2nd Lieutenant James York's Story

2nd Lieutenant James York stepped into the bar, his body armor adding to his bulk as he slid in through the door, shoving his M16 onto his back next to his submachine gun. He moved to an empty table, sitting down, feeling the booth creak under the weight of his armor. He slid his weapons down next to him, undoing the clips that held his armor in place. He threw it over the chair, but as it started to splinter, he set the armor down on the ground just behind his seat. He looked up, realizing he had just sat across from a woman who seemed to be quite well along. "When's the baby due?" he asked her.

"Tomorrow morning," he said, leaning forward," there's gonna be a parade there too. You should come, I'm sure it'd be good to show your patriotism by waving a nice little flag to give your support to all the men that are running off to God knows where."

"Good to hear," he said smiling," so, who's the lucky dad? Is he the one that dragged you into this bar so he could get slap-drunk and have you drive him home or something?"

"I'm sorry to hear that then," he said, his shoulders stiffening," he wasn't one of my men was he? You seem familiar for some reason."

2nd Lieutenant James York stood up, placing his arm on Kaleb's shoulder. "Excuse me son, this woman and I were having a conversation, I suggest you calm down."

"Allright, that's enough," he said, dragging the kid back. He spun Kaleb around," listen to me son. This is no time for you to be getting angry with a pregnant woman, so why don't you turn your happy-ass around and march out of this building. Otherwise, I'm going to have to make you. Is that understood?"

"Allright, I think it's time you had a few minutes to calm down," York said, stepping between him and Jaz," I'll mind my own business any time, but for right now, you've interrupted me and still haven't tried to apologize. Normally, I'd take it back in blood, but since you're a civilian, I'm gonna let you walk out of here. It's your choice, but I suggest you choose wisely."

2nd Lieutenant James York sighed. He took a step back, sitting back down in his chair. Now it really wasn't any of his business. He'd sit and wait to see how this turned out, though, for the moment, he flicked the safety off of his pistol, just in case. He also loosened his knife in its sheath. He didn't want the kid making a mistake that he'd regret for the rest of his life.
The setting changes from Gambit's Bar to The Infinite Void
Quickpaw Hurojo awakes after having been asleep for several years. Around the area was only void. It was empty. Dark. Cold. "Where... where have the spirits placed me?" He started patting his body all over; ensuring that he was corporeal. "Not dead; that's a plus." Though there was no time to lose. If he was corporeal, that likely means that he could return to the world he knew, and hopefully return to his king. He began running, hoping to find an exit to this ethereal obscurity.
