The Asuri society is maintained by a hundred leaders, each of their own ship. Often there will be a day-long council to discuss matters relating to Asuri, transmitted to and from their 'home', the Shadar. Otherwise, Asuri life revolves around seeking others across the galaxy to find the greatest of people to recruit, and to seek tradable materials, supplies or tribute.
Once every hundred years they perform a ritual to restore their lost numbers. It is the only time the Asuri are considered to unite as all hundred thousand return the the Shadar home. The ritual provides immortality at the cost of the ability to reproduce. This ritual is followed by the new Asuri creating their weapons. The inner workings of the ritual are unknown, but they are said to truly push a person to their limits.
The Asuri are generally meant to worship one individual god, however other beliefs are tolerated. They believe in the great phoenix Urol, a great being who created all the stars and the planets, and when the everything has aged and all the stars die there will be a mighty explosion and the unvierse will be created anew and the devout reborn to live in it.
All creatures capable of flight are considered worthy of the Asuri, however it is not strength or speed they prize, but height. The creature which can fly the highest is by far the most important, as they are the closest to the stars of Urol. Any Asuri who live long enough to see their second ritual are rewarded by creating their own construct in the form of a flying creature they deem most suitable.
Crystals* are the core component of most Asuri technology. Created deep in the hearth of the Shadar, these come in multiple colours and functions. The most common are blue. Blue crystals have a simple function in that they pulse energy out in all directions when activated. This pulse appears in a matching bluish colour and cannot pass through solid materials. Once used, they remained inert for several seconds until they can be activated again. Activation is achieved by zapping them with a small amount of energy (a nine volt battery being more than sufficient for hundreds of activations). However, due to an unusual 'resonation effect', as it is called, when this blue energy strikes another blue crystal it causes a stronger pulse.
As such, blue crystals are used primarily for weapons. Spears and other similar weapons are crafted, hollow in the centre then filled with crystals. A small electric pulse is charged through the lower crystal causing the pulse to blast upwards through the top. The force from this weapon can easily be enough to tear off limbs. Most of these weapons are also designed for melee combat. In turn, sometimes blue crystals are used for grenades, but oftenly not due to high risks involved in a chain reaction.
Purple are the second most common, though they serve as equal an inconvenience as convenience. When activated these crystals project a kinetic field one foot by one foot. This field cannot be bypassed except by force. (At a distance it will protect from small arms fire. Close range it serves only to protect from melee attacks).
Red crystals are highly volatile and will shatter violently after activation.
