Name: Daniel North
Physical Age: 20
Biological Age: 20
Race: Human (mutant)
Significant Relations: Embre, Lan Varynus - friends [with benefits].

Height: 6' 2"
Weight: 166 lbs
Physical Description: Strongly built and athletic, Daniel is a physically capable young man -- as his career demands. Bright - unnaturally so - green eyes form the centre of well formed and slightly chiselled features, with a warm and charming smile. Mid-length brown hair falls in a slightly wavy style to just above and around his ears, and a rose-vine tattoo runs the length of his right arm. With more than one scar, largely on his upper body (though as of yet his face remains unblemished), Daniel prefers to wear a coat most of the time (despite a certain pair insisting that the scars are 'sexy'), though usually with a tank-top or short-sleeved tee underneath. Daniel wears his back-holster complete with two pistols almost all of the time, as well as carrying a combat knife and a wrist-blade.

Personality: Daniel is a fun-loving and joking young man, with a good sense of humour and a confident demeanour. More than a little bit brash and reckless, Daniel is perhaps a little too confident in his invulnerability, particularly when driving or free-running. To give credit to him, crashing and falling off/through things is his job, but as Embre says, "Generally there's a net and an ambulance waiting for you at the bottom when you're working". Not exactly quick to anger, but neither mind-numbingly patient, Daniel will resort to violence when provoked strongly, but generally prefers to keep his retorts verbal.

Skills and Talents:
  • Driving -- in order to safely crash cars, you need to be an expert at not crashing them by accident at high speeds too.
  • Free-running -- a hobby, as well as coming quite handy when he's chasing down more reluctant bail-skippers.
  • Melee combat -- both with his knife and wrist blade, and without.
  • Marksmanship -- Daniel is most skilled with his pistols, but he's a good shot with a rifle too, and has the practice necessary to cope with a shotgun's recoil.
  • Ambidextrous -- Daniel can use both of his hands with equal precision.

Abilities:
  • Aura-Energy: Daniel is not an angel, despite his misleading tendency to sprout glowing wings from his back. As their insubstantial nature might suggest, these aren't permanent, but rather an aspect of his 'mutant powers' as an X-men fan would call them. This enables him to fly - with wings as largely an aesthetic extra, despite the motions having an effect on his flying Daniel isn't sure that they're the cause, or whether the movement causes them to react to it. They're certainly far too small, and he flies far too steadily, for them to be the sole reason behind the flight. As well as this flight, Daniel can project energy from his hands as physical or pure-energy bursts, i.e. force or lightning, as well as shield himself and others (if they stand close enough, that is). More uniquely, Daniel can utilise the power of astral projection. These powers are biological in nature, rather than magical, though they do draw on magical energy insofar as they are sourced from demonic genes implanted in him, they are not reliant on it being present in his surroundings.

Equipment:
  • Two pistols.
  • Combat knife.
  • Retractable wrist-blade (similar to Altair/Ezio's weapons, if you are familiar with the game, but broader and larger, as well as located on the back of his wrist rather than the front - comparable to the width of a thin shortsword, with the length of a dagger). A clenched fist on the mechanism is required for it to remain outside of its sheathe.

History (brief): Daniel is, in most respects, an ordinary guy. His daredevil career and tendencies are something that you could feasibly see in any adrenaline-junkie man or woman. However, the source of this excessive thrill-seeking is in fact that as a child, he was signed up to a medical trial in order to save his life. Daniel had cancer at a very young age, and his prognosis was fatal -- but his parents found a treatment trial through less than legitimate sources that offered the possibility of a total cure. Desperate, they took the chance. The process involved genetically altering Daniel and enhancing his human genes with supernatural ones - sourced largely from demonic entities. The process was a success, and seemingly miraculously, Daniel's cancer was cured by the unmatched immune system that the supernatural genes provided him. Of course, there were side effects. Unlike a number of the patients, Daniel didn't develop physical characteristics - horns, claws, wings (both bat-like and feathered) or tentacles - from the treatment, but instead he gained his aura-based powers, and his daredevil and vigorous personality. The treatment was shut down after the mutated patients were revealed to the world, and many of those involved were quarantined 'to safeguard the public'. Daniel escaped to Wing City, where he has lived ever since.

So begins...

The sound of booted feet hitting the rooftops overhead signalled the arrival of the two 'trainees'. Daniel would probably have detested the terminology. Having worked part-time as a bounty hunter for almost a year now, and the rest of the time as a stunt-actor, he was of the opinion that he was pretty damn good at what he did already.

As far as he saw it, he was just shifting his services from the law to these people.

Embre, on the other hand, was very much a trainee. "I really wish..." she grumbled, "That you were less .. haphazard about your landings."

Daniel snorted, "Maybe you should just cut down on the cupcakes, babe. I'm perfectly capable with my landings when I'm not carrying passengers."

Setting Embre down, the translucent green wings that sprouted from the brown-haired youth's back faded away. The pair of them made their way to the edge of the rooftop, and hooking his arm about Embre's waist, Daniel jumped down. He landed solidly on a dumpster, Embre letting out a faint squeak with the jolt.

