Introduction
The year is 1927, and the world is a booming and beautiful place. Golden necklaces and diamond rings favor women who are clad in fine fur coats. Velvet hats dance on men’s well groomed heads while their fingers fuss with new cigars. Spoiled children suck on lollipops the size of their heads, holding the hands of their mothers as they watch with wondering awe at the people who live on the streets.
It is a time of grandeur and wealth, of opportunity and change. But it is also a time of greed, secrecy, and the gritty truth.
Due to the overpopulation of New York City there is a flux of orphans. Not just orphans, but waifs, half-orphans, and the abused. Since the 1850s a program called Orphan Trains has transported thousands of unlucky children out of the East and into the Mid-West. These children are carted from town to town and shown across the country to a variety of people. Most kids end up living in large farm families, but a lucky few are plucked out to live with wealthy doctors or bankers.
The program was made in good faith and continued to blossom and provide for the children of America. However, through the roar of the early 20’s and with a change in authority, the Orphan Trains began to lose their spotless reputation. By 1925 the system was still thriving, but in its own quietly corrupt way. Children still get placed in new homes and the staff members still get paid, but the money that is supposed to circulate back into the program is stolen little by little by the supervisors and upper men. Because of this greed, the conditions on the train are unpredictable. What once was an awkward meet and greet during the adoption show has become a sort of child auction. The interior of the train cars are the surviving bits of the third original orphan train, the food is lousy or sometimes missing, and the rules of the train (and its enforcers) have grown to be strict and unforgiving.
Here on the Malcolm Train, the fifth and last train on the program, comes a story of interest. Tension is rising between the staff members and deception is lurking at every corner.
FC: Keira Knightly (in Atonement)
Age: 23
Occupation: Nurse, gives out shots and pills, bandages cuts and banged up knees, checks children’s teeth and general health

Backstory: The Nurse has grown very attached to Calvin and doesn’t want to see him off. This strong connection has her thinking of adoption, but the reality of doing so is nearly impossible. First she would need to marry, and the rules of the Malcolm Train strictly forbid adoption of a child without a permanent home. Much work is to be done if this little nurse wants to get her way.

Because of her past no one was willing to adopt her, but after proving that she was good with the youngest children the Supervisor hired her on (though it’s also rumored as a personal favor.) During her younger days she was quite handsy with the older men on board, but she's simmered down a since then.

The two are brother and sister who didn’t want to be separated by the system, so the Priest has set them up with his cousin in Ohio. He can only hope that they make it that far without being discovered. Though he holds one secret from the Supervisor, he keeps another secret from the law. Her extreme beauty is matched only by her charm and manipulation. She follows her husband’s orders like he’s her master, and despite their violent episodes and misunderstandings they somehow always make up. However, the Teacher still has a flicker in her eye for the Agent, who was once was her sweetheart.

With his small group of assistants he manages to get the dirt on everyone, and forgiveness is rare in him. He is cruel and greed has blinded his true role on this train. The Supervisor perhaps has the biggest secret of them all. The Malcolm train is no long part of the orphan train program, now the money that’s being made from the adoption shows is being made into personal profit.

A little inspiration taken from Water for Elephants, and Orphan Train, though I’ve not actually read it. I did some research on this part of American history but I really don’t have a good base knowledge of it, therefore things in this RP wouldn’t really be historically accurate. Sorry if that’s a problem for you.
These are the base characters, which means there is a tiny bit of room for a special character here and there if you so desire, though I don’t want to inflate the cast too much. However, if you feel so inclined, the NPC children are up for grabs.
I spent a long time trying to find face claims that were at least kind of in the right time period, so if you want to change a face claim please ask first and make sure that the new face claim has some semi period appropriate garb in gifs and or pictures.
Character sheets have a reservation period of 24 hours. This means I want at least a mostly finished WIP. After that point your sheet needs to be done in the next two days. The sooner you get a completed sheet in the better, because reservations will be competitive.
This is a literate RP. If you can’t give me a quality post of at least 300-400 words (more is preferred) then I cannot accept you. I understand shorter posts for dialogue and writers block and so on, but I will pester you if you’re getting lazy with your posts.
Creativity is key to the survival of RPing. If you have an idea or a plot point you want to put in, just do it! I only ask that if your idea is game changing you come to me first to get it approved.
If you have any questions feel free to PM me, and thanks for your interest if you’ve gotten this far. Happy RPing!

Also keep in mind that there are still a couple of roles open. With that being said, pester your friends, or shamelessly advertise. Because the sooner we fill these spots the sooner we can start!

Sugar, I did say that the kids were up for grabs so go ahead and make a character sheet if you want.
Things are looking good everyone, though I won't be accepting any sheets until they are completely finished. Also remember that the roles are competitive, that means your sheet is like an audition and should be the best of your ability, and that someone else can very well reserve the same character.
