Avalbane
When games become reality

There had been a new game that came out. It allowed its users to travel into the jet stream to play the game to their heart's content. It was the most popular and realistic game around. However, because technology was so advanced, one of its creators abused the current technology and manipulated the game trapping everyone inside it, over time Avalbane then became a second world, a real world. It was no longer a game, and if you died - unless you were so lucky as to be resurrected, then you were doomed right there. This world, is filled with dangerous creatures. It is mysterious and beautiful, but also can be dark and terrifying. Skills and classes are still in place, as well as levels. The towns are safe havens, and creatures do not travel there, at least it hasn't happened...yet. There are ten of them, each different in their own way.

Who are you? You were an Avalbane player who is now trapped inside this new world. What you do here is up to you, some people do not know about the current happenings and think they are still in the game - some people already know. Some people fight to survive, and some people fight to find a way out. Others, well others have given up. There has been rumor about people trying to group up and find a way out of this world and back home, the creator of Avalbane has threatened to destroy the earth itself and the remaining people left on it - technology is really that scary nowadays. He also in the mean time enhances Avalbane day by day, with an obsession of making that the real world - the only world.

NPS in this world are now like real people. They move and talk like real people, form friendships like real people - you could even mistake them for a real person. Food tastes like food, it even fills you up, you feel pain, pleasure, you bleed, you cry. There is no getting out of Avalbane though, at least not that anyone knows of.

Rules/Recommendations

- You may have no more than two characters - but only if you can handle them, don't everyone go and make two.
- No godmodding in any way, shape, or form. Players so accused will be dealt with before a full court of peers.
- Be creative when it comes to your weapons and gear. The more unique you are, the more you stand out.
- Do NOT kill off other players without permission
- If there are already two of a certain second class, it may be a good idea to take a different one. Originality tends to be more fun.
- Keep in mind, not everyone will be veterans of the game. There will be some first classes. (Class promotions are being reviewed presently.)
- Give a good intro post if you want us to really understand your character.
- There are no stupid questions. If you don't ask, you'll never know.
- Searching for someone to play as the creator of the game. The villain, basically.
- A second character will be allowed, after the rest of our RPers get their first choice in classes
- You may only have 6 skills from your class and 4 additional if you specialize.
- Anime pictures only!

Towns:
T:Able to trade/sell
SA: Safe haven, monsters and wild animals do not travel

Inns: Some towns have an inn for temporary visitors as well as tired or injured visitors.
Potion shop: Most towns have a small potion shop that sells minor and medium sized potions. Vary in price depending on towns.
Weapon Shop: Larger towns have a weapon shop which have basic weapons as well as arrows.
Armor Shop: Larger towns have an armor shop which have basic armors.
Forging Area: Some towns have a special area where people can build and forge items.
Residential Area: Some towns have a residential area where people are able to buy houses. Houses vary in size and appearance depending on towns. Some towns have nicer houses than others. Houses can be paid for in full or weekly.

Alliah (T/SA/Avalbane's capital and most crowded city overall. Many events go on here. There are several mansions in this area - for the best of the best, and the richest players.)
Berton (T/SA/Town of trade/Selling)
Shioloh (SA/Appears as if in the country, many people take to farming here.)
Lillick (T/Mini town in the middle of Avalbane. Known for its always open inn.)
Greenburg (SA/Most quiet of all the towns, people often stop to relax here.)
Rainne (T/SA/The most beautiful towns of Avalbane, many waterfalls, streams, and mysterious plants. Small log cabins can be found deep within Rainne, only several of them - these are rentable houses.)
Icevaine (SA/The most iscolated town in Avalbane, rumored to be the home of Avalbane's jail.)
Zail (SA/Avalbane's newest town; still under construction. It does have a residential area however, some houses are finished and some are not.)
Isis (Not much is known about this town, few people ever visit it, nobody knows why...)
Maine Sadly, this town is only known for it's inn. It otherwise has no protection from anything, and no real trading area - but many people go here because it is in the middle of traveling spots and is very open and accessable.

Classes

Warrior: Warriors are all muscle, they often use two handed weapons and have a lot of brute strength but lack in defense.
Specialization choices: Sword master (Two handed quick attacker), Duelist (Booster of attack, but skills that lessen defense)

Knight: Knights are often one handed fighters, they don't have as much power as warriors, but they usually wield shields which give more defense.
Specialization choices: Rune knight (Ability to imbue elements into weapons.)

Templar: Templars are pure tanks, with light healing abilities.
Specialization choices: Phalanx: (Enhanced healing and self support), Paladin (Enhanced defense and shield skills)

Warlock: Warlocks specialize in powerful AOE attacks, often slow casting but worth the wait.

