The arena was barely lit, a single spotlight shining on the middle of the room. There Sonia stood, a duffel bag in one hand and a laptop in the other.

Other than the immediate area around Sonia and the lights from the control booth the whole arena was pitch black. Anyone with a fear of the dark probably wouldn't enjoy it much.

"You're right on time, love." Sonia told the young woman, gesturing her over. "I need you to put something on for me. I need to take in your stress levels, emotional readings, the speed of your strawberry tart." Sonia said, furrowing her brows a for a moment.

"Your heart. That's what I mean by strawberry tart. Hanging with the Hornes has got me thinking I'm in the UK again." The woman said with a chuckle.

"I don't think you'll have to take your shirt off." Sonia said, "You can if you want, I'm not going to judge." She joked, placing her bag down. "Inside are few bands, they have chips inside and the like. Put one on each wrist, there's one for your head and one for you left or right bicep."

Sonia pushed the bag closer to Amariah with one foot. "I do hope you're ready." Sonia said to Amariah before she turned to walk away. It didn't take long for the woman to disappear into the darkness of the room.

The spotlight would shut off. The darkness wasting no time in washing over Amariah. Soon the lights would come back on. Amariah finding herself surrounded by what appeared to be jungle.

"This isn't real." Sonia said over an intercom, "But it's going to feel like it. I'm sorry in advance." The woman said, "Also, we have about four lions coming your way. Welcome to Mother Africa."

As Sonia concluded her words the bushes would rustle, the menacing purs from a small group of the jungle's most fearsome predator heard as they approached.

"I already said I'm sorry." Sonia told Amariah over the intercom. Those words probably explained very little or explained it all to Amariah.

She wouldn't have time to figure out which one. A lion leaped from the foliage, attempting to pounce on top of Amariah.

The lion turned to Amariah, it almost seemed taken aback by the fact that she was able to move fast enough to avoid him. It began to pace back and forth. Big brown eyes watching the young woman.

Suddenly it pounced again, determined to capture Amariah this time.

The lion, being a lion, seemed unfazed by the kick. It swiped at Amariah just as the other two lions emerged from the foliage to join in on the attack.

There was Amariah, alone and surrounded by a group of lions. All of them capable of tearing her apart if it was real and if it was real it seemed she would stand no chance.

"It's fight or flight." Sonia said over the intercom.

"Whoa." Sonia muttered to herself, glancing to her team in the control room. "That spiked. Like... a lot." One of the researchers told Sonia.

The lions seemed to have been knocked out cold of killed, but soon the simulated lions disappeared. The jungle followed soon after and all that was left was a big white room and bleachers for observers to sit in.

"That's all we'll be needing for now." Sonia said to Amariah over the intercom. "I was hoping you would forget it wasn't real, that got us genuine results."

Results that far exceeded what Sonia expected. Amariah had potential. It was probably best not to let anyone outside of the organization know and hope that Lochlyn kept such information to himself as well.

"No. No, you did fine, love." Sonia told Amariah, "Just take those off and throw them... anywhere." Sonia said, "I'm on my way down. I'll take you home or... to The Palace, I think you were staying there with John."

Sonia was almost sure they were an item, but the cop in her noticed too many things that pointed to Amariah and John not being involved. Still, she could gossip. That was something.

Anodyne and Sonia stood in the middle of the arena, members of the Invictus, friends, family and others interested sitting in the stands and speaking amongst themselves.

Sonia paced around Anodyne, poking the woman's crimson armor. "Seems to be in order." Sonia said to Anodyne, "She'll be here soon, I hope. We can begin once she arrives."

"You're right on time." Sonia told Amariah, "This here is The Ripper, you can call her Anodyne. It's a more pleasant name." Sonia said, gesturing to Anodyne.

"You're going to be fighting her. Mostly. More like she'll move and keep on moving and you'll try to hit her." Sonia explained, a man in a black suit stepping out into the arena with a metal box in hand. The man quickly approached Sonia, handing her the box.

"Based on my last little test I've created something for you to help keep your abilities in check and making them a little more... focused until you can focus them yourself."

Sonia opened the box, two white gloves and a black choker inside. She soon extended the box to Amariah, "The choker was John's idea. He even paid for the ruby in it." Sonia said with some emphasis, "You two seem very... friendly." Sonia added quietly.

The gloves were slim, not too think or bulky. Comfortable for most people and seemed to be streamlined by circuits.

