Nate followed Venus and Lazette, unplugging his headphones and rejoining the material world. He heard Venus say something about food, but Nate wasn't really listening. He was kind of spacing out, his mind wandering who-knows-where thinking about who-knows-what. However, he did hear Lazette ask Venus for Nutella. That's a strange craving, he thought, furrowing his brow in confusion. He was snapped out of his speculations when Venus stopped in the middle of the sidewalk. Nate nearly ran into his new acquaintance, but was able to stop just a fraction of an inch away.

"How'd you know about Nate and Lazette?" Nate heard him say.

"Who was..." Nate trailed off. On second thought, he might not want to know. Anyone that omniscient must be kind of creepy. "Never mind. So, how far away is your house, Venus?" he asked, hoping to spark some small talk within the group. Nate hated awkward silences.
