enjoy watching them work on some poor unfortunate or other. Same concept.

What they didn't realize is that my sentencing suited me just fine, too, though this new gig looks to be a whole hell of a lot more fun for me. I have no intention of dying, and nothing this piece of shit mission throws at me is going to hurt me. That was written long before I came anywhere near their precious mommies and daddies, their sons, daughters and friends. And when I do get out of here, I'm going to hunt each and every one of those lobbyists down and make them wish I stopped with them where I stopped with those they cared about. Not out of revenge or anything- hell, they did me a favor. It just sounds like a lot of fun. Call it my own special way of saying thank you.

Name: answers only to Nemesis

Born: Rebecca McClairn

Age: 32

Gender: Female

Appearance: There are many theories on why Nemesis wears a mask. Some say it is vanity to cover the scars on her face, others think it is a way of distancing herself from her victims and yet others argue that it is a tool to build the mystique of the 'Nemesis persona'. They are all wrong.

Though she carries herself with the confidence and charisma of a natural born leader, nothing else in her average height and slender build hints at the monster within. She tends to dress simply in unrelieved black: halter top, pants and boots, gear strapped on at waist, thighs, hips and shoulders, and walks with the slow arrogant grace of a predator.

Personality

Personality: It is easier for most of those who have survived an encounter with her to sleep at night if they believe Nemesis isn't human, that no person could do the things she has done. In some ways they are correct. Right or wrong no longer exists for her as anything other than an abstract concept that holds no sway over her actions. To a sadomasochist afraid of nothing, with a demented sense of humor and no moral boundaries, the whole world is her playground and people are her toys.

Crime: Convicted of the deaths of 853 Federation colonists, 97 Federation soldiers, destruction of Federation property, and various other atrocities including maiming, enslavement and torture perpetrated on an additional 1213 Federation civilians, theft, piracy

Sentence: 903 consecutive life sentences

Time served: Less than a year

History

Bio:
Rebecca McClairn grew up on Prognarus VI, a small agrarian colony on the far edges of of the Federation. A liked and respected colony-member, she married a local business man at the age of twenty-two, and gave birth to a girl they named Emma, less than a year later. Pirates came weeks after Emma's third birthday.

In the first attack, they knocked out the communications array and most of the few men and women with any expertise at fighting, and then settled in to have some fun. When a trader ship landed two months later to pick up the harvest, it's crew found a graveyard, bodies left to rot where they had fallen and anything of value picked clean. Rebecca McClairn was listed among the missing. Her husband and baby girl were not.

No further information surfaced until a year later, when a woman matching Rebecca's description was filmed taking part in a raid by the same pirates on another world. Soon after, she was caught on camera again, actually posed for it as she flayed the face off a young man. Facial mutilation became her trademark, stirring fear throughout the sector when the news came that she now led those same pirates that destroyed her home and murdered her family.

Nemesis chose their targets well, sticking to the smaller, more lightly defended outer colonies where they killed or enslaved everyone and used the resources to expand their outfit. As profits came rolling in, she used them to expand their outfit, purchasing new ships and stronger weapons, growing bolder and bolder in her choice of targets.

Soon they were the terror of their region of space and frightened colonists appealed frantically to the Federation for protection. When they came, Nemesis saw it as a fun game and led the force a merry chase, always one step ahead and still striking with seeming impunity for over a year and a half before she was finally lured into a trap, the ships of her small fleet of raiders either destroyed or captured.

The trial was short, brutal and very public. She was sentenced to death along with the rest of her surviving crew, but the public protested in outrage, wanting her to suffer like those she preyed on. Law prohibited such actions, so a special assignment was arranged to Squarkal V, the worst penal colony they could find. Entertainment marketers planned a reality holo around monitoring her experiences there with prizes offered to the inmates who could make her life the most miserable without killing her.

Since her arrival on Londinium, she has kept a fairly low profile, learning the people, getting herself back in shape, but that's about to change...

So begins...
