Anna had been restless for the entire ride out to the fort, quietly reciting prayers to herself as she tried to rein in her excitement. She would certainly not admit it, but she loved these final moments, where the sinners were cornered in their nests, ready to blindly lash out before they would inevitably be put down.

Finally, they reached the point where they had to dismount, and Anna grinned to herself as they approached the rest of the way on foot. They were close now, so close to bringing justice down upon them all. She would be sure to leave one alive, though. After the rest were dead and the children rescued, they would have all the time in the world to pry the truth from the last sinner among them.

But Anna forced herself to focus on the present as she and Horatio crept up to the edge of the fort. Only two sentries, but still more than enough to raise an alarm. She drew one of the small throwing knives from her belt as she whispered back to Horatio. "We only need to draw them closer and strike quickly." Glancing down, Anna kicked a rock across the ground. The noise would be enough to raise their curiosity, but not their suspicion if they only presumed that it was a coyote or some other beast. At least, that was all Anna could pray for. She crouched down, waiting to lunge forward as soon as the guards had stepped around the corner.
