A junior detective for Wing City Police Force, Maria is used to dealing with drug based crimes. However, Maria has been moved to general criminal investigations now, and, whie she waits to be assigned to a senior detective, is working the beat on her own, working on cold cases.

History

Maria grew up in the slums, in an extraordinary family full of talent. It all came to a crashing halt when he family was murdered for their hereditary abilities and she and he twin Halo were the only survivors. That day, Maria saw the need for good cops in Wing City. While he brother turns to music and drugs, Maria turned to getting a degree, and police work.

Maria Zhang frowned at the body of the man, laying on his side, curled up tightly. All indications promised a human killer. The seven marks, in a rough oval, about an egg shape really though. Those had been found in the string of murders on women. The pose too, was similar, but not quite the same. Still, it looked like the killer that was being murmured about had struck again. No way they'd be able to keep this quiet for long.

Maria sighed heavily. This was ridiculous. How were they supposed to catch the person responsible, if their victimology changed this much? The previous killign were all young, scantily clad women. This was an older man, with children crying out though, who was in business casual attire.

Maria Zhang stared at Isiah and raised an eyebrow. Had he just tried to? With the latest illegal? Every single time she was in this place, she swore. "Elysium, huh? What's it do?" She asked. "How do I know that you even have it on you?" She said. It certainly sounded interesting.

But dangerous. Besides, she had seen what drugs did to her brother.

"I say it sounds like some sort of narcotic." She said. "And it sounds like you're dealing a narcotic." She smiled and stood up, taking out her badge. "To the wrong person. Sir, you are under arrest. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of law. You have the right to talk to a lawyer and have him or her present while you are being questioned. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed for you before questioning if you wish. You can decide at any time t exercise these rights and not answer any questions or make any statements. Do you understand each of these rights I have explained to you?"

She wasn't narcotics any more, but she had been. And she really disliked dealers. Weedy disgusting people.

"Nope." She said. "Already under arrest." She pointed out and took out her handcuffs. "Please don't resist arrest sir." She said and put a hand on his shoulder. "As it is, I'll have to call forensics over." She shrugged. "Now. If you'll consent to the handcuffs for everyone's safety?" She smiled politely. Maria tried to be nice, she did, but he wasn't about to get away.

"That's nice." She cuffed him and sat him down in a chair. "Ma'am I'm going to have to ask you to step away from teh evidence." She informed Ngaire. "And please get your magic under control. If you can't manage that, I have to ask you to leave so the evidence won't be tampered with." She called for a forensic team, and suggested hazmat suits. If a bouncer at Gambit's was nervous, then she was nervous too.

Of course, the magic was disconcerting, but she was trained for disconcerting.

"Seriously?" She sighed as her partner arrived, and took Isiah into custody, though they didn't leave just yet. Forensics were on their way, but wouldn't be able to process anything if the woman destroyed it. Her eyes were on Ngaire. "Ma'am, please. I don't knwo what wrong, but I strongly suggest a visit to the mage hospital if you're having troubles with your magic, and it appears you are."

She sighed. "Ma'am. I'm ordering you out." She said simply. "Go to the mage hospital, tell the the name of the drug." She insisted. The mage hospital, ironically, had magic suppressant weaved into the very walls of hospital. She glanced to cryoface. "You too!" Damn. Isiah was taken out to the waiting car.

Forensics was here but wouldn't enter a life scene.

Oh God. Occupational Authority. Maria smiled to the officer. "Officer Kinsington. I am, though I was off duty at the time, waiting on my brother who..." She checked the time. "Likely won't be showing." If he was high, she'd dropkick him into a jail cell. She'd check later. "If you have any magic users or constructs with you, please keep them out. There was a dealer peddling, tried to sell to me soon as he saw me. On being arrested, her dropped the vials of the liquid drugs." She nodded to the small puddle behind her. "It's airborne, effects magic users. From what I observed, a magic user lost control of her magic. I advised ehr to go to the hospital, and she is on her way." She hoped. "The bouncer had to leave as wel, for liekly similar reasons."