Anodyne nodded to Amariah, her way of greeting the younger woman. "Anodyne can take more than a punch, I've given her armor that has sensors and indicators inside. I'll be able to see the amount of heat, pressure and so on that results from your blasts and whatever else you can manage to pull off." Sonia explained.

"The choker there supresses your abilities, making it harder to lose control if you don't want to. It's not perfect, you can still lose control, but this should make it easier to learn over time without accidently blowing up a few blocks." Sonia said with a chuckle.

"Try to focus your blasts, the gloves act as minicannons." Sonia said as he made her way towards the control room. "I hope you like big cities." Sonia said, the room's simulators begin to work their magic.

Soon several skyscrapers and buildings began to appear, empty cars, trucks and other vehicles littering an empty street. A replica of an empty Manhattan.

"You're the hunter, Amariah. Hunt." Sonia said over the intercom.

"Please?" Sonia asked Kane as she and her team set up their equipment. "Where's Liz?" Kane asked, "Can't she help you out with this?" The Irishman asked Sonia, "I'm not really fond of beatin' up on little girls to test out yer' theory, Professor." Kane told Sonia.

"It's not beating her up, it's testing her skills. It's safe, mostly. And, I'll pay you." Sonia told the Irishman. He didn't seem to budge, payment wasn't enough.

"I'll set you up on a date with Yuriko." Sonia added, but still the Irishman didn't say anything. "I'll set you up on a date with Yuriko and I'll pay you.?" Sonia asked, "I'm gay." Kane answered.

"Try something new!"

"I'm trying to find a strong replacement for Anodyne. So far, this Irishman wants to be... stubborn." Sonia said, gesturing to Kane. "This here, Amariah is Sean Horne. Mostly called Kane. Kane, this is Amariah Conner." Sonia said, introducing the two.

"Conner?" Kane asked, "Ya' got some Irish in ya, darlin'?" Kane asked Amariah, her last name seeming to have made him curious. "There's a big lack of Irish in this city who ain't with the Caseys or bein' harrassed by 'em."

"They're an Irish crime family." Sonia told Amariah, "Nasty blokes, especially Sean, Seamus and Brian." Sonia informed the young woman, "They've been involved with a lot... of pain and misery since they've arrived. Anyways, enough about them. Meet your sparring partner for today."

"I never agreed to do it..." Kane noted, "But I will, for the lass." He said, turning to Sonia and holding out a hand. The woman picked up a sword, tossing it to Kane. "I know it's not like what you usually use, but it's only for the test." She said as Kane caught the weapon.

"For you, Amariah." Sonia kicked a black metal box across to Amariah. "Gloves, choker, boots and an earpiece." She told the young woman, "The choker and gloves are much stronger than the last ones."

"We're all in the stands watching, including John. So... try to... stay under control." Sonia said, pointing towards John was seated.

"We've chosen a place that fits you much better, Amariah." Sonia said as she and her team began to walk away from the scene. "Kane, put on the gear." Sonia told the man before continuing to the control.

Kane rolled his eyes and put the sword down, grabbing an armored plate from the ground and quickly slipping it on. "I don't really want to wear this, but... it's for the greater good." Kane said.

"Yeah! Ireland! We're awesome!" A man shouted, "Donnie, we haven't even started yet. Shut up." Kane called out to the man, shaking his head. He then picked up the sword, holding it at his side as if he wasn't worried.

"I'll go as easy as I can on ya', but that's still pretty hard, love." As the Irishman spoke the area around them began to change. It seemed to be a meadow, a wooded area surrounding out. Green grass, a nice cool breeze.

Kane glancing around for a moment, "Home?" He asked himself.

The door to the room opened, Sonia and several young scientists making their way in. Sonia headed straight for Maria upon seeing her, the others heading to their stations around the lab.

"I do apologize." Sonia told Maria, "They obviously put you in here due to a... temper and strength that could put a lot of innocent people in harm's way." Sonia said.

"I'm Sonia Hughes. Formerly of the UK's SIB, but I turned back to my first love of science several long years ago." The Englishwoman told Maria, "Enough of my life story, I'm going to let you out. Before I do... promise me you'll control your rage."

"The wolf-mind? Nothing." Sonia said, "But, the mind of a woman scorn? Quite a bit. I used to be a cop, after all." Sonia told Maria.

"It doesn't matter what you change into on a full moon or any other time, you're still a person most of the time. That means your human thoughts are still there." Sonia explained, "I'm no psychologist, but being a cop was the next best thing."
