The Story So Far... Write a Post » as written by 4 authors
Lanie reads some books in the library of the castle. She is often in there alone. "Lady Lanie! Your mother wishes to speak with you.", A butler opens the library doors. Lanie looks over to the butler, and rises from her chair, brushing of her dress. She walks past the butler and into the long corridors of the castle. Soon she encounters a door in a pale shade of white with gold handles allowing her to enter the room. Lanie knocks on the door 3 times and a faint, feminine voice calls, "You may enter." She indeed enters, and encounters a beautiful woman with long, scarlet, hair. "Oh! Lanie, I meant to speak with you about something,", the woman, which is the queen of the kingdom, starts. "Don't you think it's about time you go out and find some friends? How about you go to the village with your dear sister Lilly?", She smiles. Lanie makes eye contact with her mother, and quickly turns away, walking out of the room stating, "Why would I do such rubbish. Friends will only stab you in the back, and they will be a burden to you. Good day, mother." Her mother sighs as she closes the big, white doors to her parents' bedroom. She continued her day, reading and reading. She ended up finishing 5 long chapter books. One of those books stood out to her. A book about a goddess that grants time and life to all. Her name was Milanne. In fact, it was her favorite books out of all the others she has read.
It was now night, and Lanie layed in her bed, looking at the sleeping figure on the other side of the room, her twin sister Lilly. She couldn't seem to sleep, and it was bothering her. "Do I really need friends? Will it help?", she whispered to herself, as she pondered on the thought. She soon closed her eyes and drifted off into a deep sleep. Lanie could see nothing but darkness and black, but a small light shined before her. A beautiful woman with white hair, that almost looked holy, and she wore a long dress of white cloth. She walked out of the light and stood before Lanie. "Child, I need your help. My powers are fading, and you, along with 5 others must save me, and Espio from falling into the hands of the demon lord, Gilose. The other source of power left of me is a yellow, glowing life potion in the magical forest that is north from Athen. It is abandoned so beware of the wild creatures that lurk it's acres of land. Be careful, my child. Goodbye...", the woman's voice faded, and the dream ended. An amazing adventure would start the next day...
Today had been a very unfortunate day for Kari, she had been attacked by a group of humans that had finally managed to get the best of her. Despite her best efforts slashing at them with her powerful talons and her ear pricing shrieks the group contained her in a cage. She hated cages. Cages were horrible metal death traps that transported their victims into unknown lands, where they'd either be killed or suffer a fate worse than death. Kari had seen too many taken away like this, she was one of the last of her kind and refused to go down without a fight. Even while contained she continued her murderous screeches as they transported her into the city of Athens.
Athens was known to be a beautiful city, filled with wonder. That wonder of course came from the near by magical forest Kari called home. To the people of Athens the forest was beautiful, magical, and most of all terrifying. Only the bravest humans entered and only the lucky came out and the extra lucky came out with a prize, a unique creature. Sometimes these creatures were harmless, but had beautiful furs, others were considered a delicacy, and some were dangerous and the people would try to tame them so they could be used for entertainment. Yes, Athens was the place to go for these special creatures and now Kari was at the city's mercy. Would they kill her for her feathers? Would they make her a special attraction, or maybe they'd just keep her isolated and pluck her feather while she was still alive. All Kari knew was that she didn't want to find out what they were planning. She had to escape and quick.
Once in Athens the group reached a storage area where they placed Kari's cage down. By now it was late at night and the humans didn't want to deal with her again until morning, however they just couldn't get her to stop shrieking and trying to attack them. "She's going to wake the whole darn city up, if we don't shut her up now!" one of the men said in a harsh tone. "Don't you have something to quiet her down?"
"I'm getting to it," another man said as he bent down to reach something that Kari could only perceive to be some kind of weapon, she just screamed louder. The man lifted the long instrument and shot something at her. Kari began to feel slightly dizzy and soon she could no longer hear her own voice. She fell onto her side and her eyes started to close despite her best effort to keep them open. As her eyes were closing she could faintly hear one of the men, "Happy now?! I shut her up, she'll be sleeping like a baby now until morning," and with that she was asleep.