"Afternoon!" Daniel called, hopping down to the ground. "Sorry we're late -- traffic was terrible." Nevermind the fact that they flew.

Daniel raised an eyebrow, "Just like that? I take it I'm not meant to go all out, yeah? I mean, that would hardly be fair. You know what I can do."

Daniel slipped into a ready stance, before advancing on the sewer grate. Embre followed behind him, glancing down. "Nasty. Try not to get crap in your hair -- 'least not if you're hoping on getting lucky with Lan later tonight. He's got a great sense of smell, and from here I can tell you that he wouldn't need one if you fell over in that."

Daniel blinked, "How do you know about--"

"Us girls know these things, honey. Now go on in there and give this guy a run for his money."

Shaking his head and muttering something about women, Daniel dropped down. Immediately, his eyes lit up, bright green light beginning to radiate from his body to illuminate the surrounding area. Ready for an attack from behind, Daniel kept his ears open for the telltale splash of footsteps in the dampness that coated the walkways.

Daniel spun around, stepping around to face the direction the voice had come from and backing away quickly upon not sighting Marcus. His new angle, however, meant that the man was now easily visible. Incidentally, Daniel wasn't wearing a shirt, rather a tank top, and so didn't actually have a collar.

Ducking under Marcus' hand, Daniel jerked his own arm upwards to grab Marcus by the wrist, and attempt to pull him forcefully off of the ladder and into the sewage. Strong, from long hours spent in the gym, Daniel's pull would be hard to resist on a precarious perch like the ladder, where no real leverage could be achieved.

"Don't underestimate me, either. I might not have fought in any wars, but I'm no pushover."

Despite having a solid stance, Daniel was hit hard enough by Marcus' tackle that he was unable to keep it. The slippy floor didn't help much either, and the combination of that and the man's greater size brought Daniel down.

Almost all the way.

A few inches from the ground, Daniel stopped. A faint translucent green glow appeared between him and the floor, and he wiggled his eyebrows. Drawing his arm back, hoping to take advantage of the surprise that Marcus would no doubt have that they hadn't impacted the floor, Daniel made to punch him hard in the side of the face.

As Daniel shot back to his feet, propelled by a beat of briefly manifesting translucent wings, he turned to face the rolling Marcus. Now, Daniel might have enjoyed showing up someone who had talked so confidently to start with, but at the same time, he wasn't the type to kick a man (who he was sparring with, at least) while he was down.

This obviously didn't apply to when he was actually trying to kick the shit out of someone, rather than just prove his ability.

"C'mon, man, you're making this too easy." Daniel taunted.

From the sewer grating above, Embre peered down at the fight. "Don't mock the poor man, Daniel! It's hardly a fair fight, you with your ... floatiness!"

"That's hardly fair! In a real fight, I would be doing this..." Daniel lifted a hand and casually sent a pulse of bright green light to shoot down the sewer tunnel, hitting the wall and blasting a sizeable chunk out of it. "Or I'd just, you know, shoot the guy first. I thought that would be a little over the top for a spar, you know?"

From up above, Embre coughed. "Uh, not to be prissy, but a proper training court would probably be better ... Daniel actually knows how to fight, see. My limitations extend to shooting in a straight line and zapping things with magic. I'm no melee fighter as it stands."

Daniel took Marcus' hand with a nod. "She's not lying. She generally opts for flailing over anything else."

"Shut up!"

"My brother?!" Embre gaped, "Hell no! That would be so wrong it's unbelievable." the blonde girl shook her head. "We're friends." she said, firmly.

Climbing his way out of the sewer, Daniel raised an eyebrow. "Yeah, if she was my sister, we'd be breaking laws, dude. Speaking of inappropriate subjects, I'm satisfied that I just need a change of shoes and a shower, and I'll be smell-free. Of course, I shouldn't make it a policy that I only take care not to fall in shit when there's a lay in it for me, but shh."

Embre rolled her eyes.

"A shield?" Daniel glanced at Marcus, "You mean, like this one?" he asked, the green glow once again pouring out from him to form a barrier. "And I'm no angel. I'm just a seriously fucked up human. Got more demon in me than angel, and even that's not exactly racial. It's a long story."

The door of the bar swung open, to admit a tall young man holding a sheet of paper in one hand, and gesturing dismissively behind himself with the other. "No, you can't tag along! I'm working. Knowing your luck you'll end up being shot or something."

Daniel North rolled his eyes, taking a few steps into the bar and glancing around. He examined the blurry photo on the sheet he held, depicting Red running past an obviously expensive water feature, an even more obviously expensive jewellery box gripped in her hand. The light was poor, but Daniel could just about make out the woman's features. Gambit's was probably the best place to start ...

... Daniel paused, eyes landing on Red herself. He looked down at the photo, and then back up at her.

Well. That was easy.

"Lan ..." Daniel sighed, "I don't want you hanging around. This is more than likely to get ugly, and if you're here I'll be second guessing myself half the time to keep an eye on you." The young man put a hand on the other's shoulder and nudged him towards the door. "We can hang out later, I'll buy you a drink."

