Aaric Lahabiel

"My brother was the real protector..."

a character in “The Vampire King Comes to Town”, as played by black-as-night_oni

Description

Aaric Lahabiel- 'mercy, angel who protects against evil spirits'
Image
Age:
Time does not exist within the heavenly realms, but Aaric has a youthful face and disposition. Her physique, on the other hand, could be anywhere from her late teens to mid-twenties. But Aaric's human body appears to be nine.
Gender:
Aaric's true gender is female, but due to an unfortunate mix-up, her human body is tragically male.
Race:
One of the Seraphim, Aaric is a six-winged angel.
Appearance:
Perhaps Aaric's most notable trait (one would have to be blind not to notice), are her luminous blue eyes. They are brimming with the unsaid emotions of the innocent, and anyone who looks upon them feels that if they peer for just a little longer, they might be able to glimpse the gates of heaven.... In fact, they could if the looked long enough. For this reason, any person that falls under the category of 'evil', or 'black hearted' will be unable to meet Aaric's infallible gaze.
In both of her forms, the Seraph possesses grey-white hair, pale skin, and a seemingly weak petite body (her azure orbs go without mentioning, of course). However, that's about where the resemblance ends, not counting similar facial structures. Aaric's human form has short, fluffy, grey-blonde hair that falls endearingly into his eyes. His face has a sereneness uncharacteristic for his supposed age, often confusing those he meets. However, he possesses a certain angelic smile, and the power it has for winning the affections of others should not be underestimated.
ImageMeanwhile, Aaric's true form also possesses fluffy grey hair, but since it's much longer it's less cute, and resembles a lion's mane. In fact, if one was to run one's hand through the ashy locks, it would feel like one too! Aaric, known as the 'lion of heaven' (for obvious reasons) also has a pair of lion-like canines, and something about the way she moves vaguely resembles a lioness. Her celestial energy visibly leaks from her rather skinny form, the colors depending on both the mood she's in and the ability she's using. Aaric's wings are rather unusual for the traditional angel, as they are red with a lighter shade of red spiderwebbing through them. Made of energy, they are featherless, and by themselves they would probably look pretty terrifying. But when you match them with the non-threatening Aaric, the ominous appendages easily pass off as harmless.
Now, if Aaric wore the traditional garb of angels, the true appearance of her physique would be shown off (moderately shapely, lean muscles, taller than she looks). But, unfortunately, the angel only dons those clothes on occasion, instead preferring to wear clothes that are more comfortable, even if they make her look much younger, shorter, and skinnier. Aaric generally wears shawls or short capes, with fingerless gloves (for better grip). In her female form, her shawls are lined with fluffy material, and her multi-layered dresses look as if she's dressed for colder weather, and are distinctly European. She wears knee-high leather boots, and tries to add something to her sometimes dull-looking hair. However, due to the many layers, ribbons, and lace, they are extremely difficult to fight in, so Aaric usually wears something easier to move in if she knows a brawl is coming.
Her human form is far is dressed far more simply, with a soft (and warm) blue and white short cape, over a blue leather half-jacket (going down only to the bottom of the ribs) that laces in the middle, has wide sleeves that fall an inch or two past his fingers (to keep them warm). All of this is over a white cotton t-shirt, and grey cold-weather pants connected to the shirt with a pale blue sash the width of his palm.

