With the rising greed of the Ukhm empire, and their quick take over of large portions of their continent, they are now faced with an issue. Where to acquire such resources to afford the life style of their people. The solution seemed simple enough, sail to new continents, establish trade posts, and trade with undiscovered civilizations. One of the first of these posts would futurely be known as Akernum.

But, as the trade post at the coast of this newly found continent slowly grew, so did the ambition of its people. Merchants and people from all places would flock to it to sell their goods, and say goodbye to their loved ones before they sailed to another port, waving to the glorious ships of the Ukhm empire. The chief steward of this wealthy trade post, which had come to this place with nothing would soon be the one naming it, in agreeance with its population, which adored the man. But not all would be well forever.

As Akernum made a name for itself, and tales of its slowly accumulating riches spread through the lands, some looked at them with envy. Raiders of different species, some flying banners others just looterd, started to take down caravans, and some of the more ambitious attacking the post itself. The attacks on the caravans hurt Akernum's finances, and although none were successful in attacks at the post, the number of men supplied by the empire grew short, and Akernum would have to find its own way. And so it did.

Soon, more than just tales of riches came to the ears of the many people of the continent, a new rumor had popped up, one not so true, but cleverly planted. People soon began to speak of the supposed growing military of Akernum, rumors spoke of them creating armies of nothing more than sellsword, mercenaries, cut throats! Men and women who had seen battle, and knew how to defend themselves. But this quickly stopped being but a rumor and became reality, as mercenaries looking for a little gold, themselves flocked to Akernum, many which were employeed. The rumors had lowered the number of raids due to fear, but now Akernum truly had of what they had spoken.

With the passing of over half a century, the first chief steward had succumb to his own humanity. He had done much for the growing town. He had planned it out, created trade, and defended it against their enemies. Who would follow him? Why, another from the empire, of course! Oh, but surely not! Akernum would not take this stranger as their leader, they had become their own town, their own people, with their own traditions. The empire being concerned with much more at the time than the trading post turned town agreed to this, not wanting to trouble themselves, as long as it brought them their gold.

The people were joyed with this! But sadly, they did not know what to do next. So now they could choose their leader, but how would they? Unfamiliar with this, Akernum took to imperial tradition, and simply named the first born of the steward. A fine lass, learned much with her father and was proud of him, but not the best when it came to making tough decisions. Her solution for this? Advisors! Only ten years after her rule had started, she had created a council of those who were known as the best for each of the desired traits ask by the new chief steward.

Not much would happen in the shorter rule of this chief steward. Things had been peaceful. The town was quickly growing in population, having become a livily city! The last steward had created a council of advisors, and made a few improvements, here-and-there. Trade was at an all time high, as connections continued to be made, and soon, with the downfall of the empire, Akernum was its own state.

It would only be 500 years after the fall of the empire that Akernum would enter a new point in history! Trade was blooming, as it had been for most of its time. The mercenaries hired by the several guilds of Akernum, and the state itself, were no longer admitted just by signing up. They would need to demonstrate prowess in combat, and were taught organization. The city had erected several walls, as the city slowly grew. Everytime Akernum was able to develop the infrastructure and state of those who lived outside of their last wall, a new wall would be built, and these people would be recognized as citizens of Akernum. These large walls were mostly built out of professionally carved stone, carved in Akernum, and bought from trusted outsiders. They became rich with this, and continue to, while Akernum admired its currently five walls.

But, much would change, as the richest families of Akernum, those in charge of seperate guilds, would take over. The monarchy had become obsolete, it no longer served the people of Akernum, only itself. These families, the main source of income of Akernum, wanted a new role, a bigger role in history. And as they entered the king's halls, with their soldiers, a lot of which were the king's soldiers, asked him to step down. The king may have adored his position, but he prefered his life over it. And so he stepped down. The guild-leading families, knowing that the king was still a symbol of Akernum, took care of him until the end of his days.

Now, with a newly divised political system, made in a way that would both fit the Akerinium ways, and would aid them, would lead the state to a new golden age.
