Bertoldo couldn't bring himself to step away, nor to look her in the eye in that moment. He shook his head a little, and exhaled deeply. He didn't trust himself, her blood was still taking effect and he could feel it fuelling his emotions and heightening them. He couldn't say with any certainty that he wouldn't overstep his boundaries, or at least try to, if he was face-to-face with her. This was a very messy, very unnecessary situation they'd gotten themselves into, taking it a step further wouldn't bode well for either of them.
Once his breathing reached a normal pace and the blood settled a little, Bertoldo knew he couldn't keep her waiting much longer, especially since he still had her pinned to the wall. He shifted only slightly, enough that he could look down at her. This, he soon came to realise, had been a grave mistake on his part. Her hand moved up and cupped his cheek; he felt his breath hitch in his throat suddenly, and without thinking removed his hand from her other wrist, freeing her arm.
Then, all of a sudden, she'd done the one thing he was trying desperately not to. Regardless, had she not caught him a little off guard, he might have moved to meet her. As it was, she pressed her lips to his and he stood stunned for a few seconds, though it felt like an eternity, before he relaxed a little and was soon enough kissing her back. It was unlike before, not rushed and desperate. He felt himself backing away a little, without breaking the kiss, and was uncharacteristically gentle when pulling her forward to meet him. For whatever reason it didn't feel right to have her pinned in place. He'd been treating her like she was his meal, but that wasn't the case anymore.
By this point he had one arm draped around her waist, while the other was raised, fingers working through her hair before the hand settled at the back of her head. He may have been acting considerately before but it was in his nature to maintain some small semblance of control.
He could feel himself wanting to deepen the kiss, and even in this state he was wary of doing so. Instead he broke the kiss, and with his eyes still closed her pressed his forehead against hers. "We shouldn't..." he murmured, although in truth he didn't exactly sound sure of himself. As he spoke, the arm that had been raised was now also around her waist.