Personality:
When one first looks at Aaric, the first impression they get is of someone who is very, very afraid. The fear is not directed at anything in particular, and that tends to puzzle some. The angel moves timidly, with a certain sort of frail grace to her cautious movements. Since Aaric's brother died on earth, she is consequently extremely frightened of the foreign planet. Human emotions are overwhelming to a hypersensitive angel, and the mannerisms and cultures are unfamiliar. For example, 'aggressiveness' does not exist in the celestial realms. If someone were to pin her to a wall, Aaric would be like a deer in the headlights, for the standard for all the males she has been around was 'gentlemanly'. Some of the angel's fears a more comical; there are no bugs in heaven. But despite her rampant fear and shyness, Aaric confronts her inhibitions as often as she can, her powerful curiosity giving her the drive she needs to do so.
For all this, Aaric is a passive girl, having a policy to not make a big deal out of things for the sake of keeping peace. She is very low maintenance, and prefers to take care of herself, instead of being coddled. Though Aaric may not look it, she is as sharp as a tack, and is very clever and excellent at reading people. It's as difficult to earn real trust (Aaric trusts all living beings to an extent) as it is to shake it once it's been made.
Though angels are as free with their emotions as the next race, they are notorious for their stinginess towards forging relationships with others. Now, Aaric loves making friends, but she is surprisingly guarded when it comes to letting people into her inner circle.
To sum it up, Aaric is an agreeable person, who is likable, but can be boring thanks to her passiveness (though her reactions to things have the potential to be amusing).

Now for the next part of Aaric's personality, where everything here is literally unbreakable. For all of her plainness, she has a remarkably strong set of morales and values. But those pale in comparison to the amount of importance Aaric places on her 'purpose'; her reason for living, the thing that will take her beyond her personal limits into the deeper sort of strength that comes from existing for something greater than oneself. You see, Aaric was born to protect people, specifically from evil spirits. That was the reason she was created, and it was with that knowledge in mind she was raised. Her passive nature goes up in flames when either her values or purpose is invoked, and a whole new side of Aaric (her true self) is revealed. You can easily tell why she's called 'the lion of heaven', with her   controlled ferocity, and unstoppable determination.

Abilities:
First of all, her clear sighted gaze is Aaric's only ability to be passed on to her human form. When Aaric transforms, it's in burning flash of light, effectively blinding foes momentarily. In fact, if any onlookers are particularly evil, they may have all of their senses snuffed out for a few seconds.
Now, as an insubstantial being, objects belonging to the mortal world will faze through the angel (which is actually the main reason Aaric needed a human form in the first place), so only supernatural methods of attack will be effective (so basically any character in this game can attack her).
Remember the power that leaked from her true form? That's called life essence, and it's the angelic equivalent of mana to a spell caster. Life essence is required for everything, from blinking to flying to swinging a weapon. As an angel created to protect against 'evil spirits', any creature that falls under that category will be severely burned if they come in contact with Aaric's holy energy. Aaric's angelic body is constantly creating a steady amount of this energy, and unless she is engaging in some sort of strenuous activity, its almost certain there's gonna be some surplus. When there is surplus, that's when evil spirits don't want to touch her. The energy is also good for absorbing, then being used to heal wounds or to supercharge an attack.
However useful, this 'life energy' moves slowly, often forming a comet-like tail behind Aaric as she moves around. So if she is moving around, she is not surrounded by her protective aura, and that's where evil spirits have the opportunity to land hits. All in all, it's a rather simple, yet effective system.