While sleeping Kari had a dream. In this dream a beautiful angelic woman came to her. "I will help get you out of this predicament, but in return I need your help as well. Use the power that I have unlocked within you to free yourself and find five others. Once you have found them return to your home and lead them to a glowing potion. With this potion you can help save Espio. I'm out of time... I'm fading... Good bye and good luck..." The woman was gone, leaving Kari alone in her dream world to ponder what the woman had said. She didn't really want to save Espio, but she did want out of this cage. Then again if Espio was in danger that meant her forest was too and she couldn't have that. Her thoughts were racing and then she remember that she was dreaming, so when she would awake none of this would matter anyways. The woman wasn't even real and there was no way that she all of a sudden had special powers. Still she thought it may be worth a try to at least pretend she had powers in the morning, that is if she even remembered any of this.
At this same moment in Fernonβ¦.
Ranon had been given leave as not only his squad but everyone in his battalion was wiped out. Rannon had been one of two survivors, the other survivor Marcus was now laying in a medical bed, They still donβt know if heβll make it. Even after a week Marcus has shown no improvement. Ranon took advantage of this leave and after a week of recouping he had decided he was going to maybe travel for the remainder. Ranon didnβt really care where he ended up, Just wanted to get away from here, The stench of blood had never been so thick in the air around Fernon and that was mostly the blood of his brothers and sisters in arms. Not like his dad Kasarat would mind him leaving, all this ambush did to Kasarat was give him too much paperwork, especially since now he had to find a new place to put Ranon that wouldnβt end in yet another CO demanding the little punks head due to insubordination.
Ranon had spent the day gathering provisions and the like from around town. The townβs people all seemed to congratulate him on surviving, give sympathy for his loss, or avoid him completely. The news of the ambush wasnβt exactly secret. It seemed like it was the talk of the town, and as Ranon walked he heard the whispers of the βlegendβ it had become through whispers he heard βDid you hear? A whole battalion wiped out there are only two living survivorsβ said one man to another in a bar, his drinking buddy responded βoh yeah I heard. Someone told me that one guy took out half of the onslaught by himself. But come on, no one could fight that many monsters and come out unscathedβ βno I heard that too, wasnβt it Ranon the son of the captain of the guard?β βYeah that was him.β Ranon ignored the rest of the conversation, He hadnβt fought off half, not by himself the only reason he was as wound free as he was, was because of his men. They jumped in the way to protect him they killed monsters as they came to attack him and of course he did the same for them as best he could, But they all protected him. Because he was the leader, Ranon whispered under his breath βIdiotsβ as he held back tears for his fallen companions
After the long day he went back to his room everything ready to leave in the morning. His father came in to his room Ranon of course stood saluting his commander. βComander Cardona sir what can I do for you sir?β Ranon chanted in that military fashion. βPut that hand down sonβ Kasarat said βIβm not here as your commander Iβm here as your father. Iβm sorry I couldnβt visit before now.β Ranon took his hand down and sat on his bed βI understand sir; to be honest I wasnβt expecting you anyway.β He said. Kasarat sat next to Ranon βI know itβs hard losing your men. And I see you packedβ Kasarat said motioning toward the bag that lay before him. βHow long where you planning on goingβ βJust until my leave is up sir. No more than a monthβ Ranon responded. βRanon youβre a good fighter, but a horrible soldier and a worse morner. You take the time you need and when youβre ready you come back, no earlier, no later you understand?β Kasarat said looking at his son with pained eyes. Ranon looked up at his father with a small smile. βI appreciate that sir. Iβll do as you commandβ¦ just this once though I wouldnβt want you thinking Iβve become obedient or anythingβ Ranon finished the comment with a joking lilt and a smile. Kasarat smiled and exited the room with nothing more than a nod toward his son.
Ranon then took to his nightly routine which ended with looking in the mirror running his hands through his jet black hair and saying βone more day down. Youβve got allot to go for those you lost. Keep fightingβ and with that Ranon headed to bed. His dreams started as normal or at least normal for his current state. He dreamt of the night of the ambush the sounds, the smells, the feeling of loss he felt as he watched his brothers and sisters fall. But this time it was different, In the middle of this conflict a woman, a glowing angelic woman came down to him and as she did the battle, the bodies, everything else except Ranon and this woman disappeared from existence. The woman came down to him and told him. βRanon the world needs you to fight. There is a great danger and they are going to need a flame. That flame is you Ranon the dragon will burn inside of you, you must harness it and be the fang that fights for me and our world dear Ranonβ Ranon looked confused at the woman and said βWhat are you talking about?β the angelic woman smiled and said βI donβt have time to explain everything. Just be the flameβ and with that she was gone. Ranon felt a heat come from his chest and burst quickly through his whole body. It felt like he had been engulfed in flames and heat. Ranon woke in a sweat, But as this was normal for battle worn soldier he thought nothing of it. That was until he went to his sink rinsed in cold water and looked up into the mirror to see his hair had become a crimson red and his eyes burned orange. Perhaps this was more than a dream after all.
