Name: Maria Raghild

Age: 1211
Species: Human, werewolf
Sub-Species: Ulfhednar
Place of Birth: Western G'ael, Terra
Current Residence: n/a

Maria is a human barbarian that hails far to the north from the lands of G'ael. She is an imposing and dominating figure with thick red locks of hair and steely grey eyes. Though taller in stature than is typically deemed attractive in a woman, her striking features could once have been deemed alluring; however, her looks have grown marred by the feral state that grips her, and the ragged scar that runs down the length of her neck from ear to sternum. Both hair and clothing are frequently wild and unkempt.

Afflicted with lycanthropy, Maria's war with her growing affliction has left what attractiveness she once possessed to slip away with each drop of her humanity. Even within her human state, the lycanthropy affliction seems to have taken root in her mannerisms and increasing instability. As is customary of her kind, Maria is strongly bound to the lunar cycles and forced into her werewolf state upon the night of the full moon; however, having been so overtaken by her affliction, Maria is also capable of releasing the beast within her during times of intense duress.

Maria is currently serving a penal sentence in the Aschen military.

Crouched on the ground, Maria's hands clutched at the thick red locks of hair that cascaded down over her face and her body shuddered violently. Rippling and bulging, her muscles seemed to tear free of the confines of her clothes and her skeletal structure began to re-arrange itself with the sickening sound of tearing sinew and cartilage.

Falling onto her back fur began to sprout along her skin and her muzzle elongated, fangs splitting free from her gums. Several minutes would pass before a lumbering hulk of a beast rose from the ground shaking itself off. Salivating excessively the animal tore free the remnants of clothing that clung to its russet fur. However, the heavy set collar and the remnants of broken chain links still hung about her to give the impression that the beast had either escaped or been let loose.

Tilting her head back she let out a blood curdling howl that cast an eerie silence over the area as the animals instinctively took shelter in their dens and burrows from the menace that had been left to prowl their wood.

Stalking off, the wolfbeast melded into the cursed woods.

Prowling the wood, Maria paused to scent the air lightly, catching hint of that which left her blood boiling. The stench of vampire. Of all the creatures that prowled the night, only the vampire did she kill for the pleasure of it.

Flashes of torment filled her head, fragmented and disjointed memories. However, the emotion behind them, the fear and the pain were as clear as the earth beneath her feet. She was free, and that loathed stench filled the night air.

Dropping to all fours she crept along, stalking that which few things in the world dared to regard as prey.

Catching sight of her prey Maria let a low menacing growl. The stench of decay filled the area, only further provoking her blood lust. Those of the Lessard blood line were well known for their prowess over the dead and their necromantic natures. The scent was a familiar one to Maria, and one that had more memory fragments filling her vision.

Flesh rotting from bone as she writhed and shrieked beneath their administrations. Agony of the sorts that she had never endured in her long years.

Overhead a cloud slipped across the moon to cast the shadowed wood into darkness. However as she rose up on her rear legs, the cloud continued on its way, leaving the moonlight to pierce through foliage overhead and silhouette Maria's imposing form in its silvery light.

Inhaling deeply she threw her head back and let loose a blood curdling roar that seemed to shake the air around her before leveling her silvery eyes on Charles. Taking a menacing step forward, the reek of her breath filled the air and thick gobs of saliva spattered from her muzzle to land at her feet.

Snarling loudly, Maria continued to approach, one menacing step at a time. The stench of the miasma filled her nostrils and deepened her snarls as she paused and shook her head to clear it. However generations upon generations of evolution afforded Maria a natural resistance to vampiric powers.

The dominating strength and speed of the lycanthrope, paired with such innate resistances left them a formidable force to contend with. It was no surprise that it had taken an entire group to wrangle her to the wood, even bound and restrained as she had been.

At last she stood before the vampire, towering over him, her breath heavy and heated as she sized him up. Vampires were predators, same as herself, and her approach was that of one predator sizing up another. Face to face, rather than ambush tactics.

At first, nothing seemed to happen, but then with a vicious snarl Maria swung her right foreleg outwards in a powerful backhanded blow towards Charles. The sweeping blow had a longer reach than the substantially smaller vampire and if it connected, would strike against his exposed right side with force enough to fell a small tree.

As the miasma crept up and began to blot out the moon, while his theory was sound, it would have only limited results. Having suffered her affliction for as long as she had, the beast had long overtaken her and she was no longer bound to the moon to retain her state.

She couldn't resist the call of the moon, but she didn't depend on it either.

Fortunately for Charles, the miasma did seem to mar Maria's line of sight on him, however, unfortunately for him, the feign would have limited results on Maria's animalistic mind. Martial combat prowess was a thoroughly foreign concept to the werewolf. And so the attack would come from the front.

