A town can’t pop out of no where. Nevertheless a town that didn’t seem to exist until 20 years ago. But what if it did? What if a town became a place? A spot? A home? What if that same town held some of our history’s greatest secrets? What if that town was the home to Marie Antoinette, Bonnie and Clyde, and John F. Kennedy Jr.? What if that same town was just the place for most to run away and live a life they never knew they could have? What if?

This is Brewster. This is the small town that is 40 minutes from Baltimore, Maryland and the small town that holds everyone you could ever want to meet. They are stuck in a limbo; in a place of surreal dreams and second chances. You can walk into the corner store and find Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. You can be in gym class next to Anne Frank. You can sit at a restaurant across from Julius Caesar. But, there’s a catch: they don’t know. They don’t know that their lives have made a dent in thousands of years of history. These citizens are normal, ordinary, and just living their lives.

Since when could you see Bonnie and Clyde walking down the street and not be afraid of a gun being put to your head? Since when could you make out with James Dean behind the bleachers? Since when could you have tea in the afternoon with Anne Boleyn? Since now.

It took Heath fifteen minutes to realize he was missing something. And that something was what was going to fill the last twenty minutes of class. So naturally, because his day had already had such a wonderful start, it was something important.

Despite having a degree in literature, Heath had no degree in teaching and, contrary to any popular beliefs, was still entirely lost on that front. Lesson plans that spanned a whole three months? Those didn't exist. Most of the time he planned the material the class would go over the night before, which tended to leave most of the class in confusion. They hopped from author to author, short stories to poetry to full length novels. A lot of the kids liked it. Said his teaching style kept the class from staying boring for too long if they didn't like a specific author. What most of them failed to realize was that Heath didn't really have a style. He chose all his material during insomnia fueled nights, when he spent most of his time hunched over a notebook, scribbling illegible tales of mysteries and horrors onto worn notebook paper. Occasionally though, he'd suddenly remember something that might serve as inspiration, and he would jump from his seat to scan the towering bookshelves behind him, darting out a hand to pull a worn leather book from the shelves and, with nimble fingers, flip to the page he wanted. And if he decided that specific work would be good for more than just personal inspiration, into his lesson plan it would go.

Lately, Arthur had been spending a lot of those nights with him, each scribbling away in silence, lost in their own little worlds of fantasy. It tended to get him a little mixed up though. For example, his missing piece of the day's lesson plan. There was a poem...
But he wasn't sure which one.

Arthur had gone off to the kitchen or somewhere for tea or something or other (Heath was never really sure what he was doing), and in the time he was gone, Heath had paced the room, reciting some poem from some book he thought would help with the story he was writing. It did. It also went into the lesson plan. But when he stopped to jot it down, he put it in the back of Arthur's journal instead of his own. It happened. Especially on those semi-delirious nights. And if Arthur was nearby...
He glanced at his wristwatch once more. He had twenty five minutes before classes began. Plenty of time if there was no hold up. Moving quickly, he pulled the TA from the classroom next door just in case and ran out of the building. If he was right, Arthur was probably at the coffee shop, since he wasn't at the bakery and it was too early for the library.

When he arrived and stepped through the doors, he saw he was right. Heath let out a small breath of relief and headed over to the familiar face. "Arthur," he began and--oh. Quite a bit of tension in the room. A victim of tunnel-vision he often tended to be. A quick glance at his watch told him he didn't have any time to delay though. "Arthur," he resumed again, this time in a more hushed voice, "I need your help."

The sight of Cateline made the hair on his neck stand up. There was something distant about her. Maybe the word was lofty... She should have been born in an ivory tower but instead she was born here. With nothing to rule, she had her bakery. And while Liam attempted a civil relationship, with employees like Callum, it was a constant balancing act. And right now, he just wanted to leave. Let them battle it out, he thought, who was really in any danger? He could slip out, meet Lucas, wisk Mary and Yvette away and pretend, for just a moment, he was more than this place. But Liam had a thing about lost causes... They made great stories and a writer can't turn one down.

"Well if isn't the lovely Miss Moreau? Hope you come with good news. Maybe cookies? Otherwise we're terribly busy running a business. People have to have their coffee otherwise they go insane and Brewster just doesn't have the resources for an uptick in mental illness..." he grinned. He turned to Callum. He was sarcastic as usual and unhelpful. Why didn't he just fire him? He could hire some pretty face to flirt with all day. He'd never get any work done. Life would be easy. But he knew why. He liked Callum. He aggravated him, amused him, frustrated him and disappointed him but he was always there. For someone who pretended to care so little, he seemed to care so much. Another lost cause.

But just because Liam liked lost causes was no excuse to ruin his day. He had plans and no one fucks with his plans. He walked over the Cateline and gently placed his hands on her shoulders, "Take a breath. Nothing like a nostril flair to ruin your beautiful features," He would pay for that later but just maybe her anger would be spread too thin. How did they ever stay in business? It was a magnet for trouble. "Now play nice, you two. Don't scare off the customers," he said, eyeing Cateline, "After all, we're friendly rivals, remember. Not the Hatfields and McCoys," He was tempted to kiss her on the forehead like a child to antagonize her. It was almost fun to do. But he decided against it. He needed his limbs.

Liam looked back towards Mary and Yvette. They were almost slipping away from him. "Meet me at the apartment," he shouted to them. His eyes lingered on Mary and he turned away and left before shit really hit the fan. Hopefully they'd make a speedy exit out of there before they were swept up.

