FIRST IMPRESSION Image
Kenji isn't evil but he tries to look the part as much as possible. He tends to wear darker clothing, topped off with exaggerated bits and bobbles as accents. He carries himself in a nonchalant manner. Exaggerated movements, style, and make up gives him a flare for the theatrical but there is more underneath. His flamboyance gives off a certain charm in itself and he can be magnetic if he wants to be. He's certainly one to give a presence and appears to be on heck of a good time to be around if nothing else. To some, his theatrics may seem phony at first but he never stops playing his 'evil' persona around others so eventually his mask is taken as eccentricity and nothing more. His lack of bulk and his fair complexion make him look like an easy target but he has skills an tricks up his sleeves and he is no stranger to a good brawl.

EYES
Clear frosty blue

HAIR
black, occasionally bleached.

BODY TYPE
Lean

WARDROBE
Dark, fitting. Accented with jewelry.

ATHLETIC PROWESS
Kenji is not one to obsess about his gym habits or eating habits for that matter, but he does enjoy being active. He has a need to move and so often spends time running so despite his eating habits, he tends to stay pretty lean. And since it is a dog-eat-dog world, he has picked up a bit of street fighting which has given him sinewy muscle. His running habits also lead to minor par-cor though he hasn't pursued it beyond simple needs.

MORAL ALIGNMENT
True Neutral

POSITIVE TRAITS
+ Charismatic - can make most people at least enjoy his crazy company or make them laugh.
+ Empathetic - though he hides it, he is very empathetic and sympathetic for the plight of others and wants to help them.
+ Observant - though he acts like he doesn't care or notice, Kenji is perspective and makes mental notes about everything he comes across.
+ Acting - Since his alignment is good but he's stuck in the wrong camp, he's pretty good at acting. Or lying. Whatever you want to call it.

NEGATIVE TRAITS
- Obsessive - He hasn't really received a diagnosis, but Kenji is obsessed with neatness and order. He hates it when things change or his personal things are moved.
There is little in life he can control so he clings to what he can manipulate.
- Persona - since he has a certain role he plays, he doesn't act on his empathetic nature and actually help people if others are involved.
- Suspicious- considering the world they live in and where he resides, it understandable why he doesn't trust others with his secrets.
- Anger - Pretending to be what he's not often leads him into a situation where he is stuck between what he wants to do and what he has to and this tension builds until he snaps, becoming aggressive to those around him and truly making him look like maybe he does belong in the 'Bad Camp'

STRENGTHS
- Calculating nature is an asset when plans need to be thought out and details remembered.
- Since he likes to run, he's managed to build up a bit of endurance, should he ever be required to use it.
- acting - he finds it easy slipping into new roles considering the current one he is playing is a complete opposite of himself.
- Kenji has a knack for talking to people, whether it be his flamboyant charm he outwardly displays, or the rare instances when he is actually reaching out from his real empathy.

WEAKNESSES
- Kenji's dual nature is a source of frustration and when pushed into breaking down, his normal thinking becomes erratic and impulsive, and he can be spiteful, and then regret it later.
- Kenji has a huge soft spot for animals and his facade cracks around them, especially if they are in harms way. Same goes with children.
- Family is another weakness for him. Though he doesn't know his twin, he feels sorry for what they may be going through and wishes he knew them. He's sure they'd balance each other out someway. He also does love his parents who tried to be active in his life and were a source of comfort.

PERSONALITY
Kenji encompasses duality. On the inside and when no one can tell who heis, he is generous, empathetic, and had a soft smile waiting in the wings. Naturally, he is more contemplative and quiet and prefers watching over being the center of attention. If someone is in need of assistance, he tries to find a way to aid them, though only if the person in question can't find out it was him who helped them. He can be quite selfless if given the opportunity.
On the other hand however, he knows he's in the wrong camp and he doesn't want the others in the camp to realize that and take advantage of his nature. So, he's put up a facade for everyone. He is charismatic, eccentric, boarding on exaggerated flamboyance or nonchalant in actual situations. He tries to be his complete opposite and can come off apathetic. He won't usually go out of his way to bully others but he won't back down if others try to do it to him. He acts like a tough guy and pretends to enjoy every minute of being bad though the constant facade brings him personal and moral discomfort and turmoil. When the conflict gets bad enough, he turns reactive and aggressive, trying to quell the depression he feels brimming beneath the surface.

PARENTAL RELATIONSHIPImage
Surprisingly, his parents have been a source of aid for him. They worked in the camp and as a child growing up, they bought him little things like his favorite candies or things he might ask for if they were small. His parents were one of the few that have ever seen Kenji's real nature. Kenji is not sure if they believe he is the 'good twin' or if he was the bad twin that somehow became good. It doesn't really matter since regardless, they've been his shoulder to cry on and alleviate some of his pent up frustrations and despair.

