Elizabeth Fern

Rain down, these memories of mine

a character in “The Multiverse”, originally authored by FizzGig, as played by RolePlayGateway

Description

Forgive me if I don't seem like the most amiable person alive. I'd love to get to know you, but on your terms. There's a lot of things you don't know about me, that I don't want you to know about me, because people, as genuine as they might seem, love to jump to conclusions.

I'll hang back and smile. I'm pretty easy-going. Just don't give me trouble. I promise I won't give it back.

"Why don't you make me, jackass!" Elizabeth shouted before turning and breaking into a sprint.

Guys were fucking off their nut if they thought she'd stand still. Aliens. Jesus Christ, who wrote THIS fanfiction?

She cried out the moment the bullet of sorts struck the pavement in front of her. She skidded to a stop, retreating quickly before turning to stare at the men who were coming her way. "Listen!" she shouted, turning and pointing an angry finger at the pair of them.

"I don't know who you guys think you are, but if you.." She felt her breath choke off when the ship itself blew a spot up in the street not far from them. She didn't know what to say. What was she to do?

"What the hell do you want from me?!"

She struggled. Really she did, but when they touched her, it was like a blinder had been put up. She felt her knees go weak as their simultaneous memories assaulted her senses, flooding her with feelings and sensations that were not her own. She slumped against the one, if only slightly, before attempting to correct herself and pull away.

No use.

She was dimly aware of the light ahead, and tried to focus on it, to return to her own mind, but she was floating so freely through the thoughts of the others that she couldn't find anything to grasp hold of. It was so intense she felt nauseated.

The phrase 'resistance is futile' screamed through her mind as the pair grabbed her firmly by the upper arms. She struggled, trying to get away from them as desperately as she could manage, but damn. Those suits they wore didn't provide an opportunity for her to break free of their grasp.

She pulled against them as they tugged her forward, shouting for help, and knowing that none would come. The light ahead swallowed them up, and she could feel her feet leave the ground.

Oh, this was not happening.

In the back of her mind, Liz wondered if she was dreaming. Perhaps she had fallen asleep at Gambits, or simply eaten something bad the night before. Whatever the reason, she was almost sure that what was happening wasn't reality. That is, until she entered the CIC with her captors, and heard the voice of the woman who seemed to be behind the whole operation.

Her hands tightened to fists at her sides, feet stumbling to catch up with her when they rudely shoved her forward. She straightened, attempting to maintain some semblance of dignity, and leveled a firm stare at the woman who had spoken.

Ah, this again.

"So you kidnapped me to prove a point. No maturity wasted on your part. I'm impressed. I didn't think you were capable of being this petty, but obviously I was wrong."

Liz glowered. "Sure your daddy would be proud if he wasn't dead."

Liz clenched her hands to fists, her jaw tensing occasionally. "You share a lot more than you think." she told her. "But, really, it's nothing that interesting. I'm just a boring punk who happened to kick your ass a few nights ago." She narrowed her eyes ever so slightly.

"And I'd appreciate it if you didn't throw stereotypes around. Otherwise I'm going to have to use a few very unkind words to describe just what I think of you."

Elizabeth Fern glanced to the gun, swallowing before inwardly cursing herself for what she'd said. Too much, obviously. She stared at Sheila, refusing to look away. She wasn't afraid, per se, though the idea of getting blown to bits by the Disruptor rifle wasn't something she was looking forward to.

With a sigh, she held out her hand.

"Just touch my palm." she said through gritted teeth, as though it were the last thing she wanted to happen. "It's easier to show you what I mean."

"By aversion measures," Elizabeth said out loud, "Do you mean torture?"

There was a breath of silence before Elizabeth pulled her hand away. She was watching the other woman, waiting for her response, waiting to see what she would do.

Elizabeth did so, closing her eyes and spacing her feet to maintain her balance. She clenched her jaw as a wave of images came forward, rushing before her mind's eye like a motion picture. "I, a woman. She's sticking a needle in her neck.."