But despite all of Aaric's power in her true form, she has one extremely crippling weakness. As 'the protector', Aaric cannot access her celestial powers unless someone other than her needs to be protected. In other words, if Aaric was attacked, and she was all alone in her human form, he would have about as much defense against a foe as your average nine year old boy.
Weapons & Armor:
Aaric has no official armor, relying instead on her protective aura to protect her. However, she most certainly has weapons. Starting with her natural ones, Aaric's rather sharp canines have fairly good biting power, and bites may be fatal to the weakest 'evil spirits'. Her 'claws' have around the same level of offensive power.  Now, remember Aaric's scary wings? Well, one would be a fool to touch them. Like her protective aura, they will burn evil beings, though the wings will give wounds that are more difficult to heal from, and continue raining pain even if the wound has been patched up. So yeah, just don't touch the wings.
Aaric's 'official' weapon is a scythe, made of an extremely strong silver alloy. Now, this is an instrument of precision, sharpened to a deadly edge. The blade siphons off of Aaric's life energy, so it too possesses an aura like her own. So even if one dodges the razor edge, one would still have to be wary of the fiery streak following after.
History:
Aaric was created into a family whose purpose was to protect against evil spirits, and she was born to follow in her ancestral footsteps. She had normal parents and an older brother, whom Aaric adored. Aaric had a rather uneventful childhood, except for maybe the fact that she was one of the few female angels, and Aaric knew only one other girl her age. But when Aaric was just starting to grow in her adult, permanent wings, disaster struck. Her brother, who had been away protecting the mortal world, had died in combat, his foe claiming his life energy. There was a widely spread rumor saying that angels were beginning to be hunted down, pursued for their vast spiritual stores of energy. Immediately, the angels on earth were commanded to return to heaven. And so it stayed that way, the holy host disconnected from the advances of humanity, until one day a threat on the mortal plane was perceived. A powerful force was stirring, one with an unknown potential for evil. So the celestial beings turned to the one who was in charge of investigating such events; Aaric. Of course, she had been training all of her existence for that purpose, but nobody had really thought she would be required to take her brother's job so soon. But you know, a human had not been created to host a holy being in the longest time, so there were bound to be some mistakes....

So begins...

"Lahabiel! Hurry and get in line, please!"

Aaric pushed his white-blonde hair out of his eyes, and hurried to catch up with his class. Once he was in reach, the boarding school teacher swooped down on him.

"If your going to wear that silly half-cape over your school uniform, you best be buttoning it up correctly!" the middle-aged woman scolded, bending down to rebutton the nine year old's clasps. Aaric smiled agreeably, embarrassed to have messed up the buttons in the first place.

"I- I'm sorry Mrs. Janice... I al- always mess up the buttons..."

Mrs. Janice smiled, then patted the boy's pale cheek affectionately. "Don't worry, you've only been here three weeks, so it's understandable that you'd get some things mixed up."

Aaric gave a shaky smile as a reply, retreating into the crowd of twenty or so fourth graders. He brought his hand to his cheek, small fingertips leaving cold trails on his chilled skin. He would never get used to the casual touching that went among humans; even as the boy thought that, he strained to keep his shoulders from touching the other kid's bodies.

Angels rarely engaged in physical contact, and only then if it had a specific purpose. Aaric sighed, finally giving up trying to avoid the others, and opted for slinking towards the back of the crowd where the chance of being touched was lessened.

Aaric's class was going for it's daily walk through the streets, which the physical activity of the day. His small, indoors boarding school was still saving up for and outside play area, so until then the elementary schoolers had to make do with walks through Elkhunt's hub for exercise, even if they were at odd hours.

Aaric stopped his absentminded walking and looked up, expecting to see his class deciding on the day's route-

But they were nowhere in sight. Struck by confusion, Aaric looked about his surroundings wildly. It seemed that he had accidentally taken a wrong turn at some point, and now found himself in the outskirts of Elkhunt, where the residential area brushed against the ill-reputed forest.

The human swallowed, his gaze drifting towards the said forest that wasn't too far away. Aaric was scared that if he moved, the people who would eventually come looking for him wouldn't be able to find him.

Clearly in distress, Aaric realized his facial expression might make someone come and talk to him, so the boy quickly put on a serene look, and casually sat himself against a nearby fence.

Suddenly he noticed an odd group of people nearby. Aaric instantly froze. Become the fence... I am the fence...

"All I want isss a Goddamn apology from that insssolent elf!" He yelled in a fury. He was in a dangerous position here, being so outnumbered it was likely we would be killed. Sahlidain was feeling something that he had never felt before, fear. Not for himself, but at the thought that he was alone in the world. How many are left? Are there any? He thought to himself. Though he did not show it he was terrified by the thoughts.