SIBLING
Kenji doesn't know who his twin is but he wants to find out, meet them, share experiences. He really wants to form a sibling bond with them.

HISTORY
Kenji grew up mostly reserved and cautious, always feeling trapped. He was a rabbit in a wolf's den and he knew he didn't belong. For a while, he thought there was something wrong with him but over the years he'd come to realize that he was just placed in the wrong camp. He started focusing more on surviving the place and tried to mimic those around him. As he began to learn the role, he was picked on and seen as weak since he was quite and shy. He'd had his fair share of bullying and beat downs but from them, he learned how to act the part. Slowly, he adapted and every time he wanted to react as he normally would, he had to push it down and actively do what he knew to be wrong. It made him out to be cruel which weighed heavily on him. He felt very alone, and part of him still does. His parents became very important to him during these years as he acclimated and sought their support and affirmation that he wasn't evil.

With his new persona, he did make tentative friends and he learned that everyone at some point is playing a role. Eve these 'bad twins' weren't all bad just as he knew he wasn't all good. There was a balance. Somewhere. As he drew closer to the Sorting, the more anxious about it he got. He wanted out of this place badly. He wanted to stop pretending he was something he wasn't. He wanted to be free, though a part of him was apprehensive that he'd been pretending so long that he didn't know how to stop pretending.

As for the silent rebellion, Kenji learned about it from his parents as they tried to groom him for it to help change the world from inside the camps and then out. As Kenji approaches the Sorting, Kenji finds himself at crossroads about the whole thing. He understands what they are fighting for and what they hope he and the others will eventually accomplish. Their cause is a good one and part of him is all for it. No one should be segregated and thrown into camps and forgotten and then either deemed a failure without the chance to flourish, or forced into cookie cutter jobs. He hates that he was kept away from his family, growing up like a normal child, and not knowing who his twin is. There is a lot wrong with the system. He knows his parents want him to become an example, a leader that people have a duality to them, even the Cursed. He knows he could be what they want but then there is the question of finally just being himself after the sorting. The thought of shedding one role for another one is daunting.
It is a never ending cycle. The inner turmoil increases but in the end, he knows himself. Once given the choice after the sorting, he knows he'll do what he can for the rebellion because it is the right thing to do for those that will come after him.

The world ended the day the families never went home. At least, they didn't go home the same.

The camps were created as a means for calming a terrified people. Many saw that a containment of the Cured was the only way to get the nation back to where it had started. They admired the iron gates and stone buildings. They admired the illusion of security that the camps provided. It never occurred to them what was built inside. Blood had not yet stained the walls but the sterile smell did nothing to avert thoughts about what become of it. Large screens hung in basements meant to brain-wash and pray the hate away. Or even pray the love away. There were certain emotions people could and could not express. The people wanted normal. The people wanted uniform.

So began, Re-Education.

It started small, with what the establishment called "Productive Labor." How could the Cured begin to fit into society when they were under the impression that they were above those who had worked before them? In order to correct their superiority complexes and their work ethics, they were put to work building, mining, and assembling all sorts of structures and projects. It was hot work, and many passed out from dehydration or exhaustion. But, if a Cured could not handle it, that only meant he had to work harder. These were dire times, and many died from it.

Once the excitement died down, new standards were put in place for what a Cured should be. After all, these creations were meant to be the epitome of perfect. Everything needed to be regular. They added "Suggestive Psychology" to the regime. In order to trim and crop the Cured into carbon-copies, they needed to associate their "negative traits" with things that disgusted or terrified them. This was a time of fear, and any difference from the norm was seen as a sign for a stay in Re-Education. These differences included, but were not limited to, angry outbursts, homosexuality, skipping class, authority issues, and broken laws. In order to cure the Cured, they showed them pictures to represent their negativity, followed by an electric shock or a vomit-inducer. Many victims to this level of re-education came out stoic and highly dedicated to the cause. Some never made it out. There were held for as little as a day or as long as several weeks, but the results were still the same.

Re-Education became a topic of fear within the camps. It was never mentioned out loud, or even whispered, to anyone. It was a threat used by officials to herd the Cured into obedient lines. The equivalent of Voldemort, basically.