Sage: Sages are single target attackers, though with powerful skills. They also have light support skills they are able to learn as well.
Specialization choices: Monk (Powerful single target attacks with enhanced self defense), Dark Soul (Single target dark magic user)

Necromancer: Necromancers are able to conjure and control the dead, as well as speak to them.

Auramancer: Auramancers are able to control and manipulate auras of living people and creatures, this gives them the ability to manipulate moods, actions, speech, and to see peoples auras and moods as well.

Archer: Archers are masters of the bow and specialize in long ranged combat.
Specialization choices: Ranger (Learn dagger skills), Scout (Gain many aoe bow skills)

Gunner: Gunners are able to wield many types of guns for long range combat or close range combat.

Dancer: Dancers are support characters, whom also specialize in bows and whips. They do dances in which give buffs to their party members, sadly they cannot heal.

Soloists: Soloists are buffers and healers whose skills come from singing. Whenever they sing their skills come into play in AOE form. Unlike the cleric, their heals are not as strong.
Specialization choices: Muse (Stronger support aoes and more physical and magical defense), Mystic (Able to inflict damage with song, stronger magical attack), Siren (Able to lure and then cause status ailments to foes stronger physical defense)

Cleric: The best healers of Avalbane, and often the most sought after in a party.
Specialization choices: With doctors (Ability to leech life from others to heal people), Cardinal (Stronger heals and some holy attacks)

Prophet: The best buffers in Avalbane, sadly they cannot heal at all. Their buffs however are all single target.
Specialization choices: Saint (Powerful self targeted buffs and enhanced defense)

Shaman: Shamans summon totems in certain areas to cast magical spells or to buff nearby allies.

Thief: Thieves are known for their ability to steal - thieves are also known for their ability to steal skills from monsters and mimic them for a period of time.

Assassin: Assasins are known for their skills with blades - they can use any type of dagger, sword, or blade. They are often extremely fast and quick on their feet.

Entrapper: Entrappers specialize in traps and single dagger attacks.

--
Hybrids: People that tweak their class to work with different weapons, or create a style of their own, title themselves as Hybrid ________ <classname.

Rouges: Rouges are people that have mastered more than one class, usually it is only two. These people have reached at least level seventy, and did a mid rebirth to fifty to level again with their other class abilities.

Specializing

Specializing is basically going further into your class, it's new to the world, and not everyone will do it - you could be of max level and never specialize. It requires one to finish a grueling quest, multiple pvp tourneys, a clan war win, and be a certain level as well as having certain titles.
Am accepting suggestions for specializations.

Regions
Regions are basically the areas in which people go for world wars. Each region has their own beliefs and morals and each guild must choose a region. Regioned guilds do not fight amongst themselves.

Air: The free spirited region, they are all about creativity, expressing yourself, and learning new things. They believe in independence and self teaching. They also strongly believe in friendship and trust towards allies.

Amore: The region of pride. They are all about loyalty, strength, and discipline. They have strict rules and believe everyone should always fall in line behind their leader no matter what.

Brale: Brale is for the undecided. These people are mixed with all type of other people. Different morals, beliefs, the thing about Brale is not everyone tends to get along. They have their strong points though.

Paine: The region that is all about conquering and winning at all costs. They are ruthless, brutal, and will stop at nothing to get what they want. Mercy is not a word in their vocabulary, neither is quitting.

Clan Territory
Clan wars can end with clans having control over certain castles or territory, certain treasures and special things lay there. If one has won a clan war, for that week they gain a blue aura and a special costume that gives buffs should they choose to wear it - said costumes are blue as well but are customizable in looks. Castles hold gold, which is distributed however the leader wishes. Castles can NOT be lived in. Clan castle areas can tax people for profit from nearby npcs and shops. They are protected by npc guards, and during war times are surrounded by monsters.

Mounts:

Dragon (A): Those long long long skinny dragons o-o..
Dragon (B): Your typical dragon
Water dragon: (Only used for crossing bodies of water)
Cheetah
Leopard
Snow/white tiger
Tiger
Lion
Unicorn
Pegasus
Wolf
Horse
Large lizard

Pets: I'll allow anything you can think of really, but they have to be smaller in size - such as that their size cannot exceed that of a mount.

Some notes:

As for guilds, your guild rank and title are decided by the guild LEADER. However you choose which guild you would like to join. If anyone would like to be the leaders of a guild please do tell me. Your personal titles you can choose yourself, it's most likely lower levels will not have one. They don't really do anything, they just show accomplishments.

For specializations, only three characters max can have specialized, and for rouges, I will only accept two - and I am one of them.

When it comes to how the world looks, I encourage you to come up with that on your own, however, imagine the world just like earth - it is really that big, just full of monsters, magic, and more mysterious things.

There are things like events and tourneys. They are run by npcs or other staff that work for the creator (who is evil - someone want to play him/her?)

When it comes to guild wars, there are different kinds.

