Lucretia tightened her grip on Bellamy's hand at the mention of his curse. She wished he didn't have such a burden. Then, he was only a child determined to help his mother. Now... She glanced at him. "Yes, sir. Something great is approaching. I believe it might be the opportunity we have been waiting for," she responded in the quiet polite tone she always seemed to have. She watched the other passengers shuffle in and was surprised by how small the group was. Her heart sank. An army of children. How many of them would die? Her grip on Bellamy's hand tightened more. "My Lord, you need to promise me you'll stay safe. Your plans are much too important for you to leave this world behind."
She wanted. No, she needed him to promise her. In comparison to his life, hers was useless. Nothing more than a stepping stone for the greater good of the world. She finally turned to look at him, violet eyes dancing with curiosity and hope. She didn't take her gaze off of him for a second. There was too much riding on this simple promise.
The train lurched forward with a loud and mighty growl that gave Lucretia goosebumps. She didn't like machines. They were too empty and impossible to read. Even now, she could hear the thrum of hearts beating around her, including Bellamy's. A soft, steady beat that meant he was alive and healthy. For now, he was still here.