"I won!" a little boy yelled.
"No! I did!" a girl in her tweens replied.
"Nonesense! I was first!" a boy in his early teens said.
"Well... perhaps not having a line watcher was a bad idea." Lilly said. "And we always lose the finish line ribbons."
"Lilly! Why don't you go as the line watcher? Just once more?" an older girl asked.
"Line watching. It's just like running, but you don't actually run... or have fun." Lilly replied.
"Come on! Pweeaaasee!" a little girl begged.
Lilly sighed and gave in - just as always. It wasn't only about line watching. When it came to something none of the children wanted, they stopped drawing out sticks long time ago, as the purple-haired princess always agreed to save the rest. There was one particular reason why none of them wanted to be a line watcher. It wasn't only because of the lack of running.
"Hector won." Lilly announced.
"YES!" the teenage boy yelled in joy.
"Come on! You've mistaken! I'm the winner!"
"No! I am!"
"I was first!"
After some time of arguing the children decided to play a different game - this was something usual. Soon the night was getting near and everyone went to their respective homes. Lilly returned to the castle and stumbled upon her father.
"Did you find the last ribbon?" he asked.
"Nope." Lilly replied, causing the king to sigh.
"You must be more caring to the things you give other people. Okay, I understand. Your friends have lost four ribbons brought by you. What's next? Lending someone the whole kingdom, but they never bring it back to you?"
"Don't worry about me, dad. I'll watch over things,"
"And how come you're the princess and they command you to do things?"
"Come on. They don't command me,"
"No wonder Lanie stays all day long here, reading books. She doesn't want to go trough what you're going trough. She doesn't want to be pushed around by some peasants just like you are. See you at dinner."
As the night came, Lilly went to her bed.
"Commanded? Pushed around? I'm not being pushed around by other people. What's dad talking about? I just want to avoid conflict between my friends." the girl thought before closing her eyes.
Soon appeared a glowing woman in Lilly's dreams, hypnotizing the princess with her beauty. The purple haired girl couldn't stop looking at her, yet she listened to every single spoken word.
"I need you. I need you and others who have seen me and heard my task to save Espio. The whole world is endangered by..."
"The demon called Gilose." Lilly murmured in her sleep. "Yellow orb... Athen..."
Lilly's eyes slowly opened. Suddenly, she stood up in a sitting position.
"Lanie?" she whispered to her sister. "Oh, Lanie! You're awake!" her voice went normal.
"You will never believe what dream I had just now!"
Lanie sat up in bed and looked over to her sister who had just waken up. "Oh, Lanie! You're awake!" Lilly started. "You will never believe what dream I had just now!" Lanie brushed purple strands of hair out of her face.
"What exactly was this dream you had about?" Lilly got of bed and jumped up and down. "There was this beautiful maiden, and she said I have to save Espio! Who knew I had such an imagination!?" Lanie went wide-eyed and jumped out of bed running over to her sister. "Oh my! I had the same dream!" She exclaimed.
"Do you think it's real?" Lanie asked as Lilly danced around her full of energy. "Of course it is, silly! If we both had this dream!"
"Ok, so do you know how we are supposed to save her?" Lilly crossed her arms on her chest.
"Yes, she told me a life potion was in a forest north from Athen." Lanie got dressed.
"Well let's go ask if we can go to Athen!" Lilly dragged Lanie out of their bedroom and to their parents' bedroom.
The twins didn't tell them the real reason why they wanted to go, but luckily the King and Queen allowed them to go. As the girl's packed up, Lanie noticed something peculiar. Whenever she got close to a lit area, it would get darker. She shook off the thought and continued to pack up clothes.
The packing was soon done with, and a carriage carried their luggage and themselves to Athen. The twins suddenly glanced at one another with worried expressions. "I feel something, or someone... somebody like us in a way..." Lanie whispered. Lilly nodded. The carriage had stopped, and the girls stepped out of the carriage. They would soon help a little someone that saw the dream as well....
