Vinh felt a slight, unfamiliar disappointment. The brunnette just walked off after responding - she didn't look like she knew where she was going, either. She just sort of disappeared. This didn't happen very often - when Vinh talked, people usually kept it going - but he didn't get this far without suffering some serious failures. He put an iron smile on his face, negating any bad vibes beaming into him. Her loss.

"Nice job, man. Laser pens and laser watches, nothing turns a girl on like sci-fi," the boy next to him jibed. Vinh chuckled, strategically loud enough for the boy to hear him, but quiet enough to be silent to the crowd.

"If the situation calls for it, man," Vinh said with a grin, accepting the handshake. The boy had a much, much stronger grip than he, and Vinh could feel immediately that he'd be a useful friend.

"Vinh, Vinh Walker."

Something hit Vinh. They were moving. "They" as in not-him and not-Jason. Vinh smiled to himself. Everyone here looked clueless, and the senior boy looked quite pleased with himself. Yet, this tour could easily be an advantage. One has to ignore perceived indignities to get ahead, and life on the social scene had taught that to Vinh time and time again. He continued along on the tour, turning to Jason as the group had reached the science lab.

"So, what do you think of this school so far? Looks like there's some serious pecking order going on," he whispered, eyes going between Jason and the senior.
