Invasion of the Qua"
On the outskirts of civilized space, a small star system with a struggling colony of humans wakes to another dawn. Aboard the small space station that orbits the planet, a screen blinks for a few moments attracting the attention of the officer on duty. As she scans the readings, her eyes grow wide, “Holy shit!” Lieutenant j.g. Caldez mutters as she punches the screen and plays back the last few minutes, isolating and targeting specific images and data.
“Oh this is not good, not good.” the woman hisses as she presses a red button on the console which quickly blares aloud a warning klaxon waking the rest of the stations crew. The shouts and cursing that filled the station made its way slow to the bridge where Captain Andropov, bleary-eyed stumbled into the combat control center, “Sitrep and I mean now!” he snarled towards the junior officer.
Caldez gulped as she hastily saluted the captain and nodded towards the monitors. Wiping the sleep from his eyes, Andropov's eyes grew wide as the images and readings continued to race across the screen. Turning back to her he grunted, “You checked these readings?” The woman nodded “Yessir I have, three times in fact and every time the data comes back with even more fantastic readings.” Inhaling deeply the burly captain grit his teeth and checked the logs for ships in the area, his eyes lit up slightly as he spotted the name of a ship that was a few light years away, pressing the intercom he shouted, “I want a transmission sent to the Xindhi Cruiser Voided Lights, its a few years away and can get here in time.” A static “Aye-aye” was the acknowledgment.
Whirling the captain eyed his senior officers, “Alright the situation is this we have an unknown object headed this way. I say object because we don't know what the hell it is, but its moving towards us. The readings we have are it is metallic and there are radio signals that are being emitted from it.” Pausing the captain looked at the others, “It's also 1/3 the size of Old Earth's Moon...” The others stood astonished, “I want a fighter PAD up in less than four minutes and the settlers need to be alerted. We have an unknown heading this way and it could be hostile.”
The officers nodded and saluted before rushing off to their stations. One tall, lanky officer held back, his gray hair and steely eyes focused on the captain, “Pitor, if that thing is as big as the scans say it dwarfs the Xindhi ships, which are among the largest and most powerful ships we know of.” The captain nodded, his eyes locked on the screens before him. “I know Stan, I know. But if anyone can buy us time to get the settlers sheltered it's them.” Stan Wzesck nodded and tossing a half-hazard salute jogged down towards the hanger bays. Once there he looked into the faces of the two dozen pilots that were stationed aboard the orbiting ship as defense.
“Alright boys, we have an unknown headed this way, but it is a massive unknown and it could be hostile. We're to fly a Planetary Aided Defense. We have hopes a Xindhi Cruiser can get here to handle the object should it come down to that.” The pilots and crews began to murmur and shuffle about, the Xindhi were still one of the weirdest races in the multiverse and their presence was disturbing to many. Glancing at each pilot before continuing, Stan inhaled a moment, “God speed to you all, dismissed.” With a sharp salute he turned and went to the flight control station, as the pilots scrambled to their ships. It was going to be a long day. As he reached his command chair the intercom buzzed, the voice of his old friend Pitor was full of dread as he heard “All hands, all hands the object has dispatched large craft. We count at least six objects leaving the larger unknown and they are headed this way. Battle Stations! Battle Stations!”
Eying the monitors, Stan grimaced as the read outs flooded him with disturbing information. Glancing at his pilots as their single engine fighters began launching, he uttered a small prayer that the Xindhi made it in time. From the deeps of space the far-flung Qua Empire as entered the RPG Multiverse, consuming a few minor planets on the very edges of civilized space. Their vast armadas are bent on conquer and enslavement of the races on the planets they sail across.
The Qua Empire is a conglomerate of races that have been absorbed by the Qua, a race of beings ruled by a council of advisers to their God-King Ahur-Imtep. The Qua are bent on stripping every planet that can sustain life of its elements and the life energies of the species that inhabit these planets. War has come to the vast multiverse...which side will you be on? Will you defend your loved ones, world and the Multiverse from the Qua? Or will you join them in their quest to subjugate all life to their tyranny?
The writer who cares more about words than about characters, action, setting, atmosphere is unlikely to create a vivid and continuous dream; he gets in his own way too much; in his poetic drunkenness, he can't tell the cart- and its cargo- from the horse.

