Griff Raley-Sinclair

Paranormal activity seems more raw, more unforgiving on the West Coast. Fortunately, SA Raley-Sinclair has always had a finger on the pulse of the LA's underworld.

Description

Short bio

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Griff spent eighteen years just surviving on the streets before putting on an SCD badge, and investing another six years to protect them. There aren't many medals or accolades for the sort of cases he and his team pull in. It's the gritty stuff not shown in the University workshops - when crime and magic meet, it's never pretty.

Just a quarter inch shy of six foot, a former freestyle fighter with close-cropped hair. Griff isn't a hulking figure, but he's a commanding one. When he's on the scene with his arms folded across his chest, you know everything is going to be just fine.

His abilities stem mostly from his ability to Push. It's a force-field manipulation that commonly results in just concussive telekinetic blasts, but with practice born from necessity, Griff has fine-tuned this skill. Now, instead of just hurling objects or solid waves of pressure, there's a more delicate control. Griff is currently working on being able to lift himself, or other people.

Besides that, Griff is a fairly standard human being. He's dodged about as many bullets as he's deflected - and taken a couple, too. He loves Chinese food but is allergic to shellfish, watches Lost when he's not working, and has a two-year-old daughter named Kaylyn.

Poised for a promotion to head the Major Cases squad, Griff was less than thrilled to find an East Coast transfer by the name of Liesha Kennicot suddenly stepping in, and taking control of his team. The two got off to a rocky start, and it's unlikely that they'll ever see eye to eye.

So begins...

Griff Raley-Sinclair You always had to be careful ducking into Gambit's bar. Bottles, chairs, people often went sailing through the air with alarming regularity. Griff wasn't often assigned to the post, but when he was, he always made a point of opening the door, checking for projectiles, and THEN stepping through.

At just one quarter inch shy of six foot, Griff might have looked a bit strange entering the establishment so tenderly - but he survived every day by being so careful. You wouldn't last long on 16th street stomping around like you owned the place. Except down there, it was more often bullets and curses than, say, bar stools.

He could use a beer tonight, anyways.

Griff Raley-Sinclair Not that he was ever especially relaxed, but places like this made Griff's skin stand on end. It wasn't just the various types of magic running rampant (though with his abilities, that might have been a large part of it), it was the people themselves, too. Evil was so real, sometimes, so tangible .. he knew that just from going through an average day at work.

Griff made his way to one of the bar stools, pulling himself slowly onto the seat. He cast Jacey a quick look, not wanting to stare at her - but she was making a scene.

Instead of demanding for the bartender to 'come there' Griff sort of leaned back a bit, content to wait and to watch. He had enough on his mind to keep him busy anyways.

Griff Raley-Sinclair "Lost? Not entirely." Griff leaned back so that his SCD badge was clearly visible. "I know right where I am, thanks." He gave a sort of half-smile to show he didn't mean to be rude. "Am waiting for someone, though."

Griff Raley-Sinclair "Special Cases Department. Out of the United States, Earth." Griff glanced down at the battered gold shield. "Deals with controlling and identifying magical and paranormal happenings in the urban sector. Or something like that."

The words of the handbook had long ago been etched into Raley-Sinclair's mind. He kneaded his forehead with his knuckles.

Turning back to Jacey, Griff felt nearly overpowered by the alcohol on her breath.

"I'd like one, sure. I'd like this one, especially." SA Raley-Sinclair plucked her drink from her slack grip. He set it quietly at his other side.

Griff Raley-Sinclair "The Exorcists? Proper known? Or exorcists in general?" Griff rolled the beer bottle around on its base, letting its shallow contents slosh around a bit. He glanced back up at Oubliette.

Griff Raley-Sinclair "I sure hope it isn't shiny." Griff seemed remarkably patient with the girl. He gently took her wrist, deferring her from poking him in the belt again. "I been an Agent probably longer than you've been in school. How old are you?"

Griff Raley-Sinclair Dom wandered over to the front counter, taking in Griff with an arced, grizzled eyebrow.

"What can I get you?" The old bartender asked.

"Some information .. " Griff showed his badge. "I'm Special Agent Raley-Sinclair; word is you hear some pretty solid stuff working in a place like this."

"That's truth enough." Dom wiped his hands slowly, tossed the old towel behind him and into the sink. "What do you need to know, Agent?"

"There's someone who comes in here that I'm interested in. There's enough on her file, but it's not what I want to know." Griff returned his badge to his belt, leaned in a bit closer. "Her name is Liesha Kennicot."

Griff Raley-Sinclair Dom blinked a bit. "What's she done now?" He asked, leaning in a little further. "Being investigated by her own people?"

"Nothing like that. She's in fine standing, I'm sure, but .. " Griff glanced over his shoulder. If anyone from his team saw him here, he'd be finished. "I just got the papers today. She's a transfer from the New York office. Taking over my team. My team! I just want a little background on her, is all."

Dom tapped his chin. "She's competent. Capable. Doesn't take shit from anyone. Will probably be extremely hard to work with."

Griff Raley-Sinclair Waiting was always the worst. Griff sat in the corner of the bar, drumming his fingers on the table, hunkered down as much as he could - eyes on the door.

When he saw the blue coat, Griff lurched to his feet, fist pulled back. He readied a Push and nearly slammed Caelum across the room -- but stopped himself just in time. Nope. Not right. Calm down, Raley. Hot damn.

There was no real way to hide the sudden momentum. Griff let the energy fade from his fist. He would have settled back to his seat, but hell -- he was up anyways.

He could use a beer. Griff muttered a curse under his breath, and wandered over to the counter as well. That had been a close call.

Griff Raley-Sinclair twisted the cap off his beer, swiveled on the bar stool. He kept his eyes on the door again - front and center. Hey - when Exile came in, he knew what he was getting into.

Griff closed his palm over the bottle cap. He tossed it up into the air and gave it a Push. The telekinetic field flared just slightly, loosing the cap like a bullet to the other side of the bar where it struck the wall and clattered to the ground.

He needed to release some energy anyways. He lowered his hand. What was he gonna say to the guy next to him - 'Hey, sorry I almost ripped your head off right there, I'm looking for another bad guy in a blue coat?'

Yeah, that'd go real well.

Griff took a long sip from the bottle.

Griff Raley-Sinclair turned now to Caelum. Strange thing to ask someone who nearly just killed you. Griff lowered his drink, deciding to ignore the oddness of the question.

"I'd keep it blue, I guess." He answered with a shrug.

Griff Raley-Sinclair At the mention of spinning bottles, Griff looked down at the one in his fist. There was a brief moment of hesitation before he brought the neck back up to his lips.

"Well, I don't know about that .. " Raley-Sinclair emerged from his sip with a slight grin haunting on his face, "But yeah. Nice to meet you. Sorry about before. I'm waiting for someone, and as you probably saw - that someone is in for a beating."

All the obscure metaphysical stuff was above his head. He understood it, maybe, but not what relevance it had to what was going on now. Griff was a man who dealt with facts and realities - even in his world of paranormal law enforcement. He considered offering a hand for Caelum to shake, but thought better of it.

Griff Raley-Sinclair "Maybe a bit of both." Why was he admitting it? "I'll knock him out if I have to. There's an arrest warrant for this man about a mile long -- I'm sick of the goose chase."

Griff folded his arms across his chest. His fists were clenched. He felt the energy building up again, he wanted to Push something ..