Region wars: Regions vs regions
Territory wars: Wars for castles - get things like gold, items, costumes, and special auras, as well as ability to tax
Individual guild wars - Your basic guild vs guild.

When it comes to alliances, you can only ally with someone in your region.

I've been looking for a 'virtual reality' RP for a while. I have one question though. Is this like in the comics where the players minds are getting 'sucked' into the game when they log in, or is it the bodies that enter the virtual space? I need to know since I was planning on a character with a physical disability. Would it still affect them in Avalbane or do they create an avatar that is completely independent from their actual bodies?

It's odd that something like this has come about, and as loathe as I am to throw a spanner in your carefully laid work. There is actually a series of books, though the name escapes me, which reminds me a whole lot of thie Role Play.

Other than that, I think it's a marvellous thing to attempt to achieve, especially when considering Virtual Reality Cyberspace; but I think you've got to go back and see if you can't make it a bit more original.

Re: Avalbane: When Games Become Reality (OOC/Open & Acceptin

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Fallen on Wed May 11, 2011 8:00 pm

Failkidd: I always have a hard time explaining this RP but I am going to try my best when I say this. Basically, they do have their minds sucked into said cyberspace, they know nothing of what is going on around their actual body. Their minds are then placed or they inhabit the bodies of the characters they created, but everything is so real to the point they indeed feel everything that happens in the game. Such as that, if one did not have healer in the game and a person could not endure everything or heal themselves somehow, they might end up in their actual body again keeled over or something like that - though they actually are okay.

However in the situation they are in now and I stress this, the virtual reality is now another world - and what I mean by that I guess you can imagine another planet, it is that big, that real and it exists because of the creator. Said creator now wants to destroy earth and make that Avalbane the only existing world/planet or whatever you would like to think it as. If your character had a physical disability, they would not have it in Avalbane, but they might go through the trouble of adapting without it (depending on what it was, I don't know.) They are in the body they created now, as for what happened to their actual bodies - that is completely character driven and we will play that out. As to start out, no one really knows though.

ImmortalD: Are you thinking of uh... .hack? If not then i don't know. I didn't base this off anything e_e. If it's similar to it or something or other than I am sorry, I think it is at least a little more creative than some things here ;3;.

Wait, so if you die in-game you return to Earth? I thought that if you die it was literally all over.
I have one more question.. What is the situation about the access to the game? I get that our characters cannot get out, but what about logging in? Or was there a specific time when the servers 'closed down' and cut off all access? And also, for how long have it been going on? Just in general terms like months or years.

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Fallen on Thu May 12, 2011 7:20 pm

No, if you die in game now you don't return to earth.
In the first paragraph in my previous post I was explaining how the game was.
Basically now, if you die, you die - period.
The exception is, guild wars and anything related to guild matter does not kill a person. (I didn't mention this though.)
It has been purposely set up not to do so to keep people entertained and such.
Things like the monsters, pk, and tournaments can - whether normal pvp does is unknown. And could you randomly murder someone in the game now - sure. Resurrection, is pointless except in guild battles. You can get injured and black out in the game in a guild battle though.

- People can still access the game, but as soon as they do they are trapped like everyone else. There is no game - outside of game communication or vice versa - with the exception of what the creator of the game does or his staff.

Being stuck just happened within a number of days. Whether or not you know about it is up to you.

Note: When it comes to hybrids and rouges I am going to explain something :<.

Hybrids don't mean having two classes, they mean having one class but fighting with perhaps a different style and weapon than the normal person of said class would. Like a healer that uses dual swords and fights close range and relies more on offensive skills. Hybrid isn't a class, but a way of building your character.

Rouges, are people that have two classes, and have mastered both class skills - people who are rouges have been in the game longer than most - such as alpha or beta stage, if they specialize, then it would only be possible from alpha. If you are making a hybrid rouge, the only point of putting hybrid in front of your character would be if you used weapons and or gear not for your class or fought differently.

Bios, when we get more people I do expect bios and all the friends, foes, clans etc to be filled out xD.

You would be thinking of the .//hack trilogy.
Which I'm so elegantly named after.
This Roleplay is amazing, by the way. I'm just curious to know, or suggest for that matter; I think, personally viewing, that it would add more depth to the plot if not ALL players were sucked into the game.
For example, when in game some realize that they can't log out. Those are the one's stuck. Any other player would be able to log out, with the exception of those who are stuck in the world of the game.

And also a question: Can a player message, in ways, another player?
Regardless of whether you're stuck inside, does the idea and mechanics stay the same?

I'd hate to ask a question already answered, but it's 6 a.m. and I must be attending prom in a few hours!

