Nova poured her Dalmatian a full bowl of food, she smiled when he came running to her, sticking his head in the bowl and sucking the food down not even bothering to chew.
âSlow down Austin.â She laughed gently.
âLittyâ she heard her brother call her by her nickname and his tone was calm. âYou have a doctor apartment tomorrow.â He said reminding her like he always did.
âDamn it Max, why do you always go and do that.â She frowned leaning against the counter
âBecause Nova, you donât make the appointments yourself and you know how important it is.â He said slightly frustrated with his little sister.
Nova rolled her eyes in reply, she hated the way Max treated her like she was a little girl and that she couldnât do anything for herself, secretly she adored him for it, but sheâd never admit that.
âYou really need a girlfriend Maxie poo.â She teased âAnyways, Iâm headed to Damienâs if you need anything Iâve got my cellphone just give me a call.â She said grabbing her leather jacket. It was a very rainy Saturday in New York, which meant it would be freezing outside.
âNova thatâs not going to keep you warm!â Max called after her
âGuess thatâs my problem then, hu big brother.â She smirked as she slammed the front door behind her and pulled the hood of her sweater that she wore almost every day in the winter over her head and then quickly she pulled her leather jacket over her arms and started her long walk in the freezing rain to her boyfriendâs apartment and with any luck Chad would be there.
The rain was freeing and the wind made it ten times cold, but for some odd reason, she didnât mind it at all. She took the short cut through the park. She would have taken the longer way like normal, but it was raining and she knew deep down this kind of weather could cause a certain illness to come back, in fact everything and anything could cause it to come back, thatâs probably the main reason she didnât worry too much about it. She figured if she was going to die then it was going to happen and there was nothing stopping it.
She pulled the key to her boyfriendâs apartment out of her pocket and unlocked the door going inside. The lights were off and it didnât seem as though he was home.
âAnthony?â She called out but no answer came.
She had been with him for a year and although her was about five years older than her, her father and brother both liked him, but they didnât know what he did for a living. Nova stayed with him a lot and he knew her better than anyone, but he didnât know about the cancer of her burning habit. She stripped out of her socking cloths and threw them into the dryer. Nobody was there, she figured she was safe, she was safe for the moment at least. She grabbed a blanket and cuddled up under it on the coach as she started to doze off.
