Patrick was able to make his way into the castle thanks to his disguise, but he wasn't on a mission to kill just yet. He first had to asset the situation before he did anything. Patrick walked around the outside of the main palace inside the castle walls and made his way into the house. He made sure that he did everything according to how he saw the guards do it. The only thing at this time that would give Patrick away would be the smell of burnt flesh that he seemed to always give off.