The first planet where characters can encounter the Qua has been established as well as an opportunity for space faring nations or independents can engage the Qua in space. Escape is possible from the planet so don't worry about being trapped there.

I have started activity but am waiting to see if those who expressed interest in being allies of the Qua finalize their plans before I start doing more invasions activities in the forum and chat.

Alright- Well I talked with Para and we both decided it would be best to move this to the forum- to gather more interest and to make sure we do not lose any posts during this role-play. That being said here is the new thread:

There is a list of both Qua and Xindhi ships in the Guilds/organization section. However here are the basics of the Voided Lights:
Also note they have a manned fighter complement from the task force aboard numbering 35 fighters, supplemental their own unmanned craft, giving them a total of 77 fighter, fighter/bombers.
I am looking forward to seeing if anyone else picks ups the transmissions and comes to help fend off this mother ship/harvester before the Darashal system goes down.
Type: Xindhi Ship of the Line- Cruiser Anti-ship: Harbringer Class (52)

Probably should have looked a bit more, sorry about that. Thanks though for the info. AP ships will probably just provide support since the AP cruisers come in at anywhere from 2-4 km, and the're the biggest AP ships in system right now.

Alright since we are now engaged in conflict that will eventually lead to encounters between characters, here are the rules for NPCs and what happens with them.
All Characters can influence and control up to 10 minor NPC units if they able to and one named NPC.
A PC can summon reinforcement NPC's at a rate of 1-10 every three posts from the previous summons, if they are able.
NPC's can auto-hit other NPC's but not a PC and with the exception of the named NPC the writers can dictate damage and deaths within reason to minor NPC's in their attack posts.
All Characters can summon 1 named NPC per every 5 posts from the previous summons.
One named NPC is more robust and tougher, thus able to handle themselves much better and are able to deal with minor NPC's like a PC.
A PC can auto-hit and kill NPC's when they attack NPC's and this does not take away from their actions or attacks against another PC.
NPC's have to be explained here in the OOC or listed on the Nation's sheet before they are employed. So either link the nation or explain them.

Those rules seem reasonable and fair, but I do have one question. Would groups of 'units' (example fighters, soldiers, or even capital ships) arranged and acting as one group, like a fleet of ships or a squad of soldiers or a wing of fighters, be considered one NPC and treated as such?

NPC rules clarification and explanation:
Capital ships being named vehicles can be considered Named NPCs, while fighters and escort vessels can be considered minor NPCS. When dealing with large scale combat the command and control is given leeway to facilitate the larger scale of battle. However in direct conflicts between named PCs and their npcs the rules should be followed to simulate the flow of battle while not detracting from the PC's and their actions.
Thus any ship with a Player Character will be considered a Named NPC and can actually fall under direct control of the PC if they so wish. While fighter wings can fight and destroy one another in descriptive ways that portray the intensity of battle, but caution must be given as to not seem to be god-mode the minor NPCs to always have a particular side win every encounter. Common sense and an understanding of the numbers involved should be taken into account.
As far as ground units a unit for our purposes of command can number 10 each thus a PC can command up to 100 NPC's in blocks of ten that can be engaged by the other writer as flavor text for the battles. This allows a reasonable amount of non-PC action that can give the feel for the scale of the battles involved. However all ground based encounters can be discussed and smaller scale special forces operations can be conducted with both sides agreeing to the parameters of unit size and reinforcements.
Does that help?

Yes that does, thanks for clearing that up. I'm no stranger to tactical combat by post, but usually those participating have enough common sense to know when a npc is out gunned and should be destroyed and when their own 'units' are suseptable to destruction. Usually our rules are well know enough by the participants that they don't have to be written down, but I would not wish to cause any grief with my posting and so I will make sure that my post and actions fall with in the parameters laid out in the rules.

There are some new to this style of RP so I wanted to make it easy enough to pick up while allowing veterans the flexibility to write compelling combat with characters and npcs.

My apologies for holding Chapter One up. I had hoped to get my post done and up today but alas things have not gone as planned. Take comfort though as I am working on it little bits at a time and hopefully will get it done and up tomorrow.

This is an open Multiverse role-play. It is free for anyone to join, however anyone who wishes to join the Qua have to be approved by me. To join the allied forces you must simply create a plausible post that would place your forces in or near one of the two systems currently under attack.
