Description

Image
Name: Marin Peterson

Age: 20

Race: Human

Description: Marin is not commonly seen wearing skirts now that she is (or was) a midshipman. She is more typically found in khaki-colored cargo pants that come below her knee and combat boots that come to the middle of her shin. Seeing as most boys don't have such a big, ahem, chest Marin had to wrap bandages around hers to keep it at the right level. But the expert tailoring courtesy of her little sister makes it look more realistic. She wears a simple, white tank top underneath a khaki jacket with several pockets. She does keep a pair of goggles conveniently placed on her head, ready to pull down should the need arise. Her expression is usually set into a crooked, mischevious smile. Her skin is tan from exposure to the sun and her muscles are toned from heavy work on the Valiant.

Powers: Well, I suppose you could say she has unparalleled piloting skills. And she's quite the skilled knot tyer (but that's not very amazing, now is it?).

Culture: The place Marin comes from is ravaged in war between two sides. One relies on genetically altering animals to turn them into weapons of war and the other relies on machinery. Geneticists do in fact value animals and life, but have no thought to the consequences. Mechanists usually have health problems do to the smoke that their machinery produces. In the specific country she lived in, the most seperation had been caused by machines and geneticists. There had been a war that had nearly split the country apart in a bloody civil war, but the leader at the time managed to keep it together. There is still discrimination between the two groups. Most battles occur in the sky, and it is considered a great honor for all men to join the Air Service. In order for them to register, they have to be at least at the age of sixteen and of the male gender.

Weapons: N/A

What you give to Yuko to travel: A medal her father was awarded with for outstanding bravery in his days as an Air Serviceman. Marin received it so that she would always remember to keep her dream close to her heart.

Personality: Marin has been known to be a stubborn, reckless child with no heed for her actions. That's how her mother would put it anyway. But Marin likes to think of herself as daring and more than willing to take risks. Since she's spent six years living with boys, she's picked up some of their habits and mannerisms. Things that her mother would have a heart attack over. For example, instead of the lady-like walk of sashaying the hips, Marin's grown accustomed to a bit of a cocky swagger. She's also learned to be a bit rough, blunt, and straight-forward with her words. There couldn't be any dilly-dallying when there was a war going on, so if she is a little hyper, it's only because she had to be on her toes all the time.

Marin's a hard-worker, and it was no wonder that she managed to get into the Air Service with that work ethic of hers. But unfortunately, she doesn't keep in mind her own physical limitations. Which brings us to another topic, her eating habits. In the Valiant, if you didn't grab it yourself, it would be gone within the next two seconds and added with the large work load midshipman dealt with, it equates to many hungry boys. So Marin eats like a pig. She hardly ever gets angry, but should you work her up enough to get to that point, she'll use violence. And it won't be pretty . . . She has a soft spot for animals, so it won't be too hard angering her if there's harm done to a creature.

History: Marin grew up in a geneticist-supporting family and grew up to love animals like the rest of the little girls she grew up to know. But there was thing that seperated her from all the rest of them. She wanted to be an Air Serviceman. Her father, despite being a former Air Serviceman himself, completely supported her dream and only continued to support it by telling her of the daring adventures he himself went on in his days against machinery. He gave her Air Service books to study from so that one day, when she was ready and prepared to take on foes of her own, she would at least pass the standard test and gain the chance to serve. Unfortunately, her father never lived to see the day she would try. He passed away of a mysterious epidemic that Marin managed to avoid at the age of ten.

Now wanting to make her father proud more than ever before, she threw herself into studying her knots, and when she turned fifteen, already taller than most boys, she joined the Air Service and henceforth became known as midshipman Martin Peterson. For six years, she fought bravely aboard a gaint whale, literally. It was called the Valiant, and it was the biggest of its kind, a remarkable achievement in the Geneticist world. It struck fear into their enemies. It was designed to hold enough hydrogen to lift hundreds of tons off the ground, including an entire eco system, because that was what the whole ship was made of. An entire eco system. Marin was a successful midshipman, earning titles, but never going past the rank of midshipman, only because she loved that job more than anything else in the world. She was more hands on with the animals and every day she was out in the air where she felt she truly belonged. Unfortunately for Marin, she also had quite a bit of fangirls. It was a little odd having girls fawn over you when you were a girl yourself, but the captain had always said that girls adored a man in uniform. Especially a handsome-looking middie.

But one day, as she was changing, she was spotted by one of the other midshipman. Marin knew this would be the end if she let him go. So she tried to pursue him. If he managed to get away from her and tell the whole bloody ship that Martin Peterson was a fake, she would never be able to feel the wind again. She would be executed. It was absolutely forbidden for girls to enter the Air Service, no matter how many accomplishments they would make. But perhaps they would banish her. If word got out that the Air Service made away with a girl, they could be screwed. But then again, they had let her slip by for six years without a single hint of what she was all this time. Just as the midshipman reached for the captain's door, she found that she was no longer on the Valiant.
