"I'm A-avery," Avery said, still a bit nervous. "And I'll t-try not to annoy you!" He attempted to laugh, but it came out as more of a strangled choking sound. He might have continued, but he heard a set of familiar voices coming down the hall. "Not them again," he murmured.
"S-sorry," he continued, straightening his jacket, "but I have to go. Some of my... friends are coming, and they might misunderstand. I don't want either of you to get hurt." Without saying another word, he turned around and began to walk briskly back down the hall.
