Many thousand's of years ago, during the apocoliptic war between altantis & lemoria, a gateway by the incredible magic in use by both sides rippped a hole in our reality to the fearsome and wonderous nether realm. The nether realm was filled with both great wonder, and great horror. Now, centuries later, man is once again tampering with forces beyond thier control and have once again re-opened the proverbial gates of hell. Most would ask why, and the answer is simple-power. In the nether realm, there is a powerfull substance called "vathorium", left over by the now dead atlantians that has the potential to power cities of millions for a hundred years..and its totally safe. However, the so called "demons" also prize this material-to them it's food, helping them evolve into more powerfull forms & powering thier magic. Neither side is willing to back down, and both are well armed. Conflict is inevitable, the only question is who will win.
The humans usually use normal guns, along with energy weapons, explosives and chemical weapons.Ther're greatest weapon, however, are the battlesuits for fortress patrol-10 foot tall machines that dramatically increase the users physical power and are armed with over-sized weapons & limited flight (slow speed)(Only 5 availible), though a select few (3) are psionic's, able to read human minds, create illusions & move things with thier sheer willpower. They have several fortress mines scattered thoughout the netherreams. Humans see the netherworlders as freaks and dangerous rivals to the human species.
The netherworlders come in a stagering variety of forms, ranging form the angelic to mindnumbingly hiddeous. They lack the humans technology, but have innate magic from two of the listed areas below, and have a variety of natural weapons. While netherworlders do hate each other, they veiw humanity as trespassers and vermin and will temporarilly put aside personal issues to kill humans. Netherworlder are immortal, but infighting leaves many dead or crippeled.

Appearance: 16 foot tall tree like creature of purple, green, black and yellow fungus & slime with glowing crimson eyes, slightly amorpherous and able to alter his basic dimensions..
Bio/Personality: Tends to be quite lazy, attended by numerous fungal and ooze-like monsters, urdgnaz is one of the more "passive" lords, often lying in ambush for enemies to come to him before attacking. Despite his appearance, urdgnaz is both faster and smarter than he looks. When he does enter combat himself, he prefers fighting at range but won't shy away from direct battle.
