Description

Image
Name:
Lance Mercado

Age:
30

Gender:
Male

Race:
Human

Appearance:
Lance stands at six feet and ten inches tall. He has pale skin and straight, ashy blonde hair that falls just below his jaw line. He often keeps the back tied up in some way. He has narrow blue eyes. Lance is on the leaner side, though you couldn't exactly say he's particularly on the scrawny side. He likes to stay fit enough to be considered healthy. One might almost say he would be lanky, if not for his incredible posture. Lance wears glasses, mostly because he needs them to read, he can see without them decently, though he does like to keep them on pretty much all the time. He dresses pretty simply in more neutral colors, almost always in some form of slacks or khaki pants, and either plain colored sweaters or button up shirts. Though he seems to be more partial to black turtlenecks when the weather is appropriate.

Personality:
Lance is pretty quiet. He prefers to sit back and observe rather than be the center of attention. He's often found off reading a book in a quiet spot during social gatherings. Though he's quiet, he can at times be decently sociable and charming when he finds it in his best interest to be so. Lance does enjoy people, and company, but he's definitely the listener of the group and definitely doesn't mind it being that way. He will occasionally pipe up and add to a conversation should it pique his interest.

History:
Lance grew up leading a pretty normal life for a child in a very wealthy noble family. He grew up focusing on his studies and was always a very studious boy, even when he was very young. From the time he could read, that's pretty much all he did. He thrived on learning new information. Cultures were his favorite subject. He loved learning all he could about the way people lived in different places, the things they believed in, and the languages that they spoke. He went to school to study language and when he was done with that he came home just in time for their family to sort of adopt a very strange new maid who would end up influencing he and his younger brother Aiden greatly while she lived and worked with the family. In the previous years he's been home studying with various scholars and traveling around to learn about new cultures. Recently he received a job offer he couldn't really pass up on after hearing where it was, especially after receiving a letter from his grandmother regarding a certain young lady he hadn't seen in some years.

So begins...

Amira walked into the other room with her group of friends and there stood before them, one very tall blonde man and another blonde man shorter than Weston, making only about six feet tall. Amira smiled and went and stood between them. "These are old friends of mine. This is Aiden and Lance Mercado." She said, pointing out each boy when she said their name. "These are my friends, Serena, Lottie, and Nixy. And my room mate Weston." She said, introducing them to the boys. Lance bowed politely. "Its a pleasure to meet all of you." He said while his brother waved a little bit. "Yeah, its nice to see that Mira made some friends." He said and Amira gave the kid a look but then just smiled, seeming really happy that they were here.

Weston was curious when Amira presented them to the two men. That one man was really tall, and promptly had a wave of insecurity wash over Weston. When she introduced them he felt his stomach turn slightly at the mere mention of the name Mercado. No relation to his brother-in-law, he assumed, but still somewhat upsetting. He came up beside Amira, his left hand coming to rest almost protectively on her back while he outstretched his other hand politely towards the two men. "Weston Page," he said politely. "Any friend of Amira's is a friend of mine."

Both of the men shook Westons hand, Lance having a firmer handshake than his clearly more timid brother. He had also noticed the way that this Weston had come up to put what looked like a rather protective hand on her back. Amira looked over at Weston. "Aiden is the one I told you about from when I worked as a maid. The one I kept bothering." She explained. The girls recognized that story as well and smiled a little bit. "I wouldnt really call it bothering, tormenting might be a better term." Aiden joked softly and Amira shook her head a little bit and gave him a playful look. "So why are you here? Not that I'm complaining, i'm really glad you came to see me." She said and smiled at the both of them. "I'm looking at a job offer here in the city at the museum, Grandmother caught wind and let us know that you lived up here now, so I thought i'd stop by and say hi. Aiden heard of my plans and invited himself along to come check up on you too. Obviously you're doing quite well though, nothing to worry about here." Lance explained. Amira looked back at the stove and then blinked. "Oh, ive got snacks to make how about you all head to the dining room and you can get acquainted and things while I make snacks." She said and ushered everyone to the dining room table before running off to the kitchen.

