A manipulative, savvy assassin working for whoever pays the most.
Maria could quite accurately be compared to a cobra; alluring, yet deadly. She is an expert in the art of manipulation, having honed her skills for years now. A dangerously unpredictable creature, Maria is; with her knack for containing what she is really thinking and manipulative nature, she rarely has to resort to brute violence to carry out her job. The scary thing is that on first glance, she seems harmless. Selfish and infuriatingly condescending, maybe, but not genuinely dangerous. How very wrong those poor, unintelligent souls are. Or, more accurately, were. See, lying is another uncanny talent of Maria's. Her skill at it is such that she is able to spin wholly untruthful tales without the bat of an eyelash, and even the most intelligent of individuals find themselves believing her. Cunning, seductive and determined, one would be unwise to cross Miss Gallo.
Maria isn't like other assassins, in the sense that she does not particularly delight in gruesome, bloody deaths. On the contrary, she finds them vulgar and, frankly, a sign of little finesse. So Maria's methods often fall under the "cloak-and-dagger" category, if you will. The subtle slipping of poison, stealing away in the middle of the night, things like that. This being, she usually doesn't need to be heavily armed. A single dagger kept in a thigh sheath is usually all she carries, as well as a handful of choice poisons.
Maria comes from a life of infinite mediocrity. Her family, made up of her parents, her brother, Marco, and herself, was never far above middle class, always scrimping and saving and just getting by. And Maria, even though she was in the exact same situation, resented them for it. How could they live so contently, when they had virtually nothing? So, believing that she was destined for better things, Maria left her family as soon as she could find a job of her own, helping out on a small vegetable stand. It wasn't much better, true, but at least she was an independent woman.
It was at first through desperation that Maria began work as an assassin. A man by the name of Bernardo Rossi was willing to pay for someone to be killed, and Maria believed she had the skill to do it. And when she discovered that she did, indeed, have the skill to do it...well, let's just say that she now has the blood of more than one man on her hands.