However, as Maria bulled into Charles, and his arms encircled her furry middle, it would rapidly become apparent which was the physically stronger of the two. Rather than be tossed, she would essentially return the gesture, only pancake Charles between herself and the tree at his back.

If successful, the wood of the tree would splinter and give under the collision, dropping both of them to the ground - Charles beneath Maria's body, and unsettling close to her dripping snapping fangs.

Had Maria been a wolf, or even a human, the blow likely would have been fatal. However, unlike her counterparts, Maria's body was ripped with excessive muscle and sinew along with a powerful skeletal structure. In addition, the thick matted fur would serve to lessen blows.

The result would be a glancing hit, rather than the deep penetrative effect that Charles was going for. It would be painful, and while the hand did not penetrate through the ribs, his nails would inflict deep and painful lacerations upon her hide that drew fresh blood.

Planting his feet had slowed her momentum, albeit marginally, but in the dense forest it would still be enough to fell the trees in the area. Saplings were all but destroyed by the raging pair and one young oak tree was even uprooted in its entirety. Though, as the pair crashed to the ground, Maria let our an enraged roar of pain.

Snapping her jaws in a blind rage, she clamped them down towards his left shoulder before he could do anymore damage with his hand. If successful, in a perhaps not so comical reenactment of a dog with a toy, she would give the vampire a vicious shake before flinging him well free of her.

Maria was a predator, and an injured predator was a hungry predator. Charles' injury that he had inflicted upon her had her instinctively seeking to minimize further damage exposure.

Charles' fangs would be met with the large heavy set iron collar beneath her fur. A perhaps unpleasant discovery, but an interesting one to be sure.

Rearing up onto her hind-legs with a vicious whip of her head, Charles would be suitably sent airborne. However, rather than lunge after him, the wounded werebeast dropped to all fours to help distribute her weight better and to alleviate the strain on the injured tissue. It wasn't a crippling wound, but it was enough to make her think twice about a second head on approach.

The saliva from her maw had turned crimson as it spattered at her feet, but she would let the vampire come for her this time.

The reek of decay was still in the air, bringing a low snarl to her lips. Taking a few menacing steps forward she sought to provoke a response out of the vampire, be it fight, or flight. However, it would seem the latter was the case.

Had she not been wounded, Charles' retreat would likely have provoked her prey drive and driven her to pursue him. But as it stood, she would take her victory. Rising up onto two legs once more, she threw her head back and bellowed out a blood curdling roar that would roll through the woods like thunder.

The message was clear for all to hear. Her claim to these woods had been established, and beware any who trespass.

Stalking along Maria paused to lower her snout to the ground, snuffling lightly at the trodden earth.

This whole wood reeked of vampire, a stench she could not abide. The very odor burned in her nostrils causing them to flare angrily. The vampire was the only creature that she hunted for the sheer pleasure of it. Such was the hatred that burned in her veins.

Every scent of vampire drew up flashes of past torments through her mind. Fragmented memories that were difficult to reconstruct, but the pain and the fear were real. Pain she would return ten fold to every vampire that dared tread upon these woods.

Rearing back she threw her head high and belted loose a bone chilling howl. Let it hear her. Let it know what awaited it within these woods.

Maria moved through the woods with astounding speed and agility for her massive bulk, but so long had she suffered her affliction that there was little humanity left to her anymore. The beast within had all but overtaken her, leaving her a creature of instinct and aggression.

Each step had the scent growing stronger in her nostrils and her breath grew heated, thick saliva spattering the ground as she moved. He was so close she could already anticipate the fresh spill of blood.

And just like that, the werebeast seemed to erupt out of the wood to land across Luhan's path with a skid that tore up the earth and splintered fallen branches and tree bark beneath her claws. Rising up on her hindlegs, she towered over the substantially smaller vampire and let out a blood curdling roar. However she didn't attack just yet. But rather, she seemed to be sizing him up as thick gobs of heated saliva dripped from her maw and the reek of her breath filled the air.

The beast likewise seemed to be waiting for the vampire to make a move, though as he stood his ground, Maria took a single menacing step towards it, lowering her head as she hunched to get a better look at him. By this point he could feel the heat of her breath on his face as she let out a low menacing snarl, staring him dead in the eye.

Luhan's choice to run seemed to spark something off in Maria as it triggered her predatory instincts. It was running, and that made it prey. Coiling her muscles she leaped after it, closing the gap quickly with her substantially larger size. The vampire would have one advantage, and that was the density of the wood would allow him passage where it might not otherwise allow her.

That is if it could shake her enough to utilize such tactics. A single bound had her over-top of and skidding to a halt in front of the vampire once more. Blocking off its path of escape she spun and slashed a foreclaw across towards his chest.

The blow could well have been fatal to a human, but perhaps not to a vampire. If it hit, it would leave deep rends in his flesh, and send him hurtling off into the trees somewhere to the left.