Sahlidain was trying to calm himself down now. "That elf insssulted me. Isss it not alssso polite to apologize to a ssstranger after making an insssult?" He was calm now, smiling at the elf, expecting diplomacy now. He caught a sense as he spoke with his tongue. Liking his lips more he had only one thought Angelic. Frowning he mentally cast a spell to spot the creature to send a telepathic message. "You should not be here Angelic. Sssome may wish you to fall, as would the bloodsssucker. You may come here, there isss no reassson to fear usss." He telepathically told the angel.

Kul raised an eyebrow feeling a jab at him about this darker form of magic, if he wanted to he could have corrupted the forest and cause the deaths of untold billions, it was because he did not want to do all this, but look at him getting worked up by a jab by a young elf who had probably no experience with undead. "No, its magic much like mine." Kul said as he was pretty sure what was causing the corruption, the vampire. Both were creatures of undeath, and he had personally trained more then a few vampires in the necromantic and black arts. His magic gave off the same general feel as some of Kuls more.. soul tearing spells, but this vampire seemed to be doing it more instinctual then with any real training, which was interesting. Perhaps he was self-taught? He would be far more powerful if he had been taught tricks from Kul's black book as the powerful body of an elder vampire with all the knowledge of the first Lich would be nearly unstoppable.

"Don't get worked up. I never insulted her, she is young and passionate and with that comes a level of hard-headiness and streak of stubbornness. It is a very common thing and nothing to be ashamed of. It is good to be passionate." Kul said, a joke? Didn't seem like a joke to him when she was screaming at him for hurting her tree and enslaving her people in the past. "Was the screaming part of the joke? If so, I may be getting too old for the newer humor, but if you don't want a fight, it would be best not to call the man, who is obviously prideful, a child." He said patiently. Kanaye? What a strange name, and who was he? Well, it did not really matter as it was probably just another boy.

"If you learned a little of my art, you would be able to heal your forest." Kul said with his eyes closed, "But you won't wish to, I am sure. Elves never seem to like the concept of controlling life even if it is to bring something dear to them back to life." He turned his head and spotted a small child pretending to be a part of the fence, at first he assumed the child was merely playing, but something was off about the boy.. but it was not his concern as it was not his business, "Well if there is going to be no fighting, I think I will be going to the book store like I originally intended, unless there is something else that I am needed for?" Kul asked.

Aaric had heard the telepathic call. "You should not be here Angelic. Sssome may wish you to fall, as would the bloodsssucker. You may come here, there isss no reassson to fear usss." He froze, gripped by shock. How... how did he know!? Noticing a man coming his way, Aaric pressed himself even further against the fence. The man had been the one to send the message, Aaric was sure of it. He seemed like the type who'd hissss. He seemed not to notice the little boy, but the nine year old had suspicions otherwise. Aaric was torn. He desperately wanted to meet this person, but at the same time self preservation warned him of talking to strangers while being in human form. After a moments hesitation, Aaric spunk over to the bar entrance, not sure how to procede from there though. He could walk in, but would be thrown out before accomplishing anything useful. The boy could stick his head in, but Aaric didn't want unneeded attention right now. Suddenly, an idea came. The man must have been able to sense him before, so if this guy was the same man, he would know that Aaric had followed him. The human, satisfied with this idea, waited outside the bar.

The burning water was terrible and did not pack the punch he was looking for. Sahlidain forced his gold out of the bartender, liking his lips to get the water off. He picked up that Angelic smell again. Perhaps the immortal wanted an audience, perhaps just a coincidence, but he was mentally preparing a spell either way. It was done.

"Ssso Angelic. Why are you here?" He mentally asked as he left the bar, not bothering to look around but instead just walking straight into town. "No need to rush to follow. I ssset up an empathy link ssso travel behind me by no more than ssseventy five feet behind me. What isss a boy like you doing ssso far from the heavensss?" Sahlidain asked.

"Ssso Angelic. Why are you here? What isss a boy like you doing ssso far from the heavensss?"

Aaric swallowed, and jogged after the strange man. The fourth-grader's legs were no match for the stranger's lanky ones, so Aaric was forced to keep up the pace. The angel didn't see any point in keeping his intentions a secret, in fact the more supernaturals knew there was an angel in the area, the less likely there would be a chance of humans getting hurt.

