The year is 2021 The Earth is teetering on the edge of global war, When Suddenly the earth goes dark, An unknown enemy has sent out a destructive virus the likes of which has never been seen. It crippled every computer connected to the internet in less than three hours, continuing on to destroy the control systems for power grids across the globe, Then crippling weapons control systems (99% of the worlds military power is now unmanned) Disabling satellites rendering cellphone's useless. Effectively The earth has been returned to the dark ages within a matter of days And no one knows who is responsible. The masses are rioting in the streets the world is in mass chaos. The governments of the world have vanished from view leaving the masses to govern themselves, It's not working too well. Now in rural southern Oregon an area that is coping with the crises better than others there is word of another virus but this one targets humans, Nicknamed Sand for its fast mutation rate the virus spreads through physical contact it can only be transferred by touching another human being as it dies quickly in open air, It has a two week gestation period during which there are no symptoms as that two weeks comes to an end the host suffers excruciating migraines and stomach pain for two to three days during this time the virus is killing the hosts cells and replacing them with its own, near the three week mark the host begins to become numb and has an increasing urge to be near other humans, at this stage the virus has broken the Brain/Blood barrier and is wreaking havoc within the central nervous system When the four week mark hits the host has lost most brain functionality and will die within 48 hours of the four week mark There are no known exceptions at this time. The plot revolves around a group of friends and strangers (no more than ten) who flee southern Oregon In search of a safe haven from the plague.
