Medwin rolled down a window,or so it seemed when the sharp cold air blew on my face.
"No,Alec.No,listen to me!" I turned to Medwin."Go faster! I don't care what you do,just do it!"
I sank my nails into his skin,hoping the pain would rouse him.I wanted to kiss him,but I was afraid he wouldn't be able to breathe if I did."You can't leave me.You must stay here,with me.I can't...I can't deal with all this.I can't deal with my own self,my nightmares.I wake up screaming and you're the only thing keeping them away.Don't become one of them.I won't say 'I love you'.I'm not saying goodbye."



"Neither am I." The cold air made my wounds sting, but it was better. Easier to stay awake. Easier to keep my mind clear, to stop halting my sentences. Easier to see how terrified Thalia was, and to see her own injuries. "I have no plans to leave just yet." My half hearted laugh turned into a painful cough. "I'm really okay, Thalia. I've survived worse. So have you." I stroked the side of her face, avoiding a particularly nasty gash over her right eyebrow.

I was sitting at my desk, reading over the debate I had prepared for tomorrow. Some moronic motion, but I was still not going to lose. I reread it yet again, looking for weak words or phrases I could replace. I found out last week that Mother got all the results of my debates not just my exams. Thankfully, I won them all but she emailed me a short message telling me that my points weren't high enough, and what to watch out for. It would have been encouraging. Except the last line simply said 'Not pleased that you're only at this level yet. Your sister was much higher at a younger age. Mother.'
I shook my head, and concentrated again on my debate. I had timed it, and made sure there was time for rebuttals. Besides that, if I was under time, I had some extra points on flash cards. I half memorized it, so I would be speaking rather than reading. I had done everything I normally did, but with more effort. I had been revising this ridiculous debate over two hours now. How was I to sound compelling about my opinions on obesity in America? Had it been something on politics on the other hand...