Phoenix was a bit stunned for a moment as she looked at the men. The one she introduced as Lance was stunning, and also obnoxiously tall. She noticed the way Weston protectively put a hand on Amira, but was a bit too caught up in admiring this man to really smirk at it or say anything. She also saw the way Lottie and Serena smiled when Amira mentioned having told them about these guys, though she'd not yet heard that story and lacked the context. She was a bit speechless as Amira ushered them all out to the dining table and she seated herself beside Weston. She recognized the name Mercado as it was a noble house back home - one of Weston's sisters, in fact, had married a Mercado - though she doubted they were nobles themselves, or even related to the Austemoir Mercado family.

Weston was somewhat relieved when she mentioned that the younger brother was the one she'd bothered in her story, because that meant that he was married with children and wouldn't be a concern. The older one, though...he wasn't so certain. It didn't help his confidence any to have been reminded of Sharon and her husband by the mention of their name. He headed to the dining table with them when Amira ushered them out, sitting by Phoenix and glancing towards the kitchen, watching as Amira left before looking to her friends. "So," he asked after a moment, "the museum? Are you a historian?" he asked, genuinely curious now.

The two men made their way to the table, sitting down next to each other. Lance looked Westons way when he spoke and nodded slightly. "Sort of. I practice Historical linguistics. The museum is looking to hire me to work with them on a project theyve started after finding an old burial grounds on an island previously thought not to have any inhabitants. Theyve found evidence of a long forgotten and unique language and theyre hoping I can help them figure it out." He explained.

Weston listened curiously, blinking in surprise when he heard the man's response. "Oh, wow," he said, his fascination genuine. "That sounds like quite the discovery. That'd be quite interesting to work on," he said. He was certainly no historian, nor a linguist, but it sounded interesting to him all the same. Phoenix, meanwhile, just quietly listened. It did sound interesting, Weston was right about that, though she wasn't entirely certain what to say right about now.

Lance nodded a little bit. "One can certainly hope it will be. A new language, or a new version of a previous language would be quite the find for the museum. I dont know much else about the project theyve started, but it seems promising. They found runes along with other symbols and pictures. Hopefully it will all come together to form a language that I can then start to decipher. It could unlock a whole new world of knowledge, and understanding of the people who lived there. Its certainly not a project I could just pass up." He said. "And with Amira here, its an opportunity to catch up with an old friend as well. We had wondered how she was doing."

Weston nodded as the man spoke. This Lance certainly had a passion for his work, that much was for sure. "No, I can't see how you could pass it up. I sure wouldn't be able to if I worked in your field," he said with a smile and a shake of his head. "I must say, I'd be interested in hearing more about your work. Have you worked on any other big projects like this before?" he asked curiously. Though he'd never studied it as much as he would have liked, history had always interested him; Austemoir had a decent museum, though their displays were generally lackluster because they were more focused on research and studying rather than the education of the public. There were plenty of ruins and lost artifacts hidden in the mountains if you knew where to look for them.

"Ive worked on a few smaller projects with museums before. With already known languages that are either forgotten or obscure. But I havent worked on anything quite this big where we could be dealing with an entirely new language. This project is pretty spread out among the kingdom as well, with each museum handling certain thins to help move things along, but up here their main focus is language and customs." Lance explained. Amira walked by and smiled. "Well, if anyone can figure out some random obscure language, its Lance, they definitely picked the right guy. He figured out my tribal speak in less than a month, then proceeded to sass me in it while I was learning this language." She said and glared playfully. Lance didnt say anything like that, though Aiden did chuckle a little bit. "She used to get so mad about it too. It was the most adorable thing. She'd just puff her cheeks out and fuss up a storm." He said and Amira sighed.

Weston nodded as he listened. The twinge of jealousy was pretty much gone now, replaced by his interest in hearing what this man had to say. He looked up when Amira came in and he chuckled a bit, glancing in Aiden's direction when the younger brother mentioned Amira puffing out her cheeks and fussing. "Yes, that certainly sounds like her. It's adorable when she does it, isn't it?" he said with an amused smirk, looking up at Amira. "Do you need any help in the kitchen, love?" he asked her.

Aiden nodded. "Well, unless she's fussing at you. Then you're lucky if she doesnt tell you to go sit in the corner and think about your life choices." He said and Lance shook his head slightly. Serena gasped. "She STILL does that. Did that to me the other day at work." She said and Aiden chuckled. "I suppose some things never change." He said looking back at Amira who looked back at him for a second, a certain sad look in her eyes before she looked at Weston. "No, I just had a few minutes to wait for something to come to room temperature is all."

