a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by CelticCat

Description

Normal Appearance:
Image

Demonic Form:
Image

Name: Ula (Uh-lah) Siofra (Seeo-frah)
Age: Appears in her early twenties (Countless centuries in reality)
Gender: Female
Basic Description: A descendant of the Celtic "Asrais" line of fairies, Ula is lithe and tall with an extraordinary air of grace and beauty hanging about her. She is also found to be dripping constantly, her clothes and hair always soaked full of water. It's easy to tell where she's been, as her foot prints leave small puddles. Her toes are slightly webbed, but she hides this when in her humanesque form.

Major Abilities:
Water Mastery: Her kind are rumored to be simply sentient water, and as such, any body of water that is touched is under her command when she is in a "pure form".

Minor Abilities:
Attract: Male Humans (and to a lesser extent female humans and humanoids) find themselves with an insatiable urge to capture or touch the Asrai. However, either would be fatal to the Asrai herself. It is an innate "ability", though acting as more of a curse, and is in no way under her control.
Chill: Another innate ability is that her touch can permanently chill the skin of humans so it never feels heat again. Too much exposure to this ability may cause death, as any exposure to extreme cold.
Personality
Personality: Understandably timid towards people she doesn't know, very shy and quiet. She tends to be compassionate and protective of those she does know well, but those are few and far between.
Warnings: Direct sunlight or being captured cause her to die and her body to dissolve into a pool of water.

History
She lived most of her youth with her sisters, hidden in a grove deep within Ireland. However, as humans began to become curious about them and encroach on their land, they fled in all different directions. She's had no contact with another Asrais for more than a century, though she may have found haven...

So begins...

Duke's fingers laced. He hadn't moved, hadn't even flinched as Ula created the mist and probed the nature of his curse. He seemed very at home with others being invasive.

His eyes were determined, but dark as before. Perhaps moreso.

"I have nothing to lose."

Ula opened her mouth as if to say something more, but she simply shook her head and moved towards him. I suppose I don't, either, she mused to herself. She hesitated as soon as she was within arm's reach, but scooted slightly closer before taking a steadying breath. She reached out a hand, the pointer finger aimed to press on the center of the collar. Her eyes glowed faintly again and she struck out with her magic, the intent to splinter the spell first and then negate each fragment individually.

As Ula worked on the spell, she would feel something that was, at first, uncomfortable. It gave off the sensation of being watched, or having someone stand right behind you after you'd just turned around. The more parts of the spell she unraveled, the more hostile and sinister the feeling became- whatever was watching her meant harm.

And the more the dug, the closer it got.

Ula's eyes began to twitch as she pressed more of her magic further into the object, working as quickly as she could manage. She hadn't take on as daunting task as this spell in centuries and she could fell her powers weakening. She would appear to break out in a sweat, but then her entire body began to waver.

Her breaths came unsteadily as she felt the presence creeping in around her and again she hastily tried to force more of herself into the process. The fear she felt every time someone looked at her with that desire to capture was rising in her. The threat of death was almost in her mind.

The last threads of the curse began to unravel, and in doing so, Ula did more than she bargained for.

Much, much more.

There was a hollow moan through the air as a breeze whipped through them, putting the fire out entirely and scattering its debris. With the wind carried a thousand whispering voices all rapidly chanting, growing in volume, consuming noise as they converted to cries, welling into screams. Oh! The soulless, famished screeches of something so inhuman, so shudderingly and completely without mercy...!

And then it stopped.

The silence was immediate, abrupt, and out of place from the racket for a few moments. Duke was left slightly dizzied from the state change. The only noise left was the feint fwup as the collar fell from his neck to the ground.

A last breeze floated by, whispering to Ula, I do not like you.

Ula's hand fell to her side with a heavy sigh as she felt the last of the curse fade, but her relief was very, very short-lived. She closed her eyes and trembled at the sounds only opening them with that last breath as her eyes -- full of fear -- fell onto Duke.

"It appears your curse-weaver does not stand idly by..." she said softly, her voice weak. The breaking had taken a large amount of her strength and her form was wavering softly. Bits of her skin, cloth, or hair were briefly becoming see through and an incessant dripping coming from her hair and chin. "Your favor has been fulfilled, then. I hope it is as you wished."

