As calm as the approaching storm
Kara is a calm person. That is not to say she never gets angry- she does- but she is not the type of person to show her emotions on her face. She has trouble talking about her past with people; something she is working on, but has yet to overcome. Because of her tendency to not show her emotions on her face, she is often seen as intimidating and some would say frightening. However, those who do take the time to get to know her don't regret it. She is kind to everyone she meets, even if she thinks they are undeserving. She can be a right bitch when she wants to, but it's rare for her to do so. She has her opinions, and if you ask, you will get them- she hates sugar coating things, and will be as truthful as possible with people. She is an average student, with grades mostly in the B+ range. She is often lumped in with the nerds, though she is more of a drifter and prefers it to stay that way. She can hold her own in a debate, though she knows when to give in. She likes it when someone is witty and clever (after all, that is what makes life interesting), as she is that way and enjoys a good battle of wits.
She doesn't carry around much, usually just a canvas messenger bag that has a note book and pencil case in it at all times. She sometimes has some candy, and occasionally a bag of bite-size cheese Ritz cracker sandwiches. From time to time, the bag can be seen swollen with books (usually graphic novels)
Kara was born in New York City as the love child of a big name advertising CEO and his secretary. She grew up with her mother, Alya Smith, and her mother's boyfriend, Kevin Emelino. Despite this, she has a strong relationship with her biological father, Henry Wincester, and her stepmother, Francesca Thorpe-Wincester. She doesn't believe (nor has she ever) that her parents should be together- in her eyes, they are to alike to be in love.
As a little girl, Kara was very quiet and thoughtful- much like she is today. She never really was part of the crowd, and could usually be found by herself reading a book or silently crafting a piece of art. She didn't talk much, which concerned her parents, but as she grew older and became more involved, they decided she was just a late bloomer. When she started middle school, she was often made fun of, for her quiet demeanor and unassuming way of behaving. It wasn't until she snapped at a boy who was known for his belligerent nature, that people realized that she was anything but what they made her out to be. Her classmates began to actually talk to her, wanting to be her friends, wanting to know who the girl behind the stoic interior really was. By the time she reached high school, Kara was one of the more popular people in her class, yet she did not fall into the stereotypical clique of cheerleaders and rich girls (she was rich, but she didn't flaunt it; she is way more humble than that). Rather, she accepted everyone around her, even if they were ugly and dirt poor.
Her best friend of four years is RJ Sutherland, a boy who she has know for practically her whole life. They met when they were four, when Kara's father took her to one of the Central Park playgrounds. They played tag with a bunch of kid, but as the day wore on, they were the only ones left and became fast friends. As it were, they were enrolled in the same school, and since then, they have been hanging out. Most of Kara's fondest memories are with RJ, and the same could be said of him. Her other friends are Artemis Rast, a girl whom she met in her freshman year; Freddie Rast, Artemis's twin brother; and Julia Alvers, the only other person besides RJ whom she has known since before highschool.
