Novice Daughter of Isabella
Esther is highly closemouthed, and some people actually hold the (mistaken) belief that she is mute. She gives away very few clues as to the sort of person she is, save that initial impression of stoniness. She moves quietly and unobtrusively in whatever she is tasked to do, and accepts the orders of her senior sister without complaint. For whatever reason, she seems to actively seek to go beneath notice, and often succeeds. If one looks closely enough, though, a number of more subtle things become apparent. Most notable among these is her proclivity for sharp observation; it seems as though she comes to know the people around her quite a bit sooner than they know much of anything about her. So, too, though, it becomes evident that her silence is not so much one of coldness as it is of uncertainty and something of a meek personality.
That said, she does not often allow this to hinder her in a fight. Despite being a novice, it is not without the proper training that the Daughters send their own out into the hunt, and Esther is surprisingly both swift and stronger than one would expect, though neither of these traits is anything supernatural. Like some of her order, Esther is capable of some level of elemental magic, particularly with water or ice. Rumor has it that her medicines and poultices are somehow better or work faster than others' as well, though unsurprisingly, she refuses to comment on this.
Aside from her cross, Esther carries at any given time a number of pouches of herbs and other medical supplies for basic field care, as well as a full waterskin, both for magic and emergencies. A total of four well-made silver knives, each engraved with a symbol for a cardinal direction, are squirreled away on her person: one in each boot and two at the small of her back, hidden by cloak and vest. These she throws with precision, but they are long enough to serve as melee weapons of the situation calls for it, though she's not too comfortable with this mode of combat, or close ranges in general. Though she can shoot a bow, she does not carry one.
Esther Randoval grew up in a family of minor nobility on the fringe lands between Aldania proper and those abodes given to what remains of the Anorians and the Werewolves. From an early age, she found herself unsuited to the life that this meant for her, simply because, though intelligent, she did not easily grasp things like political machination. Having both an older brother and sister, she was essentially an extra heir anyway, and had no desire for the fate of those, pawned off in political marriages or what-have-you.
Her family played host to a Daughter of Isabella when she was twelve or so, and for reasons that are still unknown to her, the woman chose to recruit her into those selfsame ranks. Esther was not at all displeased by the idea; those on the borderlands were more than aware of the rumors about the sisters, but unlike the nation at large, held no particular reservations towards them. Her parents put up a token resistance to the idea because she was still quite young, but in the end the acquiesced without real complaint, and she was taken to the nearest convent the day after.
For the next few years, she received the training the cloister had to offer her, and devoted herself to it, showing promise from an early point. She's only been on a few field missions thus far, and never dealt with anything worse than a Bloodling. She is uncertain of how she will fare against things more dread, but has decided for them moment to place her faith where it belongs and trust that she will survive if she keeps her wits about her.