He slipped home to find Lucas in a state of existential crisis over coffee. "I've been hit with inspiration!" he announced, with little concern to Lucas' state of dress. Skinny jeans were inviting trouble. No good came out of strangling one's circulation. "While I might have writer's block, I am apparently still brilliant. As long as everyone cooperates. Now put some pants on. I invited a friend of mine to the beach plus Yvette, that girl you got burned over. Now Yvette is blind and deaf. None of your usual tricks are going to work. But Mary will interpret. By the way, Mary's off limits," He collapsed on the couch, sinking into the cushions. Liam wanted to believe his intentions were good. Yvette needed a little freedom and Callum needed to either admit his feelings or let her the hell go. All he was doing was forcing an outcome... He ignored the sinking feeling in his stomach. He wasn't hurting anyone... right?

Lucas had been soaking there in the tub all alone, contemplating through libraries of thoughts. He could suppose, civilian's life, to him, was so much more difficult and strenuous than being pressed at the frontlines ever was. And it was the fact that Lucas was startled by Callum's hostility, making Lucas guess he assumed way too much about people, that people are actually crazy or selfish scumbags that step out line. On base, Lucas would have never ran into that type of trouble, mainly because people, soldiers, there had respect for him, they had to according to the medals and emblem stamped against Lucas's uniform. But none of that mattered here. So, what did?

And suddenly, Liam stormed in, door open, Lucas given yet another surprise that day. Lucas jumped back, and grabbed the ice bags, trying to cover as much as he could of his crotch. "Bloody hell, Liam! Don't scare me like that," he reacted in his naked state. "Well, its not everyday that I get my balls scorched in coffee and then walk in on nude..."

Lucas then listened to Liam's plan, as he grabbed a towel nearest to him. While Liam was talking, Lucas climbed out of the tub, before he wrapped the towel around his waist. "Wait, a minute... Yvette, that girl, she's deaf... and blind? Damn... No, wonder that prick was pissed off." Lucas at this point had become numb at the surprises, too many to count, and no telling what else this town is full of. But if he could help, Lucas rather know about things before they do become what is qualified as a surprise. Besides, Lucas would of never imagine all that was started over his attempt to get her number.

Lucas was at least glad that Liam was there to inform him. Who knows that would happen if he wasn't. Lucas buried it in his mind to be remembered that Mary was, as Liam said, off-limits. Lucas did not want to lose Liam, he was very helpful, so he will remember to take that order seriously. Speaking of orders, Lucas had to prepared himself for his next destination, the beach. Lucas did not know how Liam got this plan all started, but he was not going to refuse, better than sulking alone in a bathtub. "Pants, pants, pants, need pants-- Oh, Liam, could I borrow some pants, and maybe some boxers also? My stuff is... kind of... I don't know- soaked."

"What? You've lived and showered with soldiers. No one ever saw you naked?" It only suddenly occurred to him just how bohemian his childhood must have been. His dad was buttoned up. He was probably born with a suit and tie but Liam recalled walking in on his mother prancing around naked, usually covered in paint, when she taught classes at home. It never phased him. Naked hippies and artists were just background. When his father died, Liam had even posed nude for a few art classes to get by. The pay was pathetic otherwise he'd have kept at it. "There's pants somewhere around here. Felicity usually does the laundry. At least I think she does," he said.

Without thought, he took one of the many notebooks scattered and started scribbling down an idea. Maybe his mistake had been trying to invent a story when there were so many right here. "Just be careful with Yvette," he said suddenly. He had a feeling nagging at him that he couldn't shake off. "She's a little sheltered," Liam knew what he was getting them into. It wasn't difficult to see where it would go. So if it all blew up in his face, he had no exit strategy. Maybe it would have been better to leave the strategy to Lucas and Liam could go back scribbling on napkins. But as he looked at the door, waiting for it to open, waiting for something new, he didn't want to go back. Instead, he announced to himself as well as to Lucas, "If they don't hurry up, I'm going back to the damn cafe and..." and what... throw Mary over his shoulder and drag her off? He almost laughed at the idea. "And drag them out of there. No one ruins my unscheduled day off,"

"No, just didn't want to make you jealous," it was a cocky comment from Lucas when Liam questioned Lucas's sudden desire for cover, but it was all in playful jeering. It was not that Lucas was ever ashamed of his body, no he will mold and sculpt it until perfection. But he just was not prepare to be seen like that, and especially what he thought was a low state at the time. Besides, Lucas knew that Liam had a roommate, Lucas did not want to introduce himself to a complete stranger naked. He was raised to be a gentleman, and growing up in a wealthy home he took etiquette sessions as a little boy. Sure he has broken and forgotten a lot of those rules, like flipping his shirt off, but he knows he has to have some kind of class, don't want to end up as some white boy trash.

So Yvette was coming over to Liam's apartment lie soon? Lucas was not sure how he felt about that. He would not have a problem to be seen with her again with Callum present, in fact Yvette was Lucas's way to strike Callum back, because he knew that it hurt Callum to see Yvette among the likes of Lucas. But what if Callum did find Yvette with Lucas, even if Lucas was simply standing next to her, Callum would be pissed either way. And Lucas had no problem in pissing Callum off, that was kind of the point of seeing Yvette in the first place, but pissing off Liam was another story. Liam's beach day would be ruined if Lucas and Callum if they started giving each other hell again, and Liam when off how he did not want his plans ruined. Lucas just knew if Callum did come at him with physical hostility, Lucas would just play the defense, and hopefully maybe Liam would jump in.