Kari closed her eyes and concentrated on the metal bars. She wasn't sure what she was expecting to happen, but when she opened her eyes the saw the bars were vibrating ever so slightly. She tried again, this time with her eyes open. The bars vibrated slightly again, but this time she also noticed a bit of the dirt outside of the cage raising off the ground. There wasn't any wind so seeing the dirt start to fly around was odd. She tried again this time concentrating on the dirt, a mini tornado formed. Kari smiled, she could control the air.
She spend some time practicing her powers and then she saw a little mouse, the prefect test subject. She focused on the mouse and created a mini tornado around it and the controlling it she brought the mouse towards her. Once the mouse was in reach she put her arm through the bar and using one talon on her finger she skewered it killing it instantly. The test run worked perfectly, she swallowed the mouse whole enjoying the reward of her success.
In the distance she could hear footsteps, using her amazing hearing she focuses in on them and could make out a conversation. It was the men from the previous night they must be coming back for her. "I can't believe some guy in Fernon actually wanted to buy this crazy beast. What does he want her for anyways, Fernon usually tried to keep all wild animal out of their borders, especially after that horrible incident, where all but two men were killed."
"I have no idea, he said he could tame her. Maybe he wants her to hunt for him. I wouldn't be surprised though if the guards killed her as soon as we hand her over. The captain of the guards own son was involved in that incident, luckily his son is still alive, but I bet they want to get some revenge on these monsters."
They men stepped in Kari's line of sight. The first man approached the cage and put the lock in his hand and took out a key. "What are you doing you IDIOT!" shouted the other man, causing the one with the key to stop in his tracks.
"What? I'm just opening the cage up to fed it. We can't let her starve to death or we won't get our money."
"If you do that she'll escape! Just throw the food through the bars."
'Darn it,' Kari thought. Them opening the cage was what she had been waiting for. Once they opened it she'd have been able to use her new powers to blow them away and then escape. Unfortunately being able to control air meant nothing if the lock was still locked. A few mice were thrown at her threw the bars, at least she had food.
"Load her onto the kart so we can start our journey, but be careful!" The men the moved her onto the kart, she did manage to scratch one of them not that it actually did her any good, but it was satisfactory. The two men got in the front and got the horses to start moving. They were heading to Fernon, away from Kari's home.
Kari practiced using her power to make the beginning of the journey hard on the men, she created a large wind storm that she isolated just to the kart and she tried to knock the kart over, but she wasn't very successful. She needed to keep practicing. Then in the middle of her attempts to cause the men as many problems as she could she saw a carriage in the distance. Out of the carriage stepped out two young purple haired girls. They were both wearing beautiful dresses, 'They must be royalty,' she thought. She knew they wouldn't do anything to help her, no human wanted to help her, but something seemed different about those girls.
The kart continued on, starting to pass the young girls. Kari continued to created drastic wind storms around the kart, hopefully she'd be successful in knocking it over at some point.
As Ranon passed by the caravan which he deduced must have been the last one here he heard them whisper. βDid you here? Someone back home caught a live bird woman, and someone here in this town has decided to purchase it.β βWhat why?β the other trader asked βI donβt rightly know. All I know is itβs almost worse than murder bringing a monster here to be sold; poor thing wonβt make it past the gate.β Ranon rushed toward the two tradesmen and in a raged voice he demanded βWHO! Who in this town would dare bring in an abomination alive?β the two traders looked at Ranon with partial amusement and partial fear βI donβt know mate, just a rumor I heard thatβs allβ Ranon charged up to the first trader and grabbed him by the front of his shirt pulling him in close, the traders both lost their amused looks and where nothing but scared of the man with red hair. As Ranon spoke his entire body became hotter his hand and breath most of all. βWho was it pesent! And you tell me you donβt have any idea again and Iβll end your pathetic corpse picking days here and nowβ Both traders where now wetting themselves as they could swear they could see something moving in Ranonβs eyes. βI DONβT KNOW I SWEAR. IT WAS JUST SOMETHING THAT ONE OF THE OTHER CARAVANS MENTIONED AS IT LEFT THIS MORNING THATβS ALL I KNOW I SWEAR I SWEAR!β the cry became more and more desperate as the trader's cloths had begun to light on fire. Ranon threw the man away in disgust and wiped his hand of the ash that used to be the manβs shirt front. βWell even if you donβt know the disgusting person in my city who wants the creature you know where the creature is coming from.β Ranon looked off over the city walls toward Athen βAthen eh? Well, wasnβt where I was planning on starting my trip, but it looks like itβs where Iβm going.β With that Ranon stepped over the weaping trader who scurried out of his way. Ranon now had a goal, He was going to start this journey with one final monsters blood on his hands. βNot one creature will be allowed into my cityβ¦ not aliveβ Ranon said as he exited the gate toward Athen. βNot oneβ
The young man gulped at stuttered,"P-princess, I a-assure there is absolutely n-nothing back there! There is no need!" Lanie glared at the man with a cold aggressive stare. The man stepped out of the carriage in pure terror and went to the back, opening the doors. What Lanie saw was horrible. A poor girl a few years older than her, one of the hybrids, in a cage. Lanie yelled at the man,"What a devious man you are! How could you hold a living creature like her captive! And a peasant like you shouldn't sell any parts of a living creature! Get out of my sight!" The man shivered in fear and ran off.