But she was seeing other things too. Things Sheila probably wouldn't want her to see. She rapidly withdrew her hand again. "Don't know how I can do it. I just know I can." she said, a bead of moisture slipping down her temple. She couldn't continue to touch her, not unless she wanted to make the woman pass out.

"How about my dignity?" Elizabeth replied shortly. "Or my individuality? Some things are more important that common ammenities." She crossed her arms over her chest. "You wanted to kill me before, then humiliate me, and now you want me to work for you?"

A brow lifted, and she shifted her weight from one foot to the other. "Why don't you talk to me about what you plan to do with my talent before we start talking about contracts and such, Hmm?"

Elizabeth detected a faint threat in Sheila's explanation, but she was in no position to argue at this point. She was stuck in their ship, under their rules, and in her opinion, there didn't seem to be much of a point in arguing.

After all, it wasn't like she had to cooperate all the time? She was the one who could read their thoughts, not the other way around. As for the other aspect of her little talent? She'd be keeping that to herself, thank you very much.

"So what, exactly, am I supposed to do now then?"

Elizabeth couldn't help it. She started to laugh. "You've got to be kidding me," she added after a moment, trying to collect herself. "I, no. Not at all. Believe it or not, dumping the soda was an accident. I touched the bartender's hand and got more than what I paid for, to say the least."

She rubbed the back of her head with her hand and shrugged. "I've been told I clean up well.."

Liz kept her walk casual, her hands slung into the pockets of her hoodie as she looked around. Everything looked ridiculous, in her unprofessional opinion. Things were polished to a harsh gleam, with computers bleeping and lighting up at various intervals as they walked. There were people everywhere, all of them dressed in uniforms similar to Sheila's.

She hesitated to watch the surgery take place before the soldier behind her nudged her forward.

"Elizabeth Fern," she replied distractedly. "I'm a size three." Was that a robot performing the surgery?

She was having trouble keeping up with the lingo, but she nodded and pretended like she understood, hesitating in front of the door to her room before looking back to Sheila. "I just got a quick question.." She reached out to touch the back of the woman's hand.

"Would you have had me killed had I not come to you with this interesting little gift of mine?"

Elizabeth Fern glanced around her room, taking a look at herself in the polished mirror. She furrowed her brow, rubbing at her face momentarily before removing her hood and tossing it off to the side. Her long, black hair hung in waves to the middle of her back, and she wasn't interested in putting it up, not unless she had to. So she stripped out of her street clothes, washed up, and dressed herself in the uniform.

All in all, Liz wasn't a knock-out, but she was quite pretty, and something about the uniform seemed to emphasize her curves, but made her look harder, more professional, stronger. When she looked in the mirror, she didn't really even recognize herself.

"Miss Fern," she said with a wrinkle to her nose. "You look like you've been drafted."

Her reflection cracked a smile at her.

"Combat training?" Elizabeth asked, walking at Sheila's elbow. She'd never liked being trained for a particular style. It meant someone could predict her movements, made it harder to beat a person in combat.

"And I've never been on another planet." she said with a brief nod. "I'd imagine it isn't much different than being on Terra."

She followed quietly then, keeping her eyes forward rather than glancing around. If she was going to be a soldier, she may as well start acting like it.

There wasn't much more for the girl to do other than admire the surroundings, and sit quietly by. When the hovercart appeared, she was hesitant at first to climb in, since she'd never been the biggest fan of heights.

But she did, taking a slow, deep breath through her nose and getting into the cart with Sheila. None of anything she said made much sense to her. She had never been around space ships or anything militaristic. She assumed half of the things Sheila said pertained to the names of these particular structures, much in the same way a person named a boat or a car.

Needless to say, her head was spinning.

"I'm taking it in stride." Liz said with a slight nod. She had to, otherwise her head would fall clean off her shoulders.

Nice to meet you, she wanted to say. But it wasn't really that nice at all. Everything that was said to her sounded like a command.

She stepped up to the table, looking at the papers, and reached to pick up the pen. More lingo she didn't understand. The Zatarc must have been some kind of database of sorts. She looked back to Sheila, her brow furrowed slightly, before taking a seat and beginning the long process of filling out her information.