"On his way to the stations. Forensics is on their way." She glanced outside. "Well. If he's alive he's on his way." She pinched the bridge of her nose. "Look. I can't budge until Forensics comes. Could you see what just exploded?" Damn protocol. She was far more interested in the fact that the car might have exploded. Her partner knew better to wait on her. Forensics took ages.

They finally entered and she wondered why she tried, stepping away as they marked the evidence and marked off the scene, where they could.

Just in time. She really hated this. "Right. Explosions. Work here is done." She said, signing the scene off to the nearest forensics team leader and heading out the door. She had to walk to the station.

Maria walked in, with her new partner. Rules said no one entered Gambit's without a partner. Patrol said they had to glance in at least once an hour. All apart of the new 'Keeping Wing City Safe' initiative, concocted thanks to some rich guys mansion blowing up.

Psh. Maria never liked this.

Richard glanced over the bar and sighed, walking over. "Cryoface right? I'm not normally on the Gambit's Beat. Well I wasn't." He shot Maria a look. Maria adopted a faintly apologetic look and jutted her jaw out stubbornly.

Maria frowned. "Let me guess. He tried to steal alcohol from behind the counter?" 'Please don't let it be magic beans. Please don't let it be magic beans.' She chanted in her head.

Last time she was in here to deal with magic beans, there was also a bar fire, and no one could find the extinguisher.

Maria reached for the drug, only for Richard to cover his hand with her own. Oh. Right. She pulled an evidence bag out of her belt and created a sort of glove from that, taking the vial from Cryoface that way, sealign the bag, and writing down the pertinent information on it.

Richard listened to what Koe said and shook his head. "Look. I don't know who, exactly, you are, or what, but you were in possession of an illegal drug. You can explain everything to my superiors." Richard shrugged at this. "I have to arrest you. It's just doing my job."

Maria carefully ensured teh evidence was packed in a small stabilizing evidence box and smiled at Cryoface. "I'll be back to interview you later Cryo. Thanks."

Maria smiled. "Oh of course not sir." she said politely. "It's going straight to the evidence locker, while Richard processes you. I'm sure this won't take too long." She said and opened the door for the two. Richard stopped Koe t the door and put cuffs on the man so he wouldn't be dangerous inside the squad car and led him to the vehicle.

They had to investigate everything, after all. And Possession was a seriously offense. Bare minimum the man would have a rather large fine.

Sh called out. "I'm back for you statement about the magic beans!" She called over the counter, hoping he would come out from where he was.

Maria nodded to him an smiled. "Alright! Thanks Cryo. We don't really have much to hold the guy on, but he's going on trial in a week. I doubt he'll be in serious trouble." She admitted. "Probably just a fine." A big one, but that was it.

Richard came over, having been listening and recording everything. "Are you done Maria? I want to get out of here before the trash decides to come over and talk." He said.

"The hell!" Law declared. Nervously, MAria watched before swallowing and walking over to Randin. "um, Randin... I'm sorry but, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say or do can and will be held against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you. Do you understand these rights I have just read to you?" She said quietly, then hurried on quickly. "I'm sorry! But you can't just taze someone, like that, not without identifying yourself. It's against the law, and I have to, and I'm sorry!"

Law went over to back up the very, very, very brave junior officer. "Assault Kaye. I can't believe what I just watched you do." Actually, he could. He honestly could. Kaye took matters into his own hands far too often.

Maria gasped and went for her handcuffs, ready to arrest Randin for murder now, even as Richard was on the phone with emergency services. Not that it would do any good. They wouldn't come into the bar. The aschen woman was dead. He could tell from there.

Maria took a breath. "For...for assault, and for murder you're under arrest. I'm.. Randin...." She whispered, in shock, even as she reached for his wrist to cuff his hands. "I'm sorry." She said and cuffed the cop, tears in her eyes.

Richard swore. "They'll send an ambulance to the entrance, but won't come in the hot zone."

Maria hesitated and Law put a hand on Randin's shouldr once the other had fetched the medicine. "Kaye. If you don't show up at the station in an hour, I'm putting a warrant out for your arrest." He said simply.

"Zhang. Come wih me. Now." He grabbed Maria by the wrist and pulled her out of Gambits.
