Despite that, Jo still looked at her with both a quizzical and slightly anxious frown. “What? What did I do?”
“You were flirting with Eden Storm.”
The nervousness in Jo’s shoulders relaxed. “You’re still going on about that?!” She let out a quiet chuckle, but quickly cut herself short to say, “And it wasn’t flirting! I told you that. That was the first time I’d ever even spoken to her.”
Kat scoffed once more before bumping her shoulder against Jo’s. “It was absolutely flirting. Not to mention, your face was 50 shades of red, hun.” She snickered and cast a glance in the other girl’s direction.
Jo was silent for a few seconds, staring at the ground as they walked. “... Well, can you blame me? She’s fucking gorgeous.” This made Kat burst out laughing; she even had to stop a moment to clutch her stomach.
“You are so gay.” Jo only rolled her eyes in response. “I agree with you, though; she is pretty and I’ll give you that. But that doesn’t change the fact that she’s always getting both herself and everyone around her in trouble. Like, I heard she even went to juvie.”
“Do you know that for sure?”
“Well, I heard Kara say-”
“That means it’s just a rumor, so shush. Why does it even matter anyways? She can still be a good person; she just might have made some bad choices in her life.”
“A bad choice is garlic before a date. The things she’s done are just downright… terrible. I heard the last girl she dated-”
Jo put up a hand to silence Kat mid-sentence. “I don’t need you poisoning my mind with rumors, alright? Gossip does nothing but make everyone look bad.” Kat huffed under her breath, but her happiness returned as fast as it left.
The two pushed through some doors and entered the courtyard where many students had assembled with their friends. A scan of the courtyard led Jo to finding her target: Eden. She, of course, was going entirely against what Kat was saying to her. Jo had taken too much interest in the blonde; she wanted to know if all of these rumors were real. And what better way to get the answers than to go right to the source?
She watched Eden and her friends, which, in hindsight, was rather creepy. Jo just needed to find a way to approach them and casually enter their conversation. She heard the word “trashketball”, which is something she’d regrettably never heard of. But through both context clues and the fact that Jo isn’t an idiot, she was able to figure out what they were talking about. Now she just needed something to throw. She shuffled through their bag; meanwhile, Kat was just watching her with her eyes rolling. Out she pulled her almost empty water bottle, which she swiftly chugged the remaining liquid inside. With a deep breath, she crushed the bottle in one hand and sauntered over to the two of them.
Once she was a few feet behind them, she tossed the crumpled garbage from hand to hand. “Court shot!” Jo hopped in place as she tossed the water bottle into the trash; it rolled along the rim before falling inside. “Nice, three points for me.” Jo smiled at the two girls triumphantly before acting as if she had just noticed who they were. “Oh, hey, Eden. What’s up?” Smooth, Josette, smooth.
