Introduction
Eight years ago, the Conclave of the Marked came into being. A gathering of the superhuman, and in some cases the super-rich, determined to fight back crime in our world and maintain the peace of humanity. Some were created by the mind of a single man, the one they call the Father, a brilliant scientist who transformed other men into weapons for good. Others came from places most can hardly imagine – from the skies, from space, from alternate dimensions.
Heroes, man calls them. They are not heroes. They are warriors for justice, unafraid to do what it takes to overcome their enemies, unafraid to take the blame when something – anything – goes wrong. They are men and women of honor and power, who put others before themselves. Role models. People who should be admired. The five heroes of the Conclave will be forever immortalized in the hopes and legends of mankind.
Not all of them, however, are immortal.
Recently, some of the gathered heroes became aware that they are beginning to age. They realized that someday they will no longer be able to fight. They will break, or they will die, and the world will be without heroes once more. Cruelty and injustice will reign supreme, and the glory of the Conclave will crumble around the heads of man. They could not allow for this. After all their hard work, they could not permit justice to fall to the wayside.
They needed children. Someone younger to take over their mission, to continue the search for justice and peace on earth. They knew it was simply impractical to try and have children on their own – nine months out of the job, years to raise them, more to train them, by the time the children were ready the world would already have been thrown into chaos. No, they needed children like they had been . Children created by someone like the Father, forged in his lab, or pulled from other worlds where their lives were chaos, given a new purpose.
The Conclave began work in the Father’s lab, creating young heroes for the future. While they waited for the created ones to grow, they scoured the far corners of the planet, other planets, other dimensions. They found them, saved them from lives which were hell, and brought them back to begin a new life under the tutelage of the Conclave. They named them the Children of the Conclave, took them (sometimes literally) under their wings, trained them. This was three years ago. More have joined the Children since, of their own accord, or found by a wandering hero. The ranks of the Children have grown, their training ahs been successful.
Now… it is time that they begin their own work for justice. Starting small, of course.
Based on an island off the coast of New England, the heroes of the Conclave live out their lives in relative obscurity. They come to the island for meetings, to gather missions, but most of the time they live mundane lives under secret identities, working and thriving in cities and towns just like the rest of humanity. A few exceptions, of course, live out their every day in the subterranean Base – those whose ‘marks’, as the Father called them, are too visible, who could not hid amongst humans even if they wanted to, and thus do not need a second identity. To accommodate those who must live in seclusion, the Base expands across much of the island, including sleeping quarters and game rooms, pools and training halls and a massive kitchen. Plenty of places to live and work and play.
The Children, like their hero mentors, may choose where they wish to live. They can exist alongside humanity, or they can reside within the Base. Some of them may even bounce back and forth between the two. They will spend the majority of their time, however, training together and building the bonds that will someday keep them all alive through their heroic works.
Within the Conclave there are five heroes – the original five – who will participate in the training of the Children. You can see the list below.
• Blue Bane – Created by the Father. He is a defensive-based hero with shielding capabilities, both physical and mental. His skin is acidic to the touch, and so he covers himself completely at all times. His kiss is venomous. He is considered the leader of the group, as the eldest and most accomplished. He is a surprisingly friendly person, for being completely poisonous. The “blue” part of his name comes from the tint of his skin – he is dark-skinned, but streaked in zebra-like blue patterns, like the warning stripes on a butterfly’s wings. He has no second identity, unable to go out into the world.
• Blazeon – From another dimension, saved by the Father from inter-dimensional slavery. A being made entirely of fire, she is extremely difficult to hit. After all, when you punch a flame, it simply reforms. She hast to stay away from water-battles, however, which makes living on an island awkward. Or would, if she could not fly. (Hey, heat rises, right?) The only reason anyone knows that she is female is because she says she is – she does not speak except into the minds of others, having no noticeable mouth. She can take a solid human form, though she hates to do it. She wanders the world under the guise of a redhead beauty named Elizabeth Charles.
Sidekick - Fever (Angel Avis)
• Moon Fang – The super-rich daughter of a high-end Japanese crime-boss. Her father does not know that she has turned on him – he thinks all the money he is giving her is going to fancy clothes. Well, it is, in a way. It paid for the complete genetic modification of his daughter. With the ears and tail of a wolf, it can be a little difficult for her to hide from society, but as long as she keeps her tail tucked and her hat on she does alright. She has the carrying voice of the wolf, making her the Conclave’s alarm call, as well as the claws and teeth. She can appear more wolf than human, capable of transforming to the degree that she runs on four legs, and much faster than most humans. She is super strong – she has been nicknamed a werewolf, but no one dares to say it to her face. Her second identity is Tsukiura Nana, the daughter of a yakuza boss.
• Yin Yang – A dark hero, he has no powers, only his training and his sword. A master of the arts of Tai-Chi and Kung Fu, he works for the balance of the world. He is the most difficult to get to act, because he only seems to go after the truly large disruptions. He has complete mastery over his chi, capable of projecting it through people and throwing them several yards away from him. He has also studied Chinese medicine and pressure points, and is capable of quick, incapacitating blows. He is, in a way, the group’s most accomplished assassin. His second identity is Chen Cunxin, a Chinese doctor based out of New York’s Chinatown.
Sidekick - The Black Deceiver (Damion Spencer)
• Skybolt – The Conclave’s biggest idiot, he is a notorious flirt and troublemaker, but he is useful so the others keep him around. A storm-based hero, he can mess with the weather, fly on the wind and throw electricity from his palms. He is not always the best at aiming said electricity, but throw it he can. His most useful ability is probably the fact that his wind-currents do not have to carry only him – he can sweep others up in them as well, and he has taught the other heroes how to ride his currents almost as skillfully as he does. His second identity is that of a bartender in Boston, who is constantly in trouble for flirting and cracking bad or sexual jokes. His name is Rob Nelson.
