He joined the local guard of his village, but some royal guards saw how well he wielded weapons and recruited him. His parents were farmer and he promised them that he would take care of them so they didn't have to work so hard. Once his training was done he went back to parents only to see themselves worked to death. After that he devoted himself to battle in the guard. He took the front lines with a pole arm and hoped that he'd be reunited with his parents. After the battles that he's been through he sort of lost himself, and just takes each one step at a time.
