Black walked down the path, his finger absently toying with a belt loop on his jeans. He let out a soft sigh as he looked down at his Xtransceiver. He was both happy and lonesome now that he had started his journey. He thought of his mother as he absently kicked a stone on the path. It launched up and landed atop the head of a small Patrat in the grass with a light thud. It reared it's head around and quietly hissed at him as it ran out from the grass. He gasped, his instincts immediately grabbing at the first pokeball we could reach. It happened to be his Pidove. He released it from the pokeball, and it let out a cry of it's own.

"Pidove, use gust!" Black called out to the bird. It cried out again and flapped it's wings very forcefully, sending a strong gust of wind at the Patrat. It slowed down quite a bit, but kept coming. Black growled slightly in frustration.

"Use gust again!" he called out once more, and the Pidove did as ordered. This time, the gust of wind knocked the Patrat back. Black reached into his pack and pulled out an empty pokeball. He smirked and tossed the ball at the Patrat while it was weak. The ball shook back and forth as it resisted, but it eventually stopped. He brought up Pidove's pokeball, pointing it all him.

"Pidove, return. You did good." he said as he smiled at his Pokemon before a red beam came out of the ball and withdrew the little bird. He walked over, picking up the pokeball with the Patrat in it. He looked at it for a moment before letting the Patrat out. He leaned down, looking the beaver-like creature in the eye as he reached into his pack again. He pulled out a bottled potion and carefully sprayed some onto the small animals injuries from being knocked back. He smiled at it.

"There. I bet that feels better, doesn't it?" he said with a smile as he returned the potion to his pack and pulled out a small tin of Pokemon food. He pulled out a few pieces of the food and put it in front of the Patrat. It happily ate. Black returned the tin of food to his pack and stood. Once the Patrat had finished eating, he held the pokeball out, open, giving the small creature an opportunity to get back in. It stared up at him for a moment before returning to the ball. Black smiled and closed the pokeball. He marveled for a moment at the technology; a tiny little ball that could comfortably hold even the largest of creatures. He wondered how it worked. He gently squeezed the pokeball and it shrunk down further. With that, he put it along with his other Pokemon.