It was a world that only those inside the iron gates knew of. Almost. A Cured was able to get a message to the barest of hints of the Amber Rebellion. Only a handful of people at the time, it created outrage among the group. They used the information to recruit more naysayers all over the country, spreading out into almost ten chapters. It was then that they realized only those on the inside could truly destroy the Camps. The Chief Strategists of every division met and devised a plan. They appointed Aimee and Ethan Cerf to be administrators of the Inside. Aimee and Ethan had experience with the rebellion, and knew the systems. This allowed them to stay in contact with each other, as well, uniting the two camps. Aimee appointed Alexandra as her Second. This allowed him to communicate and recruit others in Camp Good, and strategize with his counterpart in Camp Evil. Ethan appointed Vidas Wagnar as his Second. Soon, Kenji joined the Inside, as well as a few others from both camps. The hard work was done by the Premiers, as the five Cured were affectionately known. Intercepting messages and passing communications between camps were crimes that could get them Re-Educated, at best, and Executed, at worst. It was a fate that none of them could assign to anyone else. They all needed to stay secret, and they all needed to stay loyal.

Whether they all abide by those standards is another story that's yet to be told.

He rolled out of bed, quite gracefully, in fact. His bruised hand hit the table and he winced, but it was definitely one of the more successful attempts. Ethan yawned into the mirror. He needed to be awake for kitchen duty within the next ten minutes, and the lack of sleep wasn't helping his case. He had a lot more supervision since the last time he'd been caught passing notes, and the constant nightmares from torture weren't exactly conducive to relaxation. But, it was his fault for getting caught in the first place. He'd been stupid, and was too eager to get a message to the outside that he'd forgotten about the extra security round on Fridays. An amateur mistake, and Aimée had given him hell for it. That is, after she made sure he was alright. She didn't need to deal with Re-Education as much, and he tried to shelter her from it, but she was inherently sinister and knew her way around a lie. He still couldn't figure out how the Society had mistaken her for Good, but these were small blessings, after all.

Tugging on his uniform, he winced as bad memories made his stomach roll. Every time he put on the rough fabric, it gave him flashbacks of everything he had to endure in his time at the Fort. But, if it meant that one day this whole system would come crashing to the ground, he'd do it again. His biggest fear was that by the time his Sorting came around, their work still wouldn't be done. There had been others before him, either successful members of the Rebellion, or executed. He wanted neither. He wanted his Sorting to be the last the Society would have. He wanted there to be peace and equality in the world. He wanted a fucking unicorn.

Shaking his head ruefully, he pulled open his door and came face-to-face with Lou, his current security detail. No, not because he was important. At least not in the sense to be celebrated. Lou was there to make sure he didn't break any more "laws."

"Hey, Lou, how's your Monday? Productive, I bet?" Ethan smiled cheekily and Lou glowered. Without saying a word, the burly tugged his arm and pulled him into the hall. "Aw, not even a sardonic smirk? C'mon, Lou, you gotta give me something," he baited him. But, apparently, Lou was not to be messed with this morning, since he only shoved Ethan forward and made him keep walking.

Making a show of stumbling, Ethan kicked his foot against the door to his left. Kenji's. There was no way to communicate safely within these halls, so he needed something to get his Second's attention. There were plans to be made. Hopefully someone could get to Vidas, but if either of them were caught in the Female Dormitory, it would mean Re-Education for the rest of their lives, or execution. Yeah, people got killed for walking into the wrong building all the time. Casual.

"To the kitchen, recruit," Lou barked. Ethan chuckled, folding his hands behind his back and swaggering down the rest of the hall, whistling the whole time. He had a part to play, after all.

Kenji was indeed, in the bedroom. He'd gone out earlier that morning to just run as was his usual haunt for the morning. It was a good routine that helped him organize his thoughts and reflect on what was happening around him, among other things. And it was simply calming. Most people were asleep in the early waking morning so he generally was left alone which suited him just fine. That morning in particular he had just needed his own space. The walls were suffocating and the beating he had to give last night was weighing on his mind.

The younger recruit had been so adamant about a fight. Kenji wondered if he had been dared to come up to him. The kid kept getting in his way as he tried to go about his day. He had snapped when the other resident grabbed his arm in an attempt to twist him around. Kenji had had enough at that point and punched him square in the face, making the younger stumble and hit the ground. He'd assumed the fight was over and tried to continue to get away but the guy just hadn't taken the hint and came after him until he got the fight he wanted. He'd left the kid on the ground for his buddies to collect. Kenji was glad none of the guards had been around. It wouldn't have mattered that Kenji hadn't started it. They would have both been punished. Kenji sighed at the thought and shook his head. He wondered if the other 'evil twins' here really like all this fighting and beating or if they were putting up a farce too.

