Alice looked up at the sound of footsteps on the stairs. Finally! Maybe someone was coming to let her out!

"About time too!" Alice said angrily. "You can't just leave me here, you-"

She was cut off by the captain. He sighed, ruffling his hair. There was something strangely familiar about that gesture, but she couldn't place her finger on it. Pulling up a stool, he laid his weapons out behind him and sighed again, meeting her eye.

"I remember the first time John, your father, brought me in. It was pouring, like a ocean on land. I was living in a alley, someone left a big wooden crate around and I was using it as a roof. He told me that there was no way he could leave me out there, he was going to drag me back home if he had to."

Alice couldn't help but let a small smile creep onto her lips. That was her father, always trying to help out others, much to her mother's utter disgust. There it was again, another flash of memories but she still couldn't work it out. This man obviously knew her father, and presumably her. Alice was sure she knew him but she had no idea where from.

He stood up. "We will keep you here for ransom, you be a good little girl and we'll let you walk around deck. It's been great seeing you again dear. Must go, make sure the royal fleet isn't on our tale yet. If you need anything Mr. Hughes will help you."

"Wait-" Alice said. A whole host of sharp remarks and sarcastic insults raced through her mind, but none would help her now. As much as she hated this man, a question would help her more than an insult. She had a very short temper, but somehow she managed to rein it in to ask this. "You talk like you know me. You seem... Familiar. So who the hell are you?"