After scouting around for pants, Lucas was successful at finding a pair which he slipped into rather easy, being aware the last pair he was wearing were skinny jeans that felt like an extra and unnecessary workout to put on. For Lucas's torso, he just wore his crimson V-neck as before, at least that didn't have any coffee stains. "So, you really want this to happen?"Lucas asked as he sat down next to Liam, tossing his long blonde locks to the side of his face and out of the way of his bright blue eyes. Lucas noticed Liam was scribbling something, but wasn't too nosy to ask why or what it was. "Are you sure this is a good idea? You know, bringing me along, with Yvette there. I'm not scared of Callum, but I don't want to ruin your day if he shows up, seeing me there with Yvette, hell would unleash, and this time I would be prepared. Besides, what's their connection anyways. Yvette and Callum related somehow?"

If Mary had thought this day could have not gotten any stranger, she was very wrong. Not only did Callum just ignore her when she spoke to him but he just walked off. He didn’t even have the decency to start making her her order, not like he could make it like the god Liam could anyways. But now Liam was hitting on her. At least, she thought he was.

”If you want your usual you’ll have to wait, or you could blow off school and we could run off to the beach. Feel the sand between our toes, the sun in our hair. You’ll learn more in a day with me than at school.” His fingertips ran on along her jawline and stopping at her lips. Heat radiated out from where he touched her.

Mary could only imagine what and afternoon with him would teach her. Butterflies fluttered around in her stomach. Had she ever felt butterflies with Callum? She didn’t think so. She bit her lip then smirked devishly at him after he whispered in her ear. She was trying to change her imagine. Maybe she needed to change the arm candy too. Callum didn’t seem to appreciate her anymore.

"You’ll just have to wait and see if I show up.” Mary told him before he left. She stood there, plotting away. Sure, there was a beach about an hour away. Beach shops always had bathing suits so she didn’t have to worry about that. But what about Yvette? Sure, she didn’t mind Liam corrupting her but sweet Yvette? But then again she couldn’t remember her friend ever mentioning going to a beach. Callum always kept his step sister so shelter. It was definitely strange.

The blonde sat next to her friend, scooting close so her boyfriend would not be able to guess what she was signing to Yvette. This would be the perfect time to write it all down and have her read it or whisper about their plans but Yvette didn’t have that luxury. This is where her obsession with learning things came in handy. She quickly explained to Yvette Liam’s proposition. ”Can you imagine the beach? It would be such and adventure.” She signed in Yvette’s hand.

"I’m going but if you don’t want to I won’t force you to. Do you want to go?" She finished and waited for her friend to answer. She really hoped her best friend would decide to go with her but at this point she really didn’t know. Other than going to the library, a store, or a restaurant, she and Yvette never really did anything adventurous together. If Callum found out she brought Yvette to do something wild, he’d probably skin Mary’s hide. But who cared?

Maybe he wasn’t man enough to be with her anymore. Maybe it was time to stretch her wings and move on to someone else.

She ducked her head when she noticed her favorite teacher walk into the shop. At least he wasn't focused on her. She put her back to him, watching Yvette. This was their chance to be alive for once. This town suffocated Mary so. She needed to be free, to feel alive. She looked out the window at the apartment across the street. He would wait for her right?

Yvette processed Mary's explanation bit by bit. Can you imagine the beach? It would be such an adventure.

An adventure? The words took a plague at her insides. She had a bad feeling about it. The beach. The adventure. Adventure's usually led to danger, and dangers often led to varies possibilities that wouldn't end so well. Besides, didn't she have school to attend. Why was she skipping? And Liam? Why was he taking us and not Callum? Was Callum even going? Then, Yvette remembered that Mary never mentioned him, so it was obvious he wasn't coming. And this "friend", who is it?

It all didn't make sense to her. So, many questions yet not enough words to decipher them. Not responding, Mary yet again reached for her hand, I’m going but if you don’t want to I won’t force you to. Do you want to go?

She didn't know if she would, let alone wanted to. If it meant betraying Callum. She didn't want to upset him and neither should Mary, yet she was just as enthusiastic to go. It just wan't right. Any of it. Yvette knew, as well as anyone else who was supposedly going to go on this trip, that if Callum ever found it he'd skin everyone alive. Even Yvette. Course he never laid a finger on her, but he always did something worse than a simple swat on the hand. He ignored her. Happened once when she decided to go for a walk by herself. He found her just strolling down Raymond Avenue, and was not happy infact he never talked to her for a whole week.

It was hell. That's what being a disabled child taught you sometimes; "Misery loves company" as they say. And little by little Yvette started to believe it. So, was she ready to take yet another risk? Anyway, maybe a few hours away from Callum was what she needed. He was always at her side, always treating her to more than what was needed. He never gave her a chance to just be normal; go out, meet new people...have fun. If she wasn't at home, she was always at his cafe. If it wasn't the cafe, she was always at home. It was a everyday routine that she steadily gotten used to. But maybe now things could change. She had her chance right in front of her. Why not take it? Because she didn't want to get hurt, that's why. She couldn't see. She couldn't hear. What if someone to advantage of that without Callum's existence? She couldn't let that happen. Not again. Not after what her first step-father did years ago. Nevertheless, she would be with Mary the whole entire time, right?

She wouldn't leave Yvette behind. As long as she was around, then Yvette gave her an answer that she knew she would regret later in the day. She held out her fist, and gave it nod: "Yes."

Besides she's never been to the beach, and it would be fun. She could only hope so.

The blonde chewed on her lip. It seemed like she was waiting forever for her to get just a yes or no answer. Maybe it was too unfair of her to ask her this but Yvette deserved the fun as much as Mary did. When had either of them actually left Brewster. She glanced over her shoulder at Callum and was happy to see he was too busy to see what they were plotting. Well, what she was trying to plot.