Sending the words mentally, he responded, "I'm just here checking the place out. The Holy Council sensed that some stuff is going to happen here soon, so they sent me."

But the tall stranger had gone. Aaric blinked. He had been looking right at the man... Had he teleported? The nine year old frowned. Rude, but he probably had his reasons for doing so....

Aaric began walking back the way he came. He knew this part of town, so he could probably.... Suddenly a wet substance streaked down the boy's pale cheek. Aaric's finger shook as it rose to catch the liquid. It can't be... The angel had this sick feeling, something that he could feel from his very soul. Wide blue eyes stared, horrified, at the red streak on Aaric's hand. Blood? But why would he be.... Realization pierced through Aaric's well-being, as he finally understood what was happening.

Angels only cried blood when the worst kind of disaster struck.

Leli hopped out of the car, smiling bitterly. It was time for her to get somethings done. She went sprinting through the town, heart pounding, when she saw a small boy standing, staring at his finger in shock.

"Hey, kid!" she yelled, and ran for him, eyes darting around, "Kid, you should get home! Here, I'll take you ho--" she froze suddenly, seeing blood streak his face. "Oh my...holy crap, kid. You aren't normal, are you?" She knelt beside him and smiled softly, looking deep in his eyes, "So tell me, kid, what are you?"

Aaric looked at the girl blankly. He was shaking, and he didn't know what to do. There was something very, very horrible happening nearby, and he was supposed to help, but didn't know what to do or where to go. For an angel, crying blood is an extremely unpleasant and unsettling experience. The boy took a deep breath. I have to pull it together. If I don't calm down, and think for a second, I won't be useful to anyone. I have to figure out what's going on.

For the first time, his clear blue eyes came into focus. Aaric stared back at the unfamiliar girl, meeting the red-honey gaze. After a few seconds, he broke into a shaky smile. This girl... she's very pure-hearted and noble. I can't help but like her. "I- uhm, I...." Then the reply died on Aaric's lips.

The angel's eyes were widened in pure shock and horror, looking over the girl's shoulders. The small boy's body started shaking, and he stepped past the girl and began walking forward. For in front of him, there came a steady creep of blood spilled on the streets. "Dear God...." As if in a daze, the small boy walked forward, his school shoes soon drenched in red. He neared the corner, knowing that behind it there would be the cause of all this blood. But peering around the corner, Aaric saw only... more blood. How much is there!? Aaric furrowed his brow, and went back to the girl.

"I'm an angel, and I'm here to protect people." His eyes locked on hers. "I was born to slay evil spirits, and this" -he gestured to the oncoming redness- "is definitely the work of said evil spirits." Aaric faltered there, his gaze flickering away. "Look- this is the first time I've had to fight in the mortal world. Normally I do my job on the other planes, and in the human world the rules are different. Humans are different, and I don't really know what to do. I've never had to deal with moving around in another skin before, and-" He paused, sucking in a breath. "I'm ranting."

Aaric stretched his nine-year old hand, and touched the stranger's shoulder, looking the girl in the eye once more. "I really really need help right now."

Leli could do nothing but nod. An angel? Well, stranger things had happened. She closed her eyes and let the transformation run through her body quickly, wincing slightly as her bones crunched into new positions, her muscles tore and mended in new places. Soon, she stood merely as a large Bengal tiger, whiskers twitching at the irony smell as the blood steamed in the streets.

"Grab on, kid. We're going straight for him." She crouched down and nudged the boy, letting him drape across her back, and took off in a dead sprint, paws sending up sprays of blood with each step she took. As she neared the church, a growl tore through her throat; Vlad was really doing this. He kicked a man off the roof, who luckily was caught by another girl.