She climbed in the back of the carriage and unlocked the cage with a key she found in the front seat. When it was open, she led the bird girl out onto the dirt road. Lanie smiled and curtsied. "Hello, I am Princess Lanie Ravenhart. You are safe, now what is your name fair maiden?" She hoped they would stop talking soon, because she could'nt put on the smiling act for much longer...
"Hello, Kari Sairento." she spoke with a smile. "I see you trust us now, even though humans don't treat hybrids well. I'm Lilly Ravenhart, ready to accept whatever you decide."
The girl scratched her head for a moment. Was it okay to involve the hybrid in their adventures?
"The brid girl kinda has a point to offer us help as our watcher. Come to think of it, two 13-year-old girls just decided to go on a journey becasue of a dream. We did start off quite fast. I also don't know how are we supposed to find the rest." Lilly thought.
"Kari Sairento," she spoke. "Have you ever been a watcher before? Also, you did say that you don't want to be touched by a human, but... can I touch your feathers?"
"How about I give you this instead," she looked for a feather that she was ready to molt, a beautiful secondary feather. The feather was softer than any fabric that man could make. It was mostly brown but had some off white almost lacy looking pattern on it. She jumped down from her perch and handed it to Lilly. "Maybe one day you can touch my wings, but for now this will have to do." Kari looked at both girls and forced herself to make a weak smile. "Well if that is all then I suppose I'll be off. I would like to return to my forest."
"If you did, you are like us. We had a dream with a similar concept." Lanie started. "Now we can do weird things." She had practiced her powers on the way to Athen. She put her hand out and closed her eyes. Concentrating real hard, she raised her hand and managed to make a solid black figure in the form of a knight appear. "I noticed the carriage you were held in rocked a bit. Is it your doing?" She wanted to get all of the magical people rounded up as soon as possible. Lanie could tell Kairi was one of them.
"Yes... I had that dream last night. I've been practicing all morning with the intention of using it against those men when I got the chance. I was going to send them off in a tornado when they opened my cage. Lucky men they are that you two came along. So yes, rocking the carriage was my doing, I thought I might as well make their lives as hard as possible." She could tell that this whole thing was the start to a very long journey and she wasn't exactly thrilled about it, but she knew that the young princesses would need help, it wasn't safe for them to venture into the forest alone. "Looks like I will be joining you on your journey to the forest and finding the others. Do you know where any of them are?"
As Ranon walked he saw a fallen tree in the road, No one else was around being blocked by this inconvenience meaning it had ether happened during the night or people had spent hours getting their horses and wagons over the tree. More than likely it was the first option. Ranon looked at his hand then the tree. Ranon smiled and said βWhat better way to see what I am truly capable of?β Ranon pulled his arms back with his hands closed into fists so that they where right next to his stomach He focused all the anger he had been preparing for the creature who was on its way to Fernon into his hands and with a shout he thrust his arms forward opening his palms and released a spout of flames from his hands. After just a few Moments the fallen dead tree was nothing but ash and cinders. Ranon closed his hands and stopped the flames there were still a few flames yet to have gone out on small pieces of wood. While Ranon had no love for the things living in the forest he knew that it was a needed source of wood and food, So Ranon decided to test something else. βI can create fire. But can I control fire that is not touching me?β Ranon whispered to himself. He reached out his open palm toward one of the flames and quickly clenched his fist. The fire responded and disappeared as if quenched by a bucket of water. After he had taken care of the remaining flames in the same way Ranon continued toward Athen with a new vigor and excitement. Nothing could stand in his way. And he would see to it that these traders never saw his city.
