Blonde hair flew out behind her, and her eyes watered from the rush of air stinging them. A controversial smile crept across Madeline’s flushed face. She would be famous surely, so many people would be so impressed, the attention! Madeline’s selfish mind had yet to realise the gravity of the terrible situation that gripped the once over populated earth. The feel of her newly powerful legs was exhilarating, like flying. Madeline felt stronger that she ever had in her life, it was shocking but she felt good to be independent. Of course she planned on getting her and Scarlett looked after as soon as possible, but the adventure was brilliant. The more she ran, the more confident she felt. The only negative feeling she had was the fear of that fact it was a very real possibility she could still lose Scarlett. She practically forgot about her parents, it was not that she didn’t love her parents, but grief was an unimportant and frankly a waste of time. Perhaps she could even use it to her advantage, Madeline was used to turning on emotions when necessary, always worked in the past. Why should that change now?

As she heading towards the town centre, she saw more and more bodies lining the streets. She retched again and again, and even felt faint at times. So she ran faster, but she was not immune to exhaustion and Scarlett could not only sleep in her arms forever. She stopped dead, even though her head span without the distraction of speed.
