Mirror

Mirror is never herself, in the company of others. Her appearance alters itself to match that of any she chooses, and it is only when she is without company (that she is aware of) that she will assume her true form. She has little understanding of emotion

Description

What is there to know about a being that is never itself unless alone? What appears in a mirror when the light is out? Mirror is true to its nature, taking whatever form pleases it, and whatever persona suits the moment. Its gender varies, but it seems to spend the majority of its time in a female form. Its purpose is unknown, some believe its life is one of whimsy, others suppose it has some greater purpose to its being. Only time will tell which is correct.

So begins...

Mirror's Story

Mirror moved. She did not walk, walking far too mundane, clumsy a term for the supple and flowing manner in which she travelled. Her form was like liquid, flashing over the paving stones, the sunlight bouncing off of her skin and illuminating her like the human image of an angel.

The being approached the bar 'Gambit's', her gaze resting on its door, though any who saw the depths of it would know she saw much more than simple wood or stone. An arm reached out, touched the door, and it opened - the wood itself stepping back to allow the radiant being passage. There in the doorway she remained, pausing for a while before she would continue.

Mirror moved once more, flowing over the boards of the bar's floor, poised and graceful. Her blank gaze fell on the patrons as she moved, considering them, pondering them. Her reflective skin gave her an odd appearance, seeming almost to vanish at times, whilst at others standing out like a sore thumb.

Mirror turned to look at Diana and chuckled, shaking her head. She flowed closer, and turned to look at Kisa, as if waiting for something.

Mirror reached out a hand, touching at the air in front of Kisa, her gaze still on Diana "Safe, to keep her safe. Responsibility, protectiveness. Anger, hate, vengeance against him, what he did. Not her too." she said, her eyes flashing. Her posture subtly altered to match that of Diana, her features moulding to the other's.

Mirror tilted her head, more and more resembling Diana with every passing moment. "Confusion, fear. Who is she? Why is she doing this? Protectiveness, strong, prevailing against sense. Pride, determination. I- she can do this..."

Mirror tilted her head to the side, her face matching Diana's scowl. "Fear, becomes anger, confusion and panic. Violence seems only course, base functions, barbaric. Mould to suit purposes, profess desire to protect, assume role of heroism." she spoke slowly, her body moving with Diana's as if she were truly a reflection in a mirror. And she was, in fact - simply not in the traditional sense.

Mirror "Seek safety behind walls, physical or metaphorical. Human psyche plain to see, looking beyond undead outer shell, no real change from life has occurred." she continued to recite in a monotone voice. From her form sprouted eleven tails in the exact shape and manner of Diana's, forming a reflection spear wall.

Mirror 's attention seemed to shift then, as if she had finished with Diana, and focused upon Kisa, peering back at her with the same curiosity that she peered at her. Her appearance began to shift again, shifting from that of Diana towards that of Kisa herself, the spear wall receding. Mirror trailed her new focus, passing the spear wall, melting through it as if she were made of liquid. "Curiosity, who is she? Why is she here? Confusion, translated as desire to learn."

Mirror "Irritation, let go! Complacency, innocence, naivety. Trust, kindness." Mirror spoke, copying Kisa's movements, though she was not held back by anything. Her features shifted till she was Kisa's lookalike, the only difference being a slight metallic sheen around Mirror.

Mirror "Excitement! Glee!" Mirror exclaimed, copying Kisa's movements and expressions opposite to her "Name? Wish to know its name, it does not understand. Name a mortal concept, it simply is."

Mirror nodded towards Kisa "Curiosity, why? It does not understand 'why', it simply does, it is natural." she said, tilting her head "Wonderment, how? Emotions are not hidden, it sees them like an open book, bold words on a blank page."

Mirror "Purpose, purpose is a mortal term - it does not have 'purpose', it simply is." Mirror replied, "Doubt, disbelief, aching, saddened by memories. It sees what they feel, now, not what they felt then."

Mirror tilted her head "It does not understand. Emotions, feelings that form in response to an event. It sees these, they form, they fade. It does not understand what the one named Kisa speaks of. It wonders, what are nightmares?"

Mirror "Illusion, it understands illusion. Nightmares, dreams, they are sleep illusions?" she said slowly, "Pain, sorrow, it senses these. It does not see the reasons, sometimes they fade to the background. Emotions of the moment, reactions, they are stronger, more visible. Old emotions fade, it cannot see them as well."

Mirror was taken aback by the hug, but did not liquidate. Hugging Mirror was akin to hugging a glass sculpture, cold, smooth and solid. "Affection, cheer, bravery. It does not understand this gesture, nor know the response."

Mirror "Amusement, kindness, happiness. It does not know, 'hug'. It has little experience of mortals, it has yet to learn. How does it respond to 'hug'?" she asked, tilting her head to one side.

Mirror awkwardly lifted her arms to return the hug "Patience. It returns like this? It does not feel happiness, sadness. They are things it observes in others, it experiences them through others, not itself."

Mirror flowed into the bar, her reflective, silvery form seeming almost liquid as she moved across the floor with the utmost grace and beauty. Every inch of her skin seemed to be moving, with the light of the lamps reflecting off of it, and all the being's surroundings reflected in it.

The being's steps, if they could rightly be called steps (the term does not portray the poise and grace with which she moved), took her to the center of the bar, where she stood as if waiting for one thing, or another.

Mirror looked to Isis, tilting her head to one side "Happiness, kindness, generosity, giving." she said, her voice monotone. She took the box of chocolates, peering at it curiosity "It does not understand, you give it this gift with good will, but it can not see what the purpose of this object is."

Mirror continued to peer at the box curiously "It asks again, what is the purpose of this object?" she said to Isis.