When Yvette suddenly moved, Mary took notice. She grinned at her friend. She seemed to lose all fear in that moment and be triumphant as she responded. 'Let’s go', she signed in her hand, standing up. She put the brownie back in the box so they could eat it on the way and took Yvette’s hand. She led her outside with their box of goodies. She didn’t bother straightening the chairs, more work for Callum since he seemed to want to be an ass that day.

Mary paused at the street, looking both ways for them before she led them over to the apartment building. She opened the door, letting Yvette go ahead of them. She took her time with the stairs for Yvette, no matter how much she was dying to get there. Would Callum be mad that she went off with another man? Would he even care? Did Liam actually like her in more than just a friendly way? She didn’t know but she wanted to.

When they reached his apartment, she knocked in a playful way, if there was such a thing. She took Yvette’s hand again and gave it a gentle squeeze, hoping to convey how excited she was with just a simple gesture. Even though communicating with Yvette was sometimes harder, Mary always felt like Yvette understood her the way no one could.

Mary didn’t exactly know who this ‘friend’ Liam planned on bringing but she did trust him. If he trusted this person, she didn’t have a reason not to. Then again she wasn’t just going to leave her friend stranded. She was too protective of her to do that.

Suddenly before they answered the door, Mary turned to her friend and told her. 'If you are scared or anything tell me and we will stop. I will not let anything happen to you.' She reached out and gave her friend a hug. She had been lonely over the years but Yvette had been there for her. With her friend’s disabilities, she couldn’t imagine what Yvette went through on a daily basis. She wanted her friend to feel and be safe.

Without looking up, Liam smiled slightly, "Maybe you're right. You at the beach? You'll look like a Roman god and I'll just be sitting there, getting sunburnt. What am I thinking?" He shook his head and turned to Lucas. He didn't like being serious. It threatened to pin him down, darken his world, drag him under. It was easier for everyone to just get along. If they'd only play along, be directed. "Yvette's his step-sister. Their family is... broken to say the least. Look, Callum gets in his own way. That's all this is. We're doing him a favor. He likes to pretend he doesn't care. He could win an Oscar because people actually buy it. But all he does is care. He's a big open wound and he's terrified of getting hurt. So what does he do? He hits first," He groaned, rubbing his temples. He couldn't rewrite Callum, no matter how hard he tried. "I don't know what I'm trying to say... Let's say, a fly is kept in a jar. It keeps flying up and hitting against the lid. It's kept there so long it just adapts, it flies lower, keeps its head down. Then one day someone opens the lid. That's Callum and it's also Yvette. Except now Callum sees the lid as comfortable. I don't know what Yvette feels. Maybe a prisoner. I guess we'll find out,".

The knock came as a relief. Dark thoughts only bred more and there was nothing worse for Liam to feel helpless. "Okay, enough of this sober bullshit. Let's just forget it and go to the beach. What ever happens, we'll deal with it then," He rose from the couch and walked over to the door. With a squeak, the door let in the light of day inside Liam's brooding thoughts. The moment his eyes gazed upon Mary, the nagging doubt was conveniently washed away. He may have been slowly stealing Callum's women, one by one but it suddenly didn't seem so important.

"I'm glad you got here. I thought I might have to steal you away," he said with a grin, ushering them inside. His hand slid gently down to the small of Mary's back. He made quick introductions, pointing to the appropriate name and face. "Now that's all over, let's get to the beach,"

Cateline could have ripped Callum's head off in that moment. Not only was he extremely annoying, but he was cocky and arrogant and... Cateline could go on and on about Callum. Cateline had noticed Mary out of the corner of her eye and she tried to give her a slight nod, but she was too focused on Callum and her anger to even acknowledge anyone else,

"You... you... You!" Cateline stammered, running an anxious hand through her hair, "The next time you steal croissants from my bakery, I will have your head on a pike parading it downtown!" Cateline shrieked again her face turning red; that's when she spotted the 'free croissant for unhappy customer note on a napkin sitting on the counter, with one of her croissants left over.

Big mistake.

Cateline picked up the napkin and glared at it for a slight moment before snapping her head back up to look at Callum,

"Are you kidding me?!" Cateline yelled directly at him, then, without warning or halfway-thinking, Cateline pelted the now cold, hardened croissant at Callum, attempting to hit him up side the head.

"Next time you'll think twice about stealing from my bakery!"

Without another word, Cateline spun heel and walked out of the front door of the bakery, making a point to slam the door so the bell on the hinge would ring as loud as it possibly could. Cateline stood for a moment after she slammed the door and took a deep breath, glancing back and forth down the street. Evan was the only one there, still playing away.

Cateline composed herself, and, without acting like anything ever happened, Cateline opened the bakery door and slipped inside, just as calmly as she had entered it when she got there at 6 that morning.

Arthur's eyes widen considerably as he watches Cateline throw the croissant at Callum. To be honest, she sort of terrified him, a lot. She also helped his muse considerably, and he vaguely wondered how she would feel if she got put into a novel of his. Not that he actually planned on asking her beforehand or anything. It wasn't that he was rude or anything, he just had no sense of privacy, and had little to no consideration for the feelings of others, and that was not his fault. He was raised in a way that made him insensitive to anyone other than himself, and it wasn't surprising that that stuck with him. And no one bothered to chastise him on it, other than Heath occasionally, when he found out he was writing a piece about someone in the town. Heath was the only person that he let see his journal or his works in progress, and only because he was a writer too. Otherwise his things would have been off limits.

