Brief History: Torrie had a wonderful life; she had just graduated from college and the world ahead of her. She knew that she was progressive for her time: a woman of the 50's shouldn't be pursuing a career, nor should she be unmarried at her age. But what did she care? She would find a husband eventually, just not then. At that is when it all went to hell. Her parents, determined to not have their only daughter become an old maid, set her up with a boy from her neighborhood.
Gerard appeared to be smart, handsome and sweet; anything a girl could want. Unfortunately for him, Torrie didn't have the same idea. She was not fooled by his charm and wit, and resisted all of his courting attempts. She simply was not interested. Then one night, as she came home from the part time job she held at a little bookstore not to far from home, she met him in the street. He was obviously very intoxicated, and tried to take advantage of her. She escaped, though barely, and made it home, wracked with fear. She told her parents of this incident, but they thought nothing of it, merely passing it off as a misunderstanding of his actions. From that point on, she never went out by herself, and made sure she was never alone with him.
However, a few weeks later, she was with a group of friends, having a grand old time near a look out point over the Hudson River. Everything was fine until Gerard showed up, looking to speak with her in private. She was hesitant to accept the offer, the events of weeks ago still fresh in her mind. Still, her friends gave her the space, and she was left alone with Gerard. He began to tell her of all of the things he liked about her, plead with her to love him back, and become his wife. And yet again, she rejected him, firm in her decision from the beginning. Angered by her constant rejection, Gerard seized her by the arms, and began shaking her in an attempt to coerce her into marrying him. But one shake was two many; he accidentally knocked her head against the metal of the safety railing, killing her almost instantly. The only thing that she could think as she slipped into darkness was how she wished she could start over, and that maybe she wouldn't have been so unlucky.