Duke took a quick glance around, as if suspecting whatever had left him from the curse was still around. Once he'd swept the area, he gave his attention to Ula, who looked as though she were coming apart, ever so slightly. He stood up, reaching out his hands to grab her shoulders, but stopped. That wouldn't do at all.

"Are you alright?" he asked, tone less urgent than his eyes betrayed. "I didn't realize."

Ula instinctively flinched back from his outreached hands, losing some of her balance, and catching herself with her arm. "You didn't need to," she assured him softly, shaking her head. "Don't waste thoughts on me, I simply require rest within the pool under the moonlight." She moved as if to stand, but her left leg suddenly fell apart into pool of water and she returned right back to her seated position with a small cry of pain.

Duke's eyes shot open. He knelt before her, his hands out, but not touching her. "What can I do to help you?" he asked calmly. Calmly, but his eyes still panicked. "There has to be something I can do. I can't just sit here and watch. Tell me there's a way to help you."

Ula's eyes stared longingly at the pool and she seemed to stay quiet for a while, almost as if she hadn't even heard the question.

"I can't move to the pool like this. I'm too weak. However, if...if there were a proxy between us, like your weapon...If I hold one end, you could drag me to the edge of the pool. I'm very light, so it shouldn't be too much of a strain."

Duke nodded silently and moved to pick up his glaive. He flipped the end up with his shoe and caught it in the palm of his hand. Holding it toward the bladed side, he motioned the hilt toward her.

"I'm very strong," he said. "So it's not something I'd worry about otherwise."

Ula shifted her full weight onto the remaining leg and wrapped her hands around the hilt of the proferred glaive. At first, her wavering solidity seemed to allow the weapon halfway into her hand before she focused energy into her hands, enough to keep a firm enough grip to be dragged with. She took a steadying breath and closed her eyes.

"Good...Then I trust you'll be able to make haste."

Without another word, Duke lifted the glaive and the young girl... spirit. Without much of a hassle, he was able to carry her over to the pool, and plopped her in there gently. He knelt next to the water, watching her.

"Better?" he asked.

Ula slipped silently under the surface of the pool, her body appearing to melt away completely. After a few minutes, two legs appeared above the surface of the waves, kicking slightly before she pulled her shoulders and head up as well. What bits of her body remained underwater were see through, blended into the water seamlessly.

"Much better. Thank you very much. By tomorrow night, I believe I shall have regained my full strength." A delicate smile played across her features.

Duke patiently waited at the edge of the pool, though there was a moment of anxious shuffling when she took a while to reappear. It seemed he had been holding his breath for the relieved sigh he made when her legs kicked out of the water.

"More of those monsters will show up before then. I don't believe you'll be able to take care of them from what you said earlier," he told her. "I'll stay guard."

Ula stared into the sky, her eyes unfocused. "I can hide through the day. The creatures don't find me while I'm completely underwater in the pool. I'm just...stuck here." She settled the side of her face on her arm and crossed her ankles.

"Where are you going?" And an unspoken Can I come?

Duke nodded, "Understood." and sat at the edge of the bank. He was tired- incredibly so. He couldn't remember how long it had been since he'd last slept. This was a common thing, though, wasn't it? Getting a good night's sleep meant nothing was going on.

"Not Wing City," he answered Ula. "Not Terra. Not Sozo. Somewhere new. Different."

Ula seemed to think his words over for a while, pulling herself into a sitting position, covered in water from the waist down. "Different sounds nice..." she mumbled quietly, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "Could I go with you? My magic wanes with the moon, but I could make myself useful to you. If you wouldn't mind taking your rest during the day..."

She was desperate to leave, but her voice kept its even, calm tone.

Duke's gaze was fixed on Ula, his features stiff. He was very still, like a gargoyle, for several seconds. Then, steadily, he took the glaive and laid the haft across his chest.

"I am... deeply... indebted to you. If you would like to follow me, I shall guard you," he rumbled, never taking his stormy blues away from her face. "We will leave as soon as you are prepared."

Ula's face lit up in a smile, jumping up a little from the water with excitement. "Thank you! Thank you so much, you can't imagine what this place does to one's mind after so long..." The last few words were whispered, almost fervently. "I'll be ready to leave by sunset tomorrow. I'm not sure where would be a safe place for you to rest until then, unfortunately." She twirled a loose strand of hair around her finger.