The writer ducked his head when the woman turned and stalked off, not wanting to be caught staring, and buried himself in his journal. Part of him was still listening in hopes that Callum would continue their conversation, but he doubted it. The other man was very popular, it seemed, and had better things and people to spend his time on than someone like Arthur. On the other hand though, Heath seemed sort of popular too, even if he tended to stay shut in at home most of the time, and he still made time for Arthur.

Faintly Art hears his name being said, but doesn't really catch it until the second time around. His head pops up and his eyes go to find the counter but- Heath? That was odd. Arthur looks down at his watch before realising he doesn't have one, then tries to find the clock in the cafe. "You're supposed to be at the school." He says dubiously, eyes narrowing in confusion, as if the other man had no idea that he had a job to get to. Then he remembers something about being asked for help, and frowns. He isn't really in the mood to be helpful right now, actually he's never in the mood to help. The only reason he assisted Heath in grading papers was because that was the requirement for moving in with him. And he liked to see how high schoolers were writing these days (answer being not great).

"What do you need?" He asks finally, sort of sighing the words out, shoulders slumped in a way that made it obviously reluctantly said. "You should hurry, you don't want to be late for work."

The beach was laid out before them in a perfect blanket of sand. Not a footprint sullied the ground, at least, no one else's. They nearly had the beach to themselves aside from a few others off into the distance. Already Liam felt more at peace. He could think with the salty sea air. No orders, no demands on his attention, no reminders that he wasn't writing Oscar-winning movies yet. "Maybe I should get a boat," he announced, "Sail the open sea," He laughed at the idea. With his luck, he'd spring a leak and be marooned on some uninhabited island.

With a half-smile, he leaned close to Mary. "Would you sail the ocean with me? If I asked?" Before she could answer, he pulled away, gently running his knuckles down the side of her arm. Her could feel her skin rise to meet his. "Alright, golden girl, I'm going for a swim. Show Lucas the ropes. Find me when you get bored," he said with a wink. He pulled off his shirt, shorts underneath and jogged up towards the water. As soon as the water hit his toes, the chill ran up his spine and he leapt back, slightly undignified. He glanced back, hoping no one saw him.

”Maybe I should get a boat, sail the open sea!”

A smirk played on her lips as Liam almost purred into her ear. ”Would you sail the ocean with me? If I asked?” His hot breath sent shivers down her spine. She glanced over at him. She would have answered had he not pulled away and changed the subject. She rolled her eyes. ”You are such a tease.”

Had her shoes not been so expensive she would have tossed one at him. Not in a way that it would actually hurt him just to tease him. She turned back to Lucas, giving him a once over. ”So what are your intentions with my Yvette?” She crossed her arms. If he thought she was just going to let him do whatever he wanted to do with her best friend he was sorely mistaken.

She took her friends hand. ”Why don’t you come with us to buy bathing suits and you can tell me about yourself. I’ll translate for her and you can tell me of your intentions.” She told him. She guided Yvette across the sand to the shop across the street. The store was opened but there was no one besides the worker in it.

Mary brought Yvette’s hand up and asked her what type bathing suit she wanted; bikini or one piece aka sexy or sweet. She even that last bit to make her friend smile. She looked over at Lucas. ”You gonna get a suit or go for boxers like Liam?” She smirked.

There were several long moments where Arthur did not answer him, and Heath could only watch the scene before him unfold. It happened quickly, with a violent explosion from Cateline and no immediate reaction from Callum. He observed with wide eyes, looking vaguely concerned as Cateline stormed out the front door. He wondered if he might have enough time to go check up on her before classes began...

Arthur's voice reached his ears, snapping him back to the problem at hand. "You're supposed to be at the school."

"I know," Heath sighed heavily, rubbing tiredly at his eyes. "I wouldn't be here if it weren't important, believe me."

He noticed with keen eyes Arthur's immediate frown at the prospect of having to help, which honestly came as no surprise. He was well aware that Arthur only helped with the papers because he wanted a place to live. That, and the amusement of course, but Arthur had never liked helping people unless there was something in it for him. Heath had always thought of him as the epitome of the notion of quid pro quo. He responded to Arthur's frown with his own scowl. "Oh, relax. It's nothing that requires any effort from you," Heath added, slightly lower and with a hint of amusement. "I think I wrote the name of a poem I need for class today in the back of your journal, so if you don't mind..."

Heath leaned over and pulled the small book away from Arthur before he could protest, quickly flipping to the back cover to locate his handwriting spelling out a word he could only vaguely make out. "The Waste Land! T. S. Eliot. Of course," he said aloud, wondering how it was that he could have forgotten. He slid the journal back towards Arthur and gave him a quick pat on the arm, his way of saying thanks, before heading out the door. Stealing a quick glance at his watch, he realized there was still a good fifteen minutes before classes. If he didn't delay long, he could...

He avoided turning down James Avenue, continuing straight instead. Standing outside the door to the bakery, he inhaled a breath, taking just a moment to gather himself. The bell above the door chimed as he entered slowly, cautiously. "Cateline?" he called out softly, not seeing her behind the cash register. "Are you here?"

Lucas was nervous, anxiety pumping through his heart, and trailing down his veins. He always became edgy when it came to company of others, sure, Lucas is out-going and a people-person. But the thought of failing- defeat lingered his head, and he could not let that happened. He had already been shamed by the whole Callum catastrophe back in the café, and Lucas was not planning to experience anything similar to that ever. But eventually, he took a deep breath, told himself that this was his second chance, and there is no point in being embarrassed again.

