Nyla sat in her padded room, that had become more like a prison. It was torture staring at the same, bright white padded walls day in and day out. Sleeping was early impossible in the bright white room, not to mention how bad her insomnia had gotten. She was lucky if she slept for more then and hour every other day.
Her medication, plus her lack of sleep had turned her into nothing short of a zombie. She laid flat on her back, looking up at the boring white of her ceiling, spacing out. She was too exhausted to slip into her world, but too scared to let herself fall asleep, because she didn’t want to face her nightmares.
She sighed as her eyes grew heavier, but she fought off sleep, she knew she should just give in, but she was too stubborn. She heard voices outside her electric security code, locked door. The voices were too low to make out what they were saying, but they were definitely arguing.
She smirked, she knew they were fighting over who would have to come into her room and deal with her. She was having her monthly mental evaluation and she was apparently meeting her new therapist. Finally a soft knock at her door brought her from her thoughts, before one of the younger male nurses, pooped his head in, before walking all the way into the room, closing the door behind him.
She didn’t miss the anxious look in his eyes or the way his hands shook as he wrote down a few notes on his clipboard. She rolled her eyes as she sat up, pulling her knees to her chest, keeping her piercing blue eyes on him.
“Why don’t you just write down the answers for me.” She smirked wickedly, her voice raspy “You and I both know I’m crazy.” She whispered darkly.
He took a breath, shaking his head as he collected himself. “I…I have to evaluate you.” He said in a shaky voice.
“I see dead people, I’d love to rip your beautiful beating heart from your chest, and yes…I do want to kill myself.” She said flashing him her scared wrists, with an eerie smirk. “Now, put the straight jacket on me and take me to talk about my feelings.” She said holding his eyes and he nodded nervously as he slipped back out of the room.
Once the door clicked shut behind the nurse, Nyla sighed. If they really knew why she acted the way she did, maybe people wouldn’t be so scared of her. She closed her eyes for a long moment, trying to clear her head.
“Good going Nyla…scared the shit out of that poor guy.” His voice made her smirk and she opened her eyes to see Dodger leaning coolly against the door. “Maybe you should give this new guy a chance.” He shrugged “Not freak him out.” He smirked.
“No.” she said plainly “He’ll be just like the rest of them.” She said running her fingers through her hair. “The sooner he gives up, the better.” She shrugged.
