h a i r x // xHawke's hair is silk-fine and is the same deep brown he shares with his twin brother, often slightly messy from his habit of running his hands through it.
e y e s x // xHis eyes are dark brown, gaze heavy with responsibility before his time.
o d d i t i e s x // xHe sports a few scars, not from skirmishes that were his own doing but by his attempts to keep his brother out of trouble with the guardsāa few over his back, shoulders, and knuckles, and one behind his left ear where he split his head against a doorway once. He has a mole under his right eye.
a p p e a r a n c e x // xThough Hawke and his brother aren't identical, they share the same pale, clear skin and dark hair and eyes. Hawke looks the more tired of the pair, having lived his entire life for the others, with more lines around his eyes. He can't be bothered to try to keep himself clean shaven, the process taking up entirely too much of his limited free time, so there's always scruff around his jaw.

t e l e p a t h y x // x Hawke's basic ability is to access others' thoughts. He is able to hear and see targets' thoughts and emotions, which get louder and clearer the closer they are to him. He is also able to project his own thoughts into their heads, creating a private conversation no one else can hear. He's also learned to use himself as a sort of conductor to project others' thoughts through himself to create a telepathic group conversation.

Sometimes this isn't met with much gratitude. Sometimes this results in him getting hurt.
v l a d x // x Even if he's friends with the others by virtue of them being the only people he knows, Vlad is his brother, and he'd do anything for him, which is why threats against Vlad are often more effective than threats against Hawke himself.

l a c k x o f x p u r p o s e x // x Hawke's spent his entire life translating for and protecting his brother, as well as doing what he can to keep the others out of trouble. While he would never resent Vlad or any of his friends, he fears that he has no purpose in life beyond looking after them, for as long as they live in the facility.

s e n s o r y x d e p r i v a t i o n x // x Since he's so used to all the sounds and visions from being in everyone's mind, voluntarily or otherwise, he was once put into a sensory deprivation chamber in the furthest corner of the facility, away from everyone. He emerged in such bad shape that it was marked as for use in extreme cases only; he's afraid of ever being locked into that chamber again.

P E R S O N A L I T A T E
xxxxxxxxxxxxā¢ x protective x ā¢ x pacifist x ā¢ x stoic x ā¢ x discreet x ā¢
Of all the troublemakers in the facility, Hawke is the most reluctant of them all, unwilling to draw attention or hurt anyone unless it's absolutely necessary. While he won't shy from pushing the boundaries from time to time, unlike some of the more obedient ones, he tries to do so in a way that ensures no one gets a trip to the electrocution chambers. Well, alright, he's not so much a pacifist as he is someone who doesn't like unnecessary punishment, but it still stands. He doesn't want any of the others hurt.
For someone who can access thoughts and emotions, Hawke is remarkably reserved about sharing his own. His lips are often bitten through and his palms carved with little crescents from his nails, but he doesn't like to outwardly express his pain, partially because he doesn't want to scare the rest, partially because he doesn't want to appear weak in front of them. It's easy to tell when he's clamming up, though, because he's often pale and short with his words, preferring not to talk until he's feeling better. It takes an incredible amount of trust for him to open up about his thoughts, too, and even then he tries to downplay them to avoid revealing everything.
He's more suspicious than he lets on of the facility, and unlike the others who outright ask questions they shouldn't even be thinking he's more adept at poking through minds to find little puzzle pieces to fit together. He's almost perfected his ability to probe around minds without being detected, which makes for easy espionage. Still, the scientists know what he can do, and they have their own precautions, but that hasn't stopped him from finding out more than he probably should. He hasn't shared anything with the rest, but he's pretty certain that it's not anything they're going to like.

Hawke doesn't think he's ever known a day without Vlad. Abrasive and rude he may be, but they grew up together and Hawke knows him better than anyone else doesāand the other way around tooāand he's always believed that Vlad is a good person. Beneath is all is just his brother, lost and defensive, pushed into becoming a man too early by his circumstances. Hawke lives in constant fear of what would happen to Vlad if he weren't around, and though it's slightly patronising he knows no one else will ever be able to translate for and protect his brother the way he does. This is why he fights to live on without bearing any grudges against Vlad.

Aside from Vlad, Novak is his closest friend, the one person he can count on to always be there for him at the end of the day. Through their snark and curiosity, he can see their worry, both for themself and for the others, and he feels like they understand his own concerns best. He's afraid to further burden Vlad, but Novak is always willing to listen to anything he wants to say. Linking himself to Novak's mind is easy, since he's done it so many timesāmost days they let him watch their drawing, the two of them just sitting together in silence, pretending that everything is fine. If Vlad is Hawke's motivation to live, then Novak is the one who makes life worth living, putting that extra little spark in his day.

Of course, Hawke can always hear what Ivy is thinking, but he does wish that she would tell them herself. She's complicated, sad, and infinitely interesting, and sometimes just hearing her thoughts isn't enoughāthey explain what, but not how or why. He knows she doesn't always reveal everything, knowing he's listening, but he tries not to pry too much anyway. He's hoping for the day she trusts him enough to tell him what she thinks. For now, he's content to be the friend that she needs, unless of course the day finally comes that she successfully escapes, likely to leave the rest of them behind.

If Hawke's the father of their weird little family, then Specter is probably the babyāthe youngest and most energetic, although certainly not under any illusions about their circumstances. Hawke finds him engaging, and loves encouraging him to share whatever he's reading for a bit of entertainment. He knows how Vlad feels about Specter, but ignores it in favour of occupying his time by learning alongside the boy, sometimes opening a telepathic connection so Specter doesn't have to read out loud to him. Hawke feels a sense of duty towards Specter, to keep him youthful and innocent, and he'll be damned if he's letting the facility take that away from him.

They all have their own ways of managing their situation. Ivy attempts escape bimonthly; Novak has a smart mouth; Specter reads about worlds they'll never see; Vlad gets angry at everyone; and Hawke pretends that he's taking care of them all. So he never grudges Hanne for her choice. She's certainly not his favourite, but she's sweet and empathetic and tries again and again, so he does what he can to keep Vlad off her back. She's always willing to share her learning with him, and has helped to heal him on a few occasions after nasty run-ins with the guards, so she's a good kid in his bookāif a little misguided.