Their trip to the beach did not only consist of Liam and Lucas however, but also Mary and Yvette. Lucas had already been told by Liam that May was not to be flirted with, and Lucas understood, he would not stoop so low to take the woman Liam is after. But then there was also Yvette, Callum's step-sister, the girl he got his crotch brunt over, knowing that she had a disability, one would think Lucas would now be uninterested in her because communicating with her would be a challenge. But the thing about Lucas was that he enjoyed challenges, he wanted to understand her, and one big reason of that was to get Callum back. Lucas was not sure, how far he would go with Yvette, friends, or maybe more? Being friends, would anger Callum enough, Lucas's quest for revenge would be completed there. But Lucas, knowing himself, he would probably turn to the urge to gain her approval- Yvette's fondness for him, become the Prince Charming he wants to be to ever girl, a polite gentlemen that entertains light flirting, and maybe some alluring humor.

They had arrived at the beach and Lucas delighted in the sandy shores and the ocean tattered with waves. The beach was a place to relax and bask in tranquility, maybe this what he needed after all, to relax, forget about war and violence, he was after all- off duty. Lucas witnessed Liam's affection for Mary, it was quite obvious, the way he leaned in, when he whispered something that was a mystery to Lucas. Lucas thought Liam was being adorable, and he was good at it. But then came a time where Liam stripped himself of pants and charged into the waters with only his boxers. Lucas prepared for a more classy attire though, a pair of swimming trunks would of done him fine. So when it came to the question of whether or not he was going to join, he confidently with a raise of his eye brows and his sweet pretty-boy smile cracking again, "Of course, a suit sounds excellent." Lucas followed Mary and Yvette, walking alongside with them, "You want to get to know me? My intentions, this is staring to sound like an interrogation." Lucas joked, chuckling as he finished his sentence.

"A beautiful face doesn't mean anything without a beautiful heart."
----->Theme Song 1||Theme Song 2<-----

Sand. And lots of it. The sole of her converse became engulfed in it to the point where she felt its rough, gritty structure slipping its way into her socks, and between her toes. It was an unpleasing experience, yet she was intrigued by it all the same. This had been her first time at the beach, her first time free of her step-brother. For years, she has always been under protection. She never had a say in the world. No one looked at the world from Eve's prospective. She just went along with what others wanted, whatever they advised. However, now that she went against all rules and regulations, she felt..free, like a prison being released from prisoner, a bird free of its mothers nest and now soaring on its own to new possibilities.

Possibilities.

Yvette always wondered if her possibility would ever come. That one day, when she open her eyes in the morning, she will never be confronted by the world, but by a million possible worlds. She knew that in this insignificant green planet we have to take chances, sometimes they're worth it and sometimes they aren't, but you'll never know until you try even if it meant going against what others expected.

A moment later, she felt a small hand grab for her very own delicate one. Mary. Yvette felt relief wash over her as she knew her best friend was near, and was going to watch over her. She let Mary guide her from various terrain from sand, to gravel, then to linoleum tiling. With a free hand she felt the soft fabrics of..clothes? They were in a clothing store, but for some instinctive reason Yvette felt that Mary didn't just bring her into a clothing store, but a bathing suit store. Panic rose from within Yvette at the thought of herself having to wear a swim suit; skin exposed and all. Course, she never actually worn one before let alone ever seen one, but she knew what they were and the thought of herself in one was horrifying.

Mary brought Yvette's hand up, asking her if she preferred a one piece or a two-piece. Her face flushed in embarrassment So, now she was given a choice?

"I can't believe you're making me choose." she shook her head in utter disappointment, smiling. "Two piece, I suppose. I'm already rebelling."

Cateline stood at the front door of the bakery for a moment, running a hand through her hair like she always did when she was trying to compose herself. She couldn't believe Callum could be so... rude. Although rude wasn't even the right word for it. Cateline seemed prude, and she knew that, but she hated knowing someone just as prude and arrogant as she was. It made her realize the faults in herself, which brought out her insecurities... all around it just wasn't a good thing for her conscience. Cateline glanced around the bakery, which was now empty since the morning rush hour was nearly over. It wouldn't be full again until lunch, which, after what had just happened, Cateline was thankful for.

Cateline dusted off the counter with a dry washcloth and took out the morning's pastries, setting them in a basket to be given out later. She then went to the back, trying to decide what things she would put out for lunch. Croissants were a definite- they always were, but she was stuck between making turkey bacon paninis or ham and cheese flat bread sandwiches as the special for lunch. Cateline decided on ham and cheese, since it was simple, and most people liked ham better than turkey- or, so she had observed- and then she picked up the newspaper she'd left in the back earlier. She got to read the horoscope section before she heard the bell chime on the front door. Gia had gone out for break, and the bakery was empty. Cateline contemplated just letting it go, but when she heard someone calling for her specifically, she made her way to the counter. It was Heath.

Cateline looked at him, smiling slightly as she nodded, "I'm... fine. I'm fine." She said softly, as she bit her lip rather unnoticeably.

"Thanks for coming to check on me..." She murmured, "But are you sure you aren't going to be late?" Cateline knew school would have to be taking up in a few minutes. It was nearly 8:30. Cateline looked at Heath, questioning, but still managed to smile at him. It was different to have someone worry about her for a change, instead of her worrying about the actions of everyone else.

Mary looked at Lucas, serious for a moment. ”Who says this isn’t an interview? You think I’ll let just anyone hang out with my best friend? Callum will guard her like a pitbull but if you want to be able to talk to her, you have to gain my trust first.” She explained to him and shrugged. She pointed out the guys’ section. ”Maybe you should grab a pair for Liam, just in case.”