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Fallen on Sat May 14, 2011 7:17 am

I suppose we could do that as well, I have nothing against it - maybe I could put it to a vote when I get more people D:
As for messaging, I was going to make all types of messaging - apart from the creator's side, down.
Therefor you could only communicate with people if you were with them.
But well, since the game was created into an actual world - would there be a need for messaging in the first place :0. <-- more of the creators thinking though >_>'.

I just realized lol (it's five am and I haven't slept so /facepalm)
If we did your idea, only some people would be stuck in said WORLD -- it not being a game anymore but a full blown fully operational world :).
Could still work though.

And yeah the idea is basically the same other than ..if you die you're completely dead forever.
With the exception of the guild battles. Which for whatever reason people don't die in and can be resurrected - though if you aren't resurrected you're doomed. Oh the difference is now the world gets more added to it day by day. Moreso than when it was just a game.

Sorry if I am bad at explaining I've changed this RP so many times it gets confusing after a while XD.

PROM! Tell me how that went XP
I never went to mine :x..

Well, I plan to start the RP when we get a few more people - I had wanted a lot more XP.
As for friends, you can plan here if you want to have known anyone, or you can not know anyone and leave it blank its up to you - please fill out your bios though. Also, please change your in game picture to a [img] code. So everyone can see the picture without having to click it.

As for outside display -- the creator and staff have outside display, whether or not players that aren't logged in and aren't stuck do or others, is completely up to you guys...i want this to be a little character driven. I otherwise would have been a lot more descriptive of everything.

And please no one forget, that world has become reality now, a whole seperate world. So it's no a game even remotely, unless you are not logged in and not aware. Just remember that OTL.

Also I would like a vote on Viral's idea, he said perhaps we could make it to where some people can go in and out of the world, but others are stuck.

Also, if you guys could put a little more description in your personalities, and make 100x100 icons for your profile, that would be lovely.

Lastly, as for residential, if I didn't state you can live there in the town list, then you can't live there. Also, not everyone will live somewhere, it USED to be a game after all.

Also guilds, I need some people to be in guilds, feel free to organize them here.

Fallen I appreciate the fact that you want a good start for Avalbane, but what the heck. It's gonna be a little bit difficult to get a lot more people since Avalbane isn't advertised anywhere to my knowledge. Not in your sig, couldn't find it in the roleplayers wanted forum either.
I'm quite fine with waiting for an RP to start, don't get me wrong. I'm just saying, you need to speed up the process a little. Not to sound harsh but at this rate we're not going to start at all :P

This sounds very interesting. Although you say no anime pics, almost all of them, including you have one. xD
The no cursing thing might be kinda hard for my character I'm planning on making. Can we still use words like "damn"?
Are we allowed crossbows instead of bows?
This all seems kind of complicated, and took me like almost a half hour to read, but making the character should be fun.
One last question. Can we choose how our character shows up/appears in the Roleplay. Like in the middle of time kind of thing. Or do we basically start out in any town or something that we choose to live in?

Edit: Sorry didn't read the other comments before I posted this one, so nvm about the dying in real life thing, if you read that.
Anyway, I plan on making a Hybrid who specializes in crossbow/rapier swordmenship(Sort of like a main-handed weapon, no off-handed weapon guy). Please tell me if its ok to. xP
Another cool class to add to would be a Reaver, bascially someone who uses their own life energy to fight. Constantly using their life energy as a weapon, and gaining it back by slashing down opponents. Basically a kind of character that take a gamble in a fight. P.S. Sorta stole this from Dragon Age, but couldn't resist mentioning it, sense you have Templar as a class. Also Berserkers are good. Their power comes from their rage, and improves their ability to fight.

I had made this RP several times and I took the rules from the wrong one u_u.
I removed the realistic picture thing, as well as the cursing rule - so go crazy.
(My character needed that removed anyways.)

Well..you will start in Avalbane somewhere - anywhere.
Or...you can start on earth, just starting to log into avalbane -- only to completely end up in that world after doing so.
Your character is fine - although I would like if you could make your personality and bio a bit longer.
And I like those two classes you brought up, I will probably add them for specializations.

And uh, like I said somewhere before, not everyone has a residential area there.
Dx
And we need to start making clans/guilds -- or even friends XD.
Unless no one wants to know each other.

Oh btw, can you change the numbers on your abilities to things like strong, weak, poor, etc?
And magical defense and defensive magic is different. Magical defense is defense against magic, defensive magic is like magical skills that are defensive in natural or on the supportive side.

Why don't we split up in one or two groups instead of starting off anywhere we'd like? Like.. randomized parties for an event quest of some sort. That way we can skip the usual awkward introduction phase and go straight to the action, and whatever we chose to do about guilds or alliances won't necessarily matter yet.

Hey one question. How many people do we need before starting?

My character may or may not have submitted... my computer kinda spazzed out and... well, if it didn't, let me know, I'll do it again. All. Over. Again...