Luhan would have scarcely time enough to right himself before Maria was upon him again, this time jaws snapping closed for that which was closest to her, his left leg. Fangs rend into flesh and the audible crack of bone filled the forest under her vice like jaws, and in a perhaps not so comical reenactment of a dog with a chew toy, she gave her victim a vicious shake of her head. However, in her frenzied state, and her large size, she was causing a great deal of damage to the forest around them.

The splintering of wood and the crack of tree branches could be heard all around. Dropping the no doubt battered vampire back to the ground she leaned in for the kill, but something jerked her back. The remnants of the broken chain links that still hung from the heavy set iron collar around her neck had become entangled.

Straining against the entangled chain she snarled and snapped her jaws for Luhan, but they would fall inches short, and she instead turned her outrage upon that which had her immobilized. And given the sheer ferocity that she subjected the surrounding trees to, it likely wouldn't take her long to free herself.

Maria's head snapped back around as she made a last ditch effort to grab the vampire, but her claws would fall short, leaving deep rends in the earth at his heels. Redoubling her efforts she attempted to lunge after him but was again pulled up short and in a moment of outrage she threw her head back and let out a blood curdling roar, with fury enough to shake the trees around her.

Prowling the wood, the sound of a gunshot in the distance brought Maria's head around as she listened to the echoing boom roll through the woods. Normally such a sound would have driven all manner of beast into hiding, but Maria did not fear guns.

Changing route she stalked her way through the woods, drawn to the sound of gunfire. However, Maria was a cunning and wily beast and she took the extra time to circle around the vicinity of the gunshot, to approach downwind.

Carefully scenting the air, she caught the smell of vampire, a stench she could not abide. The very odor burned in her nostrils as they flared angrily. It was faint though, as he had already departed the area to roam the woods.

Pausing she lowered her snout to the ground, snuffling lightly at the abandoned shell casing and the gun he had dropped upon the ground. Both reeked of vampire, bringing a curl to her lips and a low snarl. Having taken the time to circle around downwind had brought her up behind him.

Moving on, she kept her head low to the ground, following the scent of his footprints, though occasionally lifting her snout to the wind to make sure she was remaining downwind of her prey. Her last two encounters, while fruitful, had left her wounded and she was more cautious this eve than in nights past. Unlike the others, this one boldly traversed these woods and blatantly drew attention to itself.

Maria was closing in on her prey, and well within earshot as he began to shout through the woods. Such a bold challenge nearly drew another snarl forth as her lips curled back, revealing a vicious array of fangs. Catching sight of movement ahead, she froze, thick gobs of hot saliva dripping from her maw to land at her feet.

Her nostrils flared once more as the scent of vampire grew stronger, leaving her blood boiling within her veins. Such was the vehement loathing she harbored towards the creatures. She couldn't rationalize it, far too long had she been overtaken by the beast within, but the fragmented memories, disjointed as they were, still drew up old emotions of pain and fear. Pain of the likes she had never endured before. Pain that she would return ten fold to any vampire whom dared cross her path. They were the one creature that walked the night with her, that she hunted and killed for the sheer pleasure of it.

Coiling her muscles, she sprang into action with the loud splintering of wood as she closed the distance in the span of a moment. However, anticipating that Marriotto would turn to face his attacker, upon landing, she sprang high, clearing the vampire to land on the opposite side of him.

Skidding to a stop she turned to slash her left foreleg across for his hopefully exposed back. The blow could well be fatal, had he been a human. But for a vampire, perhaps not so. However, it would leave deep bloody rends in flesh should it strike.

Not only would Maria pursue the vampire, but coiling her powerful muscles, she launched herself into the air to collide viciously with the side of the tree, just over Mariotto's head. Branches snapped under her weight and clawed hands splintered and tore at the thick bark beneath her grasp. Turning in place and braced against several stronger branches, she managed to head Mariotto off.

Inhaling deeply she let loose an ear splitting roar that would carry with it the reek of her heated breath, only a scarce foot away from Mariotto. Another vicious slash of her claws would rend and tear, splintering branches and bone alike, should Mariotto be caught in its path.

It was fast becoming apparent that Maria was not simply a behemoth. She was fast and powerful, with speed and strength to rival that of the vampires she so deeply loathed. Perhaps it is why their kind feared her so greatly. Though this realization was lost on Maria, as was the nature of their time-old conflict. Her actions after all, were born of pain and torment, not some ancestral vendetta.

Maria didn't really give Mariotto time enough to taunt her as she was once again airborn almost simultaneously to him. Launching from the tree, she dove after him, colliding with the ground only a pace away with a devastating impact that left deep furrows in the earth from her claws.

Rearing up on her hind legs, she let loose another powerful ground shaking roar and again raked her claws across the form of the smaller vampire. Dodging her for long would prove difficult given her greater speed and strength. Not many would opt to take a werewolf head on after all, and Mariotto had abandoned his gun earlier that eve.