She laughed softly when Yvette responded. She took Eve’s hand and made it like a “bun” and put her own finger in it. ’Hot dog, someone’s going sexy! She smirked, turning to the racks she finally decided on a two piece for Yvette and a one piece for herself. She smirked, grabbing a bag that they could put their clothes in and lead her to the changing room. It was easier just to get the ‘family’ room so they could change together and she could help her friend if she needed.

Mary locked the door and signed to her friend that they were in the changing room. She hung up Yvette’s bathing suit, letting her touch it so she knew where it was. She hung her’s up on the other side before she started stripping. She pulled on the one piece with ease then checked herself out in the mirror. She was normally not into wearing one piece but there was something about it that sort of had a lingerie vibe. She hoped it would make Liam really notice her. She left her hair down. She put her clothes into the bag and then added Yvette’s clothes and shoes as well.

Mary helped her friend when she needed it and made sure she was secure in the bathing suit before she led her out again. She paused at a rack of flip flops. She grabbed a pair of black ones for herself and a pink pair for Yvette. She went to the register and laid out their spoils. The man had already ran up their bathing suits. She waited for Lucas to get done while she helped Yvette into the flip flops and then put her own on.

She went ahead and paid for their things. It wasn’t like they got to go road tripping every day. ’You look hot. That guy Lucas will be drooling. Still trying to figure him out. I know he is a solider or something but that’s it.’ She told her friend.

When Mary returned Lucas's joking comment seriously, he felt a knot in his stomach. First Callum and now Mary, he was starting to see people get really defensive when the matter involved Yvette. But Lucas understood that Yvette was Callum's step-sister and Mary's best friend, so they had really no choice but to be defensive. However, he wished they give a chance and sound less aggressive and hostile, they did not even know him, why make assumptions? But Lucas, is not the one to judge quickly, and was aware it is better to be careful than sorry. Besides, he would be a fool to hurt Yvette, not because he was scared of Mary or Callum, but even Liam would be angry with the rest of the town. So, Lucas made it a priority to be careful with each step he takes, and each word he speaks.

Lucas shuffled through the swimming trunks, remembering that Mary suggested, more to Lucas- commanded him to get Liam a suit. It was obvious, like if she did not want Liam to wear trunks then why did she suggested it? Well, that was at least how Lucas had interpreted in is mind. So Lucas pulled off two pairs of trunks, a blue one for Liam, and red one for himself- Lucas knew he always looked good in red. Lucas then went into the changing room, he wanted to make sure the trunk fit on him, he was not planning for another accident to occur.

While in the changing room, he feeling discouraged by the past event of the day, and being new to the town, concerned that he may just make another mistake, suffer another failure. So he looked into the mirror, wearing his red trunks that he was trying on and said, "Lucas, you are pretty." It was a quirk of his, to admire and compliment himself, but some people believed in pep-talks, some of those people being Lucas. And in the way he did it, it was with telling himself how legendary his good looks were. "You are handsome, you are beautiful- body of a god. You have this, this being your second chance. Don't screw it up." He was talking to himself, but in a quiet matter, hoping no body else could hear him, it kept this as a secret, sometimes he was not discreet enough as he would like for others not to notice.

After he had finish basking in his own self-appreciation, he felt better as he marched over to the cash register. Being the wealthy young man he was, he delighted in showing off his possessions; he couldn't lie, he was a material person, driven by his trinkets and toys. It was a way he was raised being rich, son of a successful business man. So at the register he would usually flip his cash around, telling the clerk to keep the change, but with Yvette's company and especially because Mary was there, Lucas did not want to get a bad name, and he also just met both of them. So he instead paid with his credit card, and saved his bragging for perhaps a later time.

When Lucas had finished paying, he met up with Mary and Yvette, but he immediately made his way to the door, holding it open for him, minding his matters would be a great thing to keep in mind. Besides, he is a gentleman, helps his Prince Charming image. .

Bella drove with her dad back to the house and walked in. She walked to the kitchen and smiled at her mother. "Here is the stuff you wanted. I need to get to school. Talk soon." Her mother seemed shocked. "When did you begin to like school?" She smiled at her mother as she handed her her lunch. "New teacher he is very .... studious and very well .... good at ...umm teaching." She smiled grabbed her lunch and walked out the front door.

-Well duh he is cute and so sooooooooooo enjoyable to stare at during the lessons he teaches.- It was really the only class she really paid attention or made sure she made it too. She got to school and did her other classes.

When it finally got to his class. The one where Mr Lovell taught. She got into the class and sat down on the seat she always took two seats behind the first rows head sitter. She looked at the door waiting for the moment he walked in. She was texting at the same time some friend in the classroom.

Liam met them at the door. He was soaked through when he finally tired of swimming. The water had been cold but calm and refreshing. But as he dried as he journeyed to the store. Only salt and sand clung to his lean frame. He could see the others from a distance. Lucas towered over the others. Mary's blond hair rivaled the sun and Yvette looked almost unreal in a two piece swimsuit. He gave the girls half a smile. Liam took a page out of Lucas' book and ran a hand through his hair but wet strands still fell in his face.

"Hey, what kept you?" he said. Before they answered, he spotted his swim trunks. "Just what I was looking for. I got some weird looks out there. Some people just can't handle all of this," he laughed, taking the trunks from Lucas. He slipped into the store and past the skeptical salesgirl at the counter. She tried to get his attention and instead got a wink and a flashy smile, leaving her perplexed as he went into the changing room. He made a quick turnaround, changing into something a little more comfortable to wear in public. As he left, the salesgirl blushed despite herself, somewhat confused as to whether he was flirting with her and possibly stealing. Liam was doing neither.