Weston and Phoenix both laughed softly at Serena's reaction to Aiden's words and Weston just shook his head. "I'm glad that still hasn't happened to me. Maybe she just likes me best," he joked, smirking in Amira's direction a bit. He caught the look in her eyes when she looked at Aiden, but it was gone quickly and then her gaze was on him instead. "Does that mean it's almost ready?" he asked her hopefully, smiling and taking a quick sip of his drink.

Amira looked at Weston. "Maybe I should start putting you in time out...." She teased and shook her head. "Yeah things will be done here soon and you'll have snacks. You wont have to starve for too much longer, I promise." She said and gave him a playful look. Aiden looked over at Weston. "So what was it you did? Our grandmother mentioned that Amira had a room mate. But she never mentioned what you did for a living. She was actually decently vague about a lot of things even though she'd gotten a good amount of letters from Amira."

Weston laughed a little when Amira threatened to start putting him in time out and he shook his head. "You couldn't do that to me," he teased back. He looked over when Aiden asked him what he did and he smiled a bit. If this grandmother of theirs was vague about him, it was probably because Amira had been vague about him in her letters, which he appreciated. "I'm a writer, actually," he replied. "I just finished my second book and the day after tomorrow I'm supposed to head down to the kingdom below to spend some time with my publishers and work out the last of the details so it can go to print," he replied.

Amira shook her head. "I can, and I will. So shush." She said and then smiled when Weston talked about his book and then nodded. "His last book as really good. Like my favorite ever." She said and Aiden smiled. "Oh well that sounds interesting. Congratulations on the second book. What kind of books do you write?" He asked. Amira went and excused herself and went to the kitchen and put all the snacks and things on a big platter before bringing it out and setting it on the table before sitting down next to Lance, since that was the open seat.

Weston laughed a little when Amira said she could and would put him in time out and he stuck his tongue out at her a bit. He beamed when she said that his last book was her favourite ever. He looked over when Aiden congratulated him and asked what he wrote and he smiled. "Thanks," he said. "I write fiction. It's mostly romance and drama, which I suppose explains why I'm spending my Saturday night dining with four beautiful women...women are suckers for a good romance," he said with a slight smirk, shooting Amira a wink as she sat down. Phoenix caught it, trying not to snicker, and she nodded. "We are, it's true. I don't know what woman isn't," she said with a laugh.

Aiden nodded a little bit. "Oh really? I'll have to see about getting my wife a copy. She's real into romance and drama books. Kind of looks like we have a whole library full." He said and Amira blinked. "Dont you?" She asked and Aiden shook his head. "Thats besides the point Amira. They arent all romance novels." He said and Amira laughed a little bit. "It is true. We're all kind of suckers for a good romance story..."

Weston smiled a bit as he listened to Amira and Aiden. It was a bit of a relief to know that this boy was, in fact, married, because that made him not a threat...the other one, though, he wasn't so sure about. "Luckily I just wrote to the publishers and requested they ship out a few extra copies for me. I figured the girls all deserved a copy of their own since they had to borrow Amira's, and I got a few extra copies just in case I needed them. Between those and the new book, I can get you two brand new autographed romances for your wife," he said with a grin.

Aiden smiled a little bit. "Im sure she would love that. Thank you." He said and then Lance looked over. "Aiden will have to go home in a couple of days, but i'll be back and fourth between here and the kingdom below for a while, but I can make sure he gets them." He said and Amira nodded. She was kind of glad that Lance would be around, he and Aiden had been some of her favorite people that she had met after she left the tribe, and she had missed them.

Weston chuckled a bit, taking a sip of his drink. "Make sure you thank me in your acceptance speech when you're named husband of the year," he told Aiden with an amused smirk. He nodded when Lance said that he'd make sure the books got to Aiden. "That's perfect," he said. "Where's home for you two?" he asked curiously, wondering what sort of distance the two of them had to travel to get here. He doubted it was anything quite like the distance from here to Austemoir, but obviously couldn't outright mention being from Austemoir.
