A fifteen-year-old with twitchy hands.
Jacob is fairly quiet- he keeps to himself. His opinions are so far away from the religious fanatics that he can't say anything, for fear that he'll be dropped out onto the street, left to the mercy of the Wasters. Just as with his looks, he has a pretty average-looking personality. From afar, at least.
He writes in his journal, tics and all, about everything- his ideas of the days before, stories about the characters in his head, even his opinions on why the Wasters are so violent and hungry. He believes that they're like zombies, and he hopes that he can find a way to sedate them. Sometimes, he dreams that he's a Waster, abandoned by his Waster kin. His every waking thought seems to connect to those creatures.
If you were to be close to him, you'd notice how smart he is; it's almost impossible not to notice when he wants you to see it.
Jake doesn't have much- I mean, sure, he has a journal and a collection of heavy pens (to keep his twitching down), but he doesn't have much time for collecting gear.
He does have a tape player that he found buried under pile of kindling; so he considers himself fairly educated in music. Which means he likes Eminem and the Grateful Dead and Duran Duran, among other things.
Jake was born inside the religious fanatics' town; he hasn't left since. His known family consisted of his mother, his father, and his brother, but they diminished over the years. Only two years ago did his father get removed from the township for conflicting ideals (he had tried to roast a pet dog for food); a member who frequently travelled outside claimed that he had seen shreds of Matthew (Jake's father)'s clothes just outside the limits. Jake's brother left not long after that; rumor has it he's still alive in another town.
Other than that, Jake's history isn't very interesting; he's planned to escape to his brother's town in order to finally escape the suffocating nature of the religious fanatics.