"Alright, you three, let's get to the beach. You're taking too long. The beach will be used up by tourists before we get there," As he spoke, he leaned towards Mary and scooped her up over a shoulder, wrapping an arm around her legs. "I'll drag you all if I have to," Mary was light on his shoulder and as he gently traced a finger along the inside of her knee, he discovered her skin to be soft and warm. If she wasn't Callum's... Maybe they weren't serious. Maybe Liam wasn't either. He shook it off. "Okay, Sunshine, grab Yvette and form a train. Lucas, pick up any strays that might fall off," Slowly but surely he would push them towards the water.

The two piece; it felt like Yvette was exposing more skin than natural, yet for some odd reason it was comfortable. Of course she couldn't see what two-piece Mary had picked out for her, but whatever it was, it was pleasing.

She ran her fingers through her hair; nervously. Why was she so nervous? It wasn't like there was anyone special that Yvette was meeting with. It just had been her, Mary, Liam, and that friend they mentioned. Come to think of it, no one had every told her who Liam's friend was. Possibly a girlfriend of his? If so, why hadn't they just come to the beach by themselves? Why bring along two others? And especially without inviting Callum.

Callum.

This was the first when Yvette never thought about him. Usually he was always at her side, guarding her, protecting her from harm, but right now it felt like she was all alone. Was it possible that coming along to the beach by herself was a bad idea? Mary did promise to keep a close eye on her, but lord knows that it was going to be a big job for a person blind/deaf. She needed her brother's company. She wanted his company part because panic was beginning to creep its way up, another because she was longing for him. Wherever he was, whatever he was doing she just hoped that he was okay because he was her brother, her step-brother; however, she cared for him like he cared for him. The best she could do is wish him the best while she was gone .

'You look hot. That guy Lucas will be drooling. Still trying to figure him out. I know he is a solider or something but that’s it.' Mary signed in the palm of Yvette's hand, shaking her from her thoughts.

There was the name again! Lucas. Mary had mentioned his name at list twice during the trip. Who was he? And most importantly what did this have to do with her? Was he Liam's friend? Of course. He had to be because there hadn't been any other name they mentioned. And Yvette never heard of him before. In fact, just the name made her laugh. Lucas. It was an odd name, common too.

When Mary grabbed Yvette's hand, and pulled her (out the door?) she said out loud knowing that she would be heard, "Who's Lucas? You've mentioned his name at least twice." Her french accent was strong. "Il, comme une célébrité ou quelque chose?" He, like a celebrity or something?

'Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah.' That's how it all was as soon as Cateline began talking. A common bore she was. However, he'd hate to admit that he did enjoy her company. Her stress only made him burst out into hysterics. It was nothing new. The two have been going at it for years and years if it weren't for they're constant bickering, it would never be the same. They had this dynamic, see Callum was the rebel who'd always brought trouble and Cateline was the little she-devil who always tried to patch things up. If it wasn't like that, then things wouldn't be the same. Even though they couldn't stand each other, the certain hatred only brought them closer. "The next time you steal croissants from my bakery, I will have your head on a pike parading it downtown!" Her face was red, and almost immediately Callum imagined steam bursting out from her ear canals.

"It's not stealing if I was burrowing." He said in his normal cocky tone. "I'd be glad to give it back, but you gotta wait a couple hours for it to digest down."

She ignored him (as usual); however, he could tell by the way her nose were flaring that she was infuriated. He watched as she snatched up a napkin sitting up on a counter. It was obvious that it had been from Liam. He was the only one Callum could remember who every wrote on napkins, though whatever it said made Cateline even angrier. Her eyes flashed upon him, and for a split second he held an eerie feeling that maybe he had gone too far.

"Are you kidding me?!" She shouted in rage that with each word she'd say, spit freckled across his face. Callum blinked-twice. This had been the second time he'd been spat on. He was beginning to think that it was national 'Spit On Callum' day. Didn't anyone have any manners in this town?

"Jesus, Say it don't spray it!" He retorted back, as he scrub ferociously at her germs with his towel, in which he made a promise to burn later.

The minute he was finished sterilizing his face, Cateline then flung a stone, rock croissant at him. However, he had ducked just in time before the edible weapon nearly knocked him out. "Next time you'll think twice about stealing from my bakery!" She warned him before spinning on one heel and stalking out from the Cafe; shaking the ground as she went.

"Come again!" He called after her before turning his attention onto Arthur who had been sitting there taking in all the chaos with wide eyes. "Can't believe the devil himself gave birth to that." He shook his head, and that's when he noticed. Yvette, Mary, Liam; they were all gone. However, it was Yvette and Mary he was worried about. They were just at Yvette's table a minute ago. Now where were they?

"Hold on, Art." He said before throwing his legs over the counter, and moving toward the front door. He looked out; searching for a sign of his friends, but all he saw was cars speeding by in unison honking at others as they went. "Shit." Now he was beginning to panic.

Wherever they were, they couldn't have gone that far, right? Besides shouldn't Liam be here helping with orders? Where the hell was he?

Callum's fingers were feeble as they dialed Liam's cell. It rung. Once. Twice. No answer. Callum didn't even bother to leave a voicemail. Instead, he dialed for Mary hoping, praying she'd pick up. "Jesus, Mary where are you? Are you alright? Where the hell is Yvette?" He was worried for the two of them. His girlfriend, and his little step-sister.