As Daniel turned to face Lan, his jacket slipped up to inadvertently reveal the pistol holstered at his waist. If that didn't set off Red's alarm bells, the fact that he turned to keep a cautionary eye on her again might well do.

Daniel facepalmed. "Lan ... don't be a kid..." he groaned, shaking his head. Turning back to Red, he was irritated to discover her slipping out. "Now look what you did!" he grumbled.

The young man abandoned Lan to swiftly take off after the woman, just as the door was swinging closed behind her.

Daniel eyed Red warily as he emerged into the alleyway, brushing his fingers against the mechanism in his right hand that triggered his wrist blade. "I told him to bugger off." Daniel said, "In case this got ugly."

Daniel shrugged, "He's probably pissed off, but that just means I get make-up sex later." Of course, Daniel was the type to discuss his sex life with random strangers that he intended to beat up. That was just him through and through.

"Never heard of him. Fancy-pants name though. Sounds like a dick. But anyway, down to business..." Daniel folded his arms, "We have two options at this point. Option one is you just follow me, I give you to my boss, and he gives you to whoever the hell wanted you got. Option two is you don't, I beat you up and haul your ass to my boss, and things go as before."

Daniel cracked his neck, the faint image of a pair of luminescent green wings fading into existence behind him. "C'mon, make your mind up. I don't have all day. Well, I do, but I'd rather spend the latter half of it making up for brushing the cute one off."

"Excellent news!" Daniel flexed his fingers, keeping his guard up, "Care to join me, then? Just because you don't have weapons doesn't mean you aren't packing some magic shit too." he said, reaching behind himself and dangling a pair of handcuffs.

"I'll pass on the drink, thanks. Sexual connotations aside, I'll be happy just to get you into these and we can be on our way."

Daniel effectively pronounced an ellipse at this development, clicking the cuffs shut with a scowl. "Lan, I told you ... I don't want you around, if this goes bad."

The taller man straightened and looked back at Lan. "You have the worst timing. You're making me look less badass in front of the criminal."

Daniel was rather more distracted by the appearance of Lan than the fire, but both served to adequately inconvenience him. The man yelped in pain as the fire burnt at his hands, the cuffs shattering, and staggered sideways as Red's kick connected. He hit the wall with a bleary groan of pain, but with a shake of his head he quickly recovered.

The faint wings upon his back brightened significantly, and his eyes lit up with bright green light, his already striking green irises becoming quite literally radiant. "That was a cheap shot, you bitch!" he growled, dropping into a fighting stance and stepping purposefully forwards, while jabbing a fist towards Red's stomach.

Well, that had been a bad plan. Daniel blamed Lan for being distracting. The young man took the fireball in the chest, grimacing, but stood his ground despite the punching force. He pulled back away from the woman, as his own arms lit up with a green fire.

"You know the old phrase ... fight fire with glowing green shit." he muttered, before sweeping his arms around in an arc to send a wave of heat searing across the alleyway, covering the entire space horizontally, though it was narrow vertically.

Daniel's reaction to the fireball was less than intuitive. Rather than avoiding it, the young man instead... kicked it. His leg wrapped with bright translucent green, the supernatural energies deflecting the fire and its explosive payload with only a slight kickback. Daniel recovered his balance swiftly, and glared at Red.

"Just try it." he growled, the translucent flames around his forearms spreading to envelop both entire arms. Eyes flashing brightly, he spread his arms, and from his palms shot two beams of powerful energy, physical in nature. If they impacted, each beam carried with it the force to break down a door.

"When I said just try it," Daniel hissed, "I meant it as a warning, not literally." He was pissed off now. Lan might not quite be his boyfriend, but he was damn well close enough, and people did not throw fire at Daniel's partners without suffering the consequences.

Daniel darted forwards with a beat of his wings, shooting forwards with high speeds to slam a brightly glowing fist into the dumpster, that sent it flying backwards towards Red with some force.

"I gave you the chance to come quietly." Daniel said, wings beating again as he launched himself up to land on top of the dumpster. "I was perfectly willing to do this without any sort of pain for anyone. But then you attacked me - which, you know, is reasonable. Just means I have to kick your ass first."

Daniel scowled, "But you also attacked Lan. Any innocent bystander, and that's crossing the line. But you've had to go and make it personal. Too fucking bad for you."

Daniel slammed his fist downwards towards Red, discharging another beam towards her directly from overhead.

Daniel gathered his arms around himself in preparation to deflect an incoming fireball, but he wasn't expecting the dumpster to be detonated beneath him. The young man was sent flying by the blast, and landed hard in the alleyway with a groan. With the burns on his chest, forearms and now legs all searing, Daniel thought he might have underestimated this girl. He staggered upwards, gashes on his legs and lower body seeping blood.

Coughing, Daniel focused his vision on Red again, wings flickering slightly but remaining visible. "Nice try." he muttered, gathering his energy around himself again in preparation for another attack.