Kenji was just changing into clean clothes after his shower when he heard the thumb at his door. He would have thought nothing of it until he heard the voice outside telling someone to get to the kitchens. He tilted his head to the side and finished pulling on his clothes and opened the door to peak out. Ethan. It would be easy to assume Ethan had tapped his door on accident, but he knew better. Nothing Ethan did was ever on accident. He wondered what was on Ethan's mind this morning and if he'd heard word from the other agents in the rebellion.

Kenji slipped out of his room and headed for the cafeteria then and leaned against the door, watching the guards as they roamed through the lines of people trying to get good spots for when the kitchen opened for business. Other groups were already sitting at tables chatting with their friends. As soon as the guards turned away thanks to a disagreement that was getting louder on the other side of the room, Kenji slipped into the back of the kitchen and easily spotted Ethan. He gave him a nod in acknowledgement. He was pressed against one of the cupboards out of the way and close to the door but out of view of the other workers in the kitchen and any guard that happened to pass by.

Ethan whistled his way to the kitchen, with Lou only jabbing him in the back once or twice to speed up. But, he was good at playing his part. He knew when to stumble, when to curse, when to smile, and when to glare. It was second nature to him now. Lou could only dream of catching his mistake and wiping him away like the rest of the Mistakes before him. His blood started to boil as he thought of the people who had suffered in the past, simply for being born different. Contaminated species? Try population control. All Ethan had to do was prove it.

He began to peel carrots for today's lunch when he saw Kenji slip in out of the corner of his eye, and he felt his heart sink in his chest a little. Speaking of people who had suffered, he was about to inform his only remaining teammate that their crew had just gotten a little smaller. They were going to have to try hard to make up for it now, since they couldn't exactly recruit. Their team was forged through blood and sweat, and that wasn't something you could just repeat whenever you lost someone.

Ethan continued to peel, but he moved closer to Kenji's corner, taking care to look as nonchalant as possible. "Vidas was sent to Re-Education last night, and I don't think she'll be released any time soon." He wanted to elaborate, but there was no way to do it in here, with Lou watching his every move. Even now, he saw the guard's gaze flick to him while he whispered to what appeared to the other man as the wall. Ethan hunched his shoulders and rinsed his hands, making a show of splashing water on his face and having to turn slightly to reach the paper towels, giving him the perfect view of Kenji hiding. "We'll have to step up to cover for her, but we can do it. We have to do it. We're so close," he stopped and turned back to the carrots as he felt his blood start to boil again. The Society couldn't get away with doing this to so many. It couldn't keep going unnoticed any longer.

"Aimée and I have a plan, and I think--no, I know that it'll work. But, we have to work together. Up for it?" Ethan asks Kenji quietly. They were approaching the expiration date for this conversation, but Ethan needed his confirmation in order to start passing the notes that would need to happen. It was going to be a busy for awhile, but if it meant the end to this, he was prepared for a lot of risky nights. He only hoped that his team would be, too.

Kenji was prepared for news about another meeting. Another plan to expose this place for it was. He was even expecting some message from higher up in their little organization. He had been prepared for any other news possible except for the one Ethan gave him. Vidas in reeducation. Wasn't coming back out. Gone. Vidas was gone. The news hit him like a blow to the gut. He couldn't say he'd been overly close to her. He wasn't overly close to anyone really besides Ethan, but Vidas and the others were still a sort of family in a place where you had no one. They were brothers and sisters in arms and they had each others backs, even if they didn't always agree on everything, but that was what family was. You had disagreements but you were always there. And now Vidas was lost to them. He had so many questions he wanted to ask. What had happened? How had she gotten herself into reeducation? Why couldn't he or Ethan save her? Why couldn't they try? Did they really have to accept that she was gone?

It was just him and Ethan now.

In an emotional moment, Kenji wanted nothing more than to hug Ethan to provide emotional support and receive it, but he refrained from moving. He did not want either of them to be taken away. He wasn't sure he'd be able to keep it together if he lost Ethan too. They only had each other and even if that emotional connection wasn't there, they were the last bit of resistance in this camp. Without Ethan, there would be no way to stay in contact with Aimée. Aimée and Ethan were the only siblings he knew of to be able to keep a string of communication. Fuck this was a mess. Why couldn't these administrators and government officials realize that they were all still people? They weren't animals. It was these guards that needed to be confined in this cage. They were just as bad if not worse than the individuals here.

Kenji's hands tightened into fists as the anger threatened to overtake him a moment. He closed his eyes and let out a deep breath through his teeth. Later. He had to deal with the turmoil later. Right now he needed to think. Ethan had a plan, a shot at change and Ethan needed him. He couldn't let him down. He wouldn't. Not now, not ever. Till the end, as they usually mused.

"Of course. Anything. What do you need me to do?" he asked.
