Personality

Generally appearing to unenthusiastic about what's going around him, Shikamaru is a serious ninja when it comes down to it. When on missions, it becomes apparent that he is one of the most mature people of the Konoha 11 with a strong commitment to his comrades. Shikamaru is also a strategic genius with an I.Q. over 200, able to plan ahead even in the midst of the most dangerous missions. His sensei noted that if Shikamaru had the desire, he could become Hokage, but he wouldn't really like it. Despite being slightly afraid of domineering women like Temari, Ino, and his mom, Shikamaru maintains a generally chivalrous attitude beneath his laziness, avoiding fights with them and doing favors for them.

History

Shikamaru grew up as the heir of the Nara clan, which is close to both the Akimichi and the Yamanaka clans. Thus, he's known his former teammates, Ino Yamanaki and Choji Akimichi, all his life. Thus, it came to no surprise when they were placed together in Team 10 under Asuma. Despite his lack of enthusiasm as a genin, Shikamaru's maturity and intelligence caused him to be promoted to Chunin after his first Chunin Exam. This new responsibility along with the realities of ninja life caused Shikamaru to mature rapidly, though still with a lazy demeanor. When his sensei died, Shikamaru was affected deeply and along with Choji, Ino, and Kakashi, tracked down Hidan and Kakazu. Eventually, Shikamaru fought Hidan alone and buried his immortal, dismembered body in his clan's land, avenging his sensei. He participated in the war with Madara's Akatsuki and often works with Ino, Choji, and Sabaku no Temari, with whom he is close despite them being from different villages. He now has a genin team, something he finds troublesome but satisfying.
