As he approached, the moonlight shed light onto the balcony on which the vampire and human stood. It was grand, extravagant with intricate designs carefully set into its banistersā¦ it was rather sickening, the luxury vampires lived in while hybrids scrambled for survival. Farren could see the vampire more clearly now, and the displeasure was obvious on the white-haired figureās face. The dark-haired hybrid scowled as well, already aggravated by this strange and stately vampire. Farren didnāt like how the vampire seemed so used to standing above others.
He then noticed the human and briefly met eyes with the girl... slight and so obviously frail. Why was she looking at him so intently? Surely a mere human wasnāt so perceptive as to realize his true natureā¦? His gaze flickered down to her hand, pressed against the vein of her neckā¦ how pleasant would it be to, like a vampire, drink the warm blood of the living day after day? Feeding when hungry and out of want instead of necessity? If all went well, he would soon know.
The vampire finally acknowledged them, albeit, with a single word. Farren eyed Eclipse warily as she stepped forward. āI am Hailey. This is Scott,ā she said. A wave of irritation washed over the hybrid leader, as he forced himself to keep his composure, jaw rigid. He glowered at the warrior from the corner of his eye as she continued rambling ā her intention werenāt harm, he was sure... butā¦
āNow, donāt get ahead of yourselves,ā the vampire said ā Farren could almost see the smile on his face, āFirstly, why should I trust someone who uses false names?ā Clearly, he shouldnāt. Farrenās irritation towards Eclipse simply grew tenfold. Why on earth she had to go and make things more complicated, he couldnāt fathom. Harmless intentions or not, it did not change the intense aggravation he felt.
As the vampire closed his little speech, a strange expression passed his face as he hooked an arm around the humanās waist. Farren scowled slightly ā if the vampire was so possessive, taking the bonded human could beā¦ more troublesome than it was worth. However, it was far too early in the plan to decide on anything, so he simply shook his head. āDraven,ā he stated. Eclipse had the right idea in hiding their true identities, but at the very least it could have been one the vampire could believeā¦ although, in truth, the only title he enjoyed was his own true name.
āYour pity is unnecessary. I am Draven. This one truly is called Hailey, and we have another lurking in the forest,ā he said evenly, gesturing back to the shadows of the trees. āOur homes were destroyed by hybrids, and we come seeking temporary arrangements.ā The lies flowed smoothly from Farrenās mouth ā he had gone over it many times beforehand, after all. He had been planning this event for quite some time now. Finally it seemed he would put it in motion.
However, this vampire wanted payment? Quite petty wasnāt he, with most vampires being so hospitable towards their own kindā¦ āAs for payment, we have nothing to offer.ā Hybrids werenāt like the vampires, living in luxury and wealth. They had little on their persons they could spare. āPerhaps once our estates have beenā¦ reconstructed, we will be able to properly express our gratitude.ā
Yes, the hybrids would surely show the extent of their gratitude when they take a certain human off the vampireās handsā¦