Leli came to a pause in a doorway and turned to look at the kid. He was definately worried about EVERYTHING. "Kid," she panted, forcing herself through another shift, human with large, leathery bat wings, "I need you to get into the church." She slowly worked him into her arms, and glanced up at the roof, and swallowed nervously, "Get somewhere we can heal for a little while if we're hurt, and gather some more fighters."

Putting the boy down, she pushed up and flapped to the rooftop, staring in horror at the vampiric man. She touched down, noticing for the first time her legs and hands were coated in blood. Feeling sick, she reeled slightly, but stayed standing, and gazed at the man before her, and his cloak that had started this darkness.

"Vlad," she whispered, "why are you DOING this?" Fighting tears, she scowled, and clenched her hands into fists. "Now I don't think I can forgive you."

So the girl was a shapeshifter? Apparently so, because Aaric wasn't sure there was another reason for her suddenly transforming into a large cat and whisking them away to a... church? The angel stared, wide-eyed, at the figure on the roof. A sort of hot anger rose from within. How dare he choose such a place to attack the town? The boy listened to his ally's instructions.

Aaric swallowed, and nodded. "Uhm... th-thank you so much for helping me!" The angel flashed the honey-eyed girl a smile. After the shapeshifter put him down, he stumbled into the church, searching for 'somewhere we can heal'. Aaric bit his lip nervously, and walked quietly through the aisle. Something... something about the church seemed to... welcome him? It might have been his imagination, but Aaric was certain that the church was trying to help. Trying to concentrate, the angel opened his mind to his surroundings. He knew, in a church, there was always a room behind the altar wall. Sometimes you just had to look more carefully.

After hauling himself onto the stage, the young boy stepped past the podium, and made his way to the altar. After taking in an eyeful, he brushed his hand against the wall. When his finger's touched a seam, Aaric ran his hand down the line before finding the catch and popping the door open. The boy smiled wearily. Normally churches aren't so secretive about their back rooms... He shrugged, and poked his head in. It was a simple storage area, with a table surrounded by shelves holding assorted boxes and random objects. Personally, Aaric thought that if they needed to find a place to heal, the best thing would be to run away as fast as possible. Oh well, he trusted his companion's plan. Now, to find some troops...

Aaric froze. He was staring at the window, and the entire pane of glass was drenched in blood. The angel sucked in a breath. The red seemed to be flowing up? What was happening on the roof!? The boy began moving before he was conscious of what was happening. He was outside the church in a flash, and was looking for a way to get to the roof. Clear blue eyes locked on a retaining wall for climbing vines, and the angel set to climbing it. "So if you want to kill them all...you'll have to kill me first." The nine year old body was just strong enough to haul itself onto the roof desperately. Aaric saw her ally slam herself into... a man? No. Not a man. The human-angel narrowed his eyes with recognition. Definitely not a man.

"What are you doing!?" the little boy raced over, and wedged himself between the two with surprising strength. His skin was crawling with the prospect of being so close to an evil being, but protecting the shapeshifter held the priority. With a burst of force, Aaric shoved the human away from the monster. He grabbed her hand. "Do you think any good is going to come from your death!? Don't offer your life on a silver platter!"

Aaric whirled around and locked his heavenly blue eyes on the vampire's glowing red orbs.

She rolled her eyes when he sister talked to Sahlidain, "He's using magic, Nerwen." She looked away from her sister when she asked about it. "Awhile ago, that's why I tried to keep you away from the forest." She turned around and looked at the destroyed house. "But he didn't come from the forest, he came from the pits of hell, not even the Gods can save him." She looked back up to the vampire. "By the gods, that's a child!" She shouted before using her own magic and lifting herself up onto the roof. "Please stop this madness!"

Leli sobbed and grabbed the boy, holding him tightly to her chest. "Knock it off, kid!" she shouted, "If you get hurt, bad things will go down!" She pushes him further away from Vlad and smiles weakly, trying to wipe the tears from her eyes. A girl boosted up onto the roof, and she pressed the small child into her arms. "Please, please, take him away, somewhere safe!"
