A warrior and secretly a fire-bender...
The first impression one may get of Anita is tough, defensive, and secretive. She does not trust anyone much, unless they have proven themselves to be a loyal friend. Perhaps if one is lucky, she might open up to them… And maybe find that she’s not as strong and confident as she makes herself out to be…
She has a small backpack to keep her necessities such as food and water in.
She uses a sword as her main weapon (even though she can fire-bend). Refer to her history for more details on the reason.
A scabbard hangs from the leather belt around her waist.
Anita was born within the fire kingdom, to commoner parents who owned a farm. Her mother passed away (for reasons she does not know) when she was only four, leaving her and her younger sister (who was one at that time) in the care of their distraught father. Despaired and greatly saddened, their father turned to drinking and gambling. Thus the responsibilities lay heavily upon Anita.
She worked hard to maintain the farm and keep her remaining family together. She doted on her younger sister Arina, who looked up to Anita as a mother figure. Ever since she was born, Anita had the ability to fire-bend, although she kept it secret from her family. She taught herself some techniques in her spare time, stealing books from the village library.
Although it was difficult, Anita’s fierce determination kept their farm alive financially. She performed odd jobs here and there, earning just enough to keep her family living. She began to hope again, even though her father’s sanity was fast deteriorating.
Then one day, when she was thirteen years old, her dreams shattered when her father lost a reckless gamble, losing their whole property and all their belongings. In desperation, she sold herself to the military of the fire nation, vowing to work as their servant in return for a place that could cater her family’s basic needs.
Anita’s fire-bending became soon revealed and she became trained by the masters of the art. She soon became a fire-bending master, a great asset to the military. She also learnt the art of the sword, hoping it would come in handy. Although she had to work hard, she enjoyed the thrill of the power of fire-bending. She occasionally visited her family, but she began to drift apart from her sister and her unstable father, preferring to work on her newest moves. Many visits once a month turned into few, and a few visits soon turned into none. Soon, the existence of her own family only barely lingered in the back of her mind.
After years of training, Anita was sent on her first mission, a raid in a nearby village, who had set up a rebellion against the fire nation regime. She was of course eager to fight. And so she did.
At first, she was ecstatic. The feeling of power within her hands was brilliant, and she shot flames and sometimes lightning in all directions, harming all who got in her way. She killed one woman with a well-directed lightning. The woman fell like a rag doll onto the ground. Smirking, Anita moved closer when she heard a familiar voice calling her name weakly. Her smirk faded, replaced by a look of sheer horror.
She had shot down her own sister. Anita’s name was the last word Arina ever spoke.
It was then that Anita realised the horrors of the chaos around her. What was she doing here? What were they all doing here, hunting down innocent people? Her eyes had finally opened to the terrible truth.
For the next couple of months, Anita brooded. She minimised her fire-bending as much as possible, the power reminding her too much of the murder she had committed. After much thought, she made a decision.
She escaped from the military base. But not before destroying many of their expensive weapons, their carefully scribed scrolls full of invasion plans, killing many of her fellow soldiers she had known for years in raw fury.
And so she ran away. To find a better place.
Her heart is set on foiling the Fire Lord’s regime once and for all. She’s also determined not to fire-bend, instead using her sword skills in times of danger, unless it is absolutely necessary. She doesn’t really know what she is searching for, but she is determined to do anything to achieve her goal.
